TARP CAMPING IN A GIANT STORM ON A PUBLIC BEACH | FAIL | DON'T TRY THIS

Hey, everyone! In today's wild adventure, we're taking tarp camping to a whole new level. Join me as I attempt to camp on a public beach during a giant storm, and let's just say... it doesn't go quite as planned.
Picture this: I thought it would be a great idea to practice camping in some seriously severe weather, so I set out on this extreme adventure. My plan? To set up camp on the beach using a trusty tarpaulin, cook up a nice vegetable soup, and just soak in the stormy vibes. Sounds fun, right?
Well, things got... interesting. I managed to set up the tarp using whatever I could find around me, which made for a pretty questionable camp. But hey, that's part of the experience, right? Next, I whipped up a cozy meal, trying my best to cook under less-than-ideal circumstances.
Now, here comes the real challenge: starting a fire. I tried not once, but twice, to get a fire going using my ferro rod. Turns out, the rain and wind weren't exactly on my side. But hey, we keep trying! Eventually, I threw in the towel on the fire, and it was time to hit the hay. Little did I know that the wind would go from intense to absolutely crazy!
The storm decided to turn it up a notch, and the wind was howling like a pack of wolves. My tarp didn't stand a chance against the gusts, and soon enough, it was flying everywhere but where it should be-anchored in the sand. This whole situation was turning into an epic fail!
As the storm raged on, I knew it was time to call it quits. The beach was not where I wanted to be during this wild weather. So, I packed up and headed out, a little defeated but mostly just laughing at the whole situation.
Moral of the story? Tarp camping in a giant storm on a public beach might not be the best idea, but it sure makes for an unforgettable experience! Thanks for watching my fails and adventures. Cheers bru! Just notching up some experience, its the only way I learn is by jumping into the deep end first. Look like a fool and then make corrections as you go. I do however gave Engganno Island in Sumatra on my radar... looks truly wild there. Thanks for the support mate!

Glad you had a wild time mate! Luckily on the SE coast of Australia the only bad things are ticks, leeches and the odd snake. There are hardly any shark attacks too which is awesome! The east coast of Aus starts getting nasty (animal wise) from Port Macquarie North to Cairns. Thats where the sharks frolic and in the warmer climates you get salt water crocs. I'd be pretty scared in I was confronted by an angry black bear mate 😬😬😬

Can’t say your stuff is boring, that’s for sure. That wood looked nice and dry. Need to start with “pencil lead” width branches then “pencil” width then thicker etc, etc. That tarp was crazy. You could dig a pit to sleep in and your tarp could have a lower profile. 🙏👍

Cheers Jamie! I will try again next storm , but the problem is the wind direction change. Because beach is exposed to all directions, I would need to learn how to reset to new wind... almost like sailing lol! also want to test out a bivvy in extreme storm. In Australia it's not difficult to light a fire, but that was the first time trying it in wet conditions, so I need to really pay attention to prep next time.

man that was intense. good job with the pitch, even though you bailed it held up surprisingly well in wind like that, tarps just turn into sails in those kind of conditions

Yeah. One of the main things is picking your spot.
Sand is no good for stakes - they'll pull right out.
Also - you had no natural protection from any direction.
We liked to camp inside the former cinder block foundation of a house. No house at all - just the foundation - but - that kept us out of the wind ... depending. Even then - I had wind blowing right through the zipper on my sleeping bag. Gave up on that and got in the car.
In the Desert - we'd make walls of rocks to break the wind.
The problem with a pit - is that will get you out of the wind but the rain will fill it up.
Picking a good spot takes time and once we found one - we'd camp in the very same spot each time.
    .

      @rangatrips  Před 21 dnem

Bob thank you for your thoughtful insightful comment! I will do a camp in a foundation soon, sounds like you used to get out into the thick of it! Didn't realise wind would be a major problem in a desert, camping in a desert is definitely on my to do list! All the best Bob!

As far as the fire pit below the surface of the beach, you need to make another pit down a ways from it and connect the two via a tunnel, that way oxygen can get to the fire and keep it going. 👌
