I have had this problem 4 times now and its becoming more regular. It is an intermittent problem, because it usually starts working again in the afternoon.
Was a small leak in one of my rear lights... Every time the water reached the bulb it shorter out my instrument cluster. when the water slowly drained out and the electrics dried the instrument cluster worked again. However I had that many suggestions from people that I think there are many things that can cause the same problem
Its a fuse, F11 i think its 5 AMPS, its blown - side of drivers side dashboard pull the panel off,its the fuse that says instrument cluster, check it out. Hope it helps and fixes your car - shabba !
I’m having the same issue I hate to say I have tried the taillight yet but even then it won’t turn on there’s no leak I’ve found I’ve done the fuses which ima going to go over again but it still won’t work I replaced the entire instrument cluster and it still won’t work it’s getting power however I know because when you click the instrument cluster it still does the bottom 2 miles and time I need help desperately I know this video is old but it’s the only one
Hi Chris I've got exact same problem on 2009 A3. I've got a leak back near the n/side rear tailight inside the boot. Can't find where it's coming in. Doing me head in. Which rear light was your leaking please? & how did you fix it. I'd really appreciate your help to resolve this leak. Kind Regards Matt.
Salut, Georgian. O seara buna
Hi, mine was dead on dash no lights. I tried all fuses and battery etc. inside and outside the car. although the engine turned over it would not stsrt! After reading comments again I went back out to car and took out all fuses from driver side checking them. After putting them back i thought i try it and wheheyyy, all the dash came alive and the car started normally! I did note that on centre panel it told me that the tail gate or boot lid was not closed properly? also noticed the boot floor well had water in it sooooooooo, i may have caught the fob and unlocked the boot causing water to get in? who knows. will clean it all out tomoz and see how long this lasts.. But there has been no rain and a bit warm today so should have dried out!
I have this problem with my Audi today , still need to see why doesn't start . The water in the boot cou come from the back wiper pipe , the connections are not good and leak water inside the boot and all over the sensors !
If you have this problem or similar on a3/tt/s3 2005 onwards. it is your clock cluster, (instrument panel) see www.ecutesting.com . Input your car make n model. They fixed mine for £225. Common problems Total loss of clocks n screens, warning lights staying on, car won’t start.
Mine (in the video) was a leak in my rear light. When the water got high enough to touch the bulb, it shorted the instrument cluster. Fixed the leak, which fixed the problem. That was after sending the cluster to BBA Reman who said the instrument cluster was fine.

i have same problem ,did you need to have the repaired cluster re coded to your car ? or was it simple plug and play ? thanks
Plug and play mate, they sent it back plugged it straight in worked first time. There’s loads of info on the fault on there website.
thanks for the reply mate will give it ago, hopefully its as straight forward as yours was
