I start to tear at the part when the little girl gets on her bike and she waved goodbye. To me I interpret it as Katy saying goodbye to her childhood and accepting the fact that she’s an adult now.
She had to revisit her childhood to face her past and demons. That’s what she was releasing, as she has now healed by facing it. The entire video is a representation of the trauma she’s faced through men, media, etc... showing how she’s been weak and stumbled along the way, but is finally okay.

I didn’t understand this video as a kid. Now that I’m all grown up, I think the little girl represents her inner child or her child self and how she found her and finally protecting her from everything she learned growing up. She didn’t need anyone to protect or save her because she knew all along it will always you helping and healing yourself and your inner child. There’s one scene where the child protected her, that’s probably bcus Katy gained her motivation and strength to face life all over again because she is being reminded that her child self isn’t ready to give up. Butterfly exchange in the end probably represents how she finally made it and to look where she is now, her inner child telling her that it’s all real and not a dream of how much she has achieved in life and healed her child self ❤️
