Because it's not a piece of jewelry that can be worn. We have no reason as the average person to just have a diamond alone. A piece of jewelry can be worn and shown, that's why diamonds are so expensive because it can be consumed and said "look what I got" look what my husband got me". Most people are consumers who want to show everyone else what they consumed ,so nobody wants something they can just place in a safe and forget about. People like to show off something with material value and that material value is cash
I think Peter should be going with this. I would love to hear more facts and knowledge behind the business of diamonds, gems and jewelry. There's very few people regularly talking about it ...
