Also, adding to Kristins wonderful PSA: Nobody will even notice that you sized up! Nobody cares whether you wear a size 16 or 18 or whatever. You know what people DO notice? When your clothes are not fitting correctly, and when you don't look comfortable in it. Just wear the size that fits you, no matter the size on the tag. Cut the tag out if you want to!

"Be a big canvas" is the best thing from this video in my opinion. I feel like it not only encapsulates the whole point of fashion being a wearable work of art but also that you have the right to create what you want to wear. I love this video and even if it was just what you think are general opinions you were very thoughtful and well spoken.

I really wish this channel (and plus size CZcams content in general) had been around when I was in middle school and high school. Having been large my whole life, I assumed there was no point in trying to be fashionable or look good when I was younger because society, media, and all the people around me said that fat=ugly and terrible. It wasn't until I hit 17 that I started exploring my own sense of style, and that was only because my cousin gave me some of her old clothes. It took until ny last year in university to really understand that I could wear more than oversized sweaters and XL t-shirts.
You're doing some great work for some young person's self esteem right now, Kristin, and both past and present me thank you for it.

For the skirt question: if you're having trouble with a big butt pulling the skirt up more in the back so the length is uneven and/or you have exposure problems, Shiny By Nature has designed a skirt that's longer in the back to accommodate that exact issue. Kristins monologue about sizing up in pants really touched me 😭 I’ve just started realizing I probably need a size 16 instead of 14 and it’s only one size but I feels like a insurmountable mountain to me and like once I hit this point there’s no returning, which of course isn’t true but that’s what it feels like. @@charliev4156 Same! But sadly, my major issue isn't even leg (or arm) length in clothes, it's that...erm...I'm not sure how to explain this? But it's like the front half of me needs a size 7 panty, but the back half needs a size 9 or 10, if that makes sense? So having clothes that fit my booty AND my front area is...difficult.
I've taken to wearing maxi skirts lately because I can't be bothered, but sometimes I wanna wear pants/shorts & dont wanna have to wear an oversized shirt to cover the weirdness of my clothing in the crotchal region, dang it!!

I'm a size 26 in pants which is like the last frontier in most plus size pants, after 26 it gets a lot harder to find pants. I put on 20 kilos over lock down and suddenly all my pants were too tight, so I accepted it was time to size up and it was so nice to not feel squashed into my pants! I've since lost the weight I put on during lock down but still prefer the looser size!

That's totally f'd up & I'm wicked sorry you experienced that! After pregnancy, I discovered a LOT of tops designed for pregnant ppl were PERFECT for me, cuz they tend to have more chest room without increasing the band size. Before I found my most recent 'shelf tank tops' (they have wide straps! they have enough chest room! they are soft & thick without being too hot! they're cotton!), I exclusively wore nursing tanks at home, so I had a bit of chest support AND my breasts weren't resting on my chest & causing excessive underboob sweat.
(& they allow me to wear my reusable bra liners, which have been ANOTHER game changer for me!) I found many of the 'sleep bras' intended for nursing were very comfy sleep bras even when I was done nursing, haha. Especially the ones that pulled to the side (vs the ones you unclip).

The numbers are arbitrary. I know it sucks to have to size up but also your body isn't wrong the clothes are wrong for you. I am a UK 18 fairly consistently. Two years ago I needed shorts, I had no shorts and I was going on a sun holiday. I ordered three pairs in two sizes each from a shop that I know I'm an 18 in. I ordered the denim shorts in a 20 as well and the fabric shorts in a 16 just in case. I was a 16 in one pair, an 18 in another pair, and the 20 in the third pair would have had to be at least two sizes bigger to even slightly close on me. So in one shop I was both a 16 and a 24+. In the same body, on the same day, at the same time of day. That is not possible. And it was then that I truly embraced knowing the numbers are meaningless.

If this becomes a series, I'd love a combination of Kristen and Brie giving clothing advice. I'm plus size and recently femme presenting amab non-binary person (specifically I've been abandoning pants for skirts), and I'd love to hear from Brie (if she were willing, totally cool if not) on how she started finding clothes. I'm certainly worried about kind of a similar thing to the having half your butt out but, you know, on the other side.

Going to push back a little on tailored garments. If you research your local dry cleaners, they are often very good tailors at amazing prices and very good results. Mine tailored my wife's suit to a t! and it was 27$!
When you started talking about office clothes, it instantly reminded me of the Disney short "Purl" from Sparkstudios. I need that belted hydrangea caftan!

Thanks for doing a part 2! 🥰 I've recently started pattern mixing, a little color blocking, and found your advice "you don't know what works until you try it" to be spot on. I've noticed the outfits I like best but am most nervous to wear because they're furthest out of my comfort zone are the ones I end up getting the most compliments on when out and about. I kind eased into pattern mixing by pairing printed pants with graphic tees and that's become a go-to style for me lately.

I loved the plus size video though, it made me feel a little better. I gained a lot during Covid-19 lockdown with my binging disorder and have had a hard time accepting and losing the weight. Both have finally started happening. The video helps me feel better with the sizes and clothes I am now in and what I can wear (which is anything). Thank you Kristin for your humor and honesty.💕

Most of this advice really applies at every size! I really appreciate the outfit swaps and the spontaneous DIY project, it was great having visuals to accompany what you were saying. I didn't realize cold shoulder tops were a notorious plus size hide-the-arms thing, as someone who is neither plus sized nor has any arm-related concerns, I always just thought they were super cute (on myself and literally anyone else I've seen them on). It doesn't surprise me that there are plenty of people out there who don't like them, though. It's definitely one of those styles that can give you a gut reaction one way or the other in relation to personal style, even if you don't mind it on other people.

Empire line is something that I wear a lot of. I go for natural fibres as I’m very hot. The other rule is loose top with a more fitted pant or a more fitted top with wide leg pant. So one article of clothing tight and the other loose top and bottom. Simple but it works.

Tailors have been shortening my pants for me since puberty. Hemming jeans isn't a tough challenge, like shrinking a sundress, but most tailors I've been to can do it well enough and having a professional to do that for me is more than worth the price to me, for improving the utility, the lifespan and the look of my pants.

The size up advice is so spot on. It’s such a hard thing to get over but at the end of the day it’s better to wear clothes that fit and you’re comfortable in than have a specific number or X on their label. it’s just something mental to get over. Difficult to process but once you get over it, it’s so freeing

I would LOVE to see kitchen , Jorn and Brie all attempting to alter or tailor old clothes into something new and exciting or even just to create a better fit. I feel like that would be hilarious. It could even be a competition!
A positive about some clothes not fitting correctly (happens on ALL body types!) when I was 20 years old and 450lbs with only 3 babies (5 now😅) and COMPLETELY broke I learned how to tailor myself in order to make the goodwill clothes fit 🤣 I already had experience sewing for growing up poor in the south, you either had to repair it yourself or wear it holey and I’m not talking fashion rips.! I’m talk thigh rub eating through your jeans or splitting your pants from only having one pair. I’m thankful for the knowledge I have now and definitely thing it’s valuable for everyone on a budget to learn this skill. Now I can completely overhaul any clothes for my entire family and have it look professional.
