Is Reading FC about to be saved?

  • The deal has to cross the goal line, but there might be light at the end of a long, dark tunnel for Reading FC fans.
    We now know the name of the "North American consortium" that Reading officials mentioned might go into exclusive negotiations with the club. But there's little known about Genevra Associates…or the two other bids on the table for Reading.

      I think Newcastle fans might have a dissenting view on that. Besides, Ashley seems more interested in footy real estate more than owning a club.

      ---Which smacks of the franchise model of business--e.g., McDonalds, Starbucks, et cetera--that makes its money off of real estate and licensing, not the product of interest itself.

      It's quite smart, actually.
      Own a football club: pay players, staff, travel while hoping for enough fans/sponsors to at least break even
      Own a football stadium: host events and lease the stadium to said football clubs with less overhead and an asset that (in theory) appreciates in value.
      Football clubs can die. Land is forever lol
