    Albuquerque, abbreviated as ABQ, is the most populous city in the U.S. state of New Mexico.The city's nicknames are The Duke City and Burque, both of which reference its 1706 founding by Nuevo México governor Francisco Cuervo y Valdés as La Villa de Alburquerque. Named in honor of then Viceroy the 10th Duke of Alburquerque, the Villa was an outpost on El Camino Real for the Tiquex and Hispano towns in the area (such as Barelas, Corrales, Isleta Pueblo, Los Ranchos, and Sandia Pueblo). Since the city's founding it has continued to be included on travel and trade routes including Santa Fe Railway (ATSF), Route 66, Interstate 25, Interstate 40, and the Albuquerque International Sunport.

    • @Lo-and-Jaq
      @Lo-and-Jaq Před 3 lety +6

      @@baloochness I very much enjoyed my time studying architecture at the University of New Mexico. I minored in sustainability and took classes at the honors college as well. I was able to complete my degree in 4 years and given scholarships to make me be able to afford the tuition. I can only speak to my experience in those realms, I am from New Mexico and lived off campus working and paying rent - I worked 2 jobs throughout most of my education to make ends meet - but cost of living is reasonable in Albuquerque. I was able to network and make professional connections in undergrad that led to my current employment in my field. I am personally not one for sports - but we have a great basketball team and a few big football games people enjoy. There is also a place on campus you can rent camping supplies to enjoy the beautiful nature in New Mexico. There are a lot of yearly events that hopefully will resume now that the pandemic is winding down - my favorite was the sustainability expo and a lot of people like "Fiestas" a yearly free concert on campus. All in all UNM was a great and affordable choice for my education. There is an extremely diverse student body and faculty at UNM. There is also a lot of opportunity for your son to find impactful work in New Mexico. I couldn't forget to mention the food is also amazing if you like some heat! Remind him to not leave any valuables visible in his car though - and maybe buy a wheel lock. We are high in vehicular theft and break-ins. The University and Nob Hill areas are pretty safe most of the time, just be aware and you will be fine. All in all there is nowhere in the US quite like New Mexico - I am proud to call it home.

      It's true that we don't have very many tall buildings in Albuquerque. The tallest one is only 22 stories. But that isn't by statute. It's just what builders have chosen to do. There are many many buildings over two stories, and you can paint them any color you want. There are no color restrictions. I can't imagine where you got that information. For someone looking at this video who is not familiar with NM, they would not know where or what they're looking at. It would be nice if you would explain or point out where you are. Anyone could run a video while they're driving, but it takes more effort to speak while the video is running.

    I've lived in ABQ for 4 years, visited and wanted to live here for over 30 years. I found this difficult to watch as it is blurry. Most of the drive is not in downtown. I noticed someone commented on not seeing the homeless, but I saw some in front of the Kimo Theater downtown. Another comment said the city looked dead....it's Covid time, folks. We have strict restrictions that have worked. Have seen a video on downtown San Francisco and it looks the same...no one there right now.

      Thanks for the support! Sorry for the blurriness that you have experienced, have you tried to check if the video quality is at 4K? Maybe that will show better picture quality.

    I'm not sure what time of day you videoed this, but the homeless, crazies and drug addicts are much, much more prominent that what I see here! The city is literally out of control in terms of crime and street drug addiction, w/ a police force that is known for shooting first and asking questions later. They've been under a Federal Judicial Order to stop that for a looooong time. Hands down the most dangerous city I ever lived in. They actually had to put live cameras on the buses that go directly to the police because of all the assaults that occured on them.
    People say how beautiful it is....Abq is brown, and only the sunsets liven it up. A good art scene and the green chili is good too, but believe me, its not worth it to live in that dump. You can get a green chili cheeseburger even in Arkansas now. Just look at other Abq youtube videos here, that's the real Abq.
