      I'm not trying to defend or offend anyone but I watched that video and didn't hear or see any indication that Chinese rods were at fault. I'd love to be proven wrong. In fact I'm looking everywhere I can for illustrations of clone piston failures and so far have not found any. Once again I would love to be shown where I missed out.

    Thinking of putting an ALH TDI in my 2010 A5, I have another 2013 quattro car, burnt front end. I was thinking about using the 6 speed manual from it. Just need to work out the math on differential gearing for final drive. Looking to achieve 85 mph at 1800rpm in 6th gear.

    Hey so I actually upgraded to these je pistons/rings and when I did my first re build I had a tiny score on one of the cylinder walls so I decided to go up a size and opted for the 83mm instead of the 82.5. Did all the ring gaps to spec and put everything back together. When I first started driving the car it would consume 1 liter of oil every 2500 kms and over a span of a year it gradually went down to 1 liter every 300kms. I remember you had a video stating don't bore the cylinder walls because it will remove the factory chemical liner. I was wondering if this could of been the route to the oil consumption. I had everything ordered bored and honed through a machine shop. Thanks keep up the great content!

    • @NaptownTuner
      @NaptownTuner  Před 2 lety

      That actually might only be on flex fuel engines but it didn’t say it specifically and all the bores look the same to me. I don’t know why you would have excessive oil consumption after machine shop work and these pistons, maybe it was overbored too much can’t say I’d contact the machine shop first then je and if you do let us know in the comments. At the dealership they only had us slide in new oem pistons no honing

      @@NaptownTuner I sold the car recently. Was just pissed I went to talk to the owner of the machine shop and from what he told me he's been having so many issues with caeb engines. Customers coming back with so many problems he doesn't even want to work on them anymore. I was going to ls swap the car but the support is just not there and a lot of r&d. There was slight pistons movement but even when I pulled the head after the excessive oil consumption the bores seemed completely fine with no scores and tops of the pistons were in good condition along with being clean. I ran compression test and maybe one cylinder was 10 psi off. I ran a leak down and all cylinders were passed in the 90% range. So I rebuilt the head of the engine because I assumed the valve guides were seeping oil and let's just say 7 thousand down the drain and a car that was still burning 300kms of oil. I should have just left the original score and put stock Audi pistons. From what I heard the je piston top design is slightly different and causes problems on these engines but man at this point I had no clue. I would also have to scrub the spark plugs once a week from massive build up of oil. What a nightmare.

    Honestly super creepy how convenient your videos fall into my lap. Any time I have an issue with something, you post a video that’s right in line with what I’m doing haha. But long story long. I have a 2013 a4, that happens to be the CPMA engine that is super unique apparently. I’m looking to rebuild it and don’t want to half ass it, but don’t want to go broke either. I just had the head pressure tested and the shop says he’s 95% sure that head will leak once it’s heated up. He said it looks to have cracks, but it won’t leak for him. So I’m fine with just buying a new head and calling it done. But the question is, so I just go all the way and replace the lower internals too? The engine is already completely out, as I’m trying to take a look at the lower, due to finding flakes in the pan. The other option is just replace the entire thing, but only downfall with that is having to pay for a tune again, as I’m running K04 currently. I looked up the engine this evening and it’s like 6k for the long block. Honestly I’d buy and engine from you if you had one handy, I trust your work more than anybody else’s. Also I have no idea how to DM on here, or if you even can…. Thanks again and I always appreciate all your content!

    Hi Nap. I had a shop rebuild my 2010 2.0TFSI @185kmi. Using JE FSR Pistons 23mm Pin 83mm +.50mm Bore | 9.6:1 CR | Stock Stroke - 92.8mm. 2500mi later, no oil consumption issue. But I can't seem to get away from a low oil pressure warning (Every time it gets about 20mi warm, only at idle) and persistent lean code. I am breaking in with conventional 5w-30, but will change to 0w-40 synthetic. Has Original oil pump, with new pickup/sensors/control valves/PCV/filter retaining post. My questions are: Before I change the pump, Does conventional oil have any impact on oil pressure? And would the JE pistons or overbore have any impact for that lean code? I couldn't help but notice the piston head change from stock. Thanks.

    How about reusing the same original 21mm pistons but use the new updated OEM zig zag/wafer style rings?
    (Part #: 06H198151J)
    Clean the pistons well and install them in there. I purchased new DM pistons from Audi and when I put them next to the old ones I noticed that the height of the oil rings were identical.
    If we can do that, between new pistons and new connecting rods we save close to $2K!
    I’m rebuilding an engine now and I’m going to do that. The old pistons are in great shape but pretty gunked up. I’m going to clean them up, install the new update it rings and give it a try.

      Since the pistons are a wear item I won’t give that option to anyone that’s a do it yourself thing but oem rings cost a stupid amount of money and are priced each, I purchased aftermarket rings from Hastings waffle style and had oil consumption still. Personally I don’t mess with anything but new high quality pistons even for myself anymore

      Oil consumption is not just piston issue. Oil sucked into cylinders from the valve as well if the engine is high mile. If compression and leak down tests are good, should suspect valve guides and seals.

      @@allroaddaily some of these cars are burning 1qu of oil per 200miles and in this particular case I haven’t seen valve seals cause or turbo seals cause a problem yet. Most people that don’t know how problematic these pistons are will replace a turbo and it does nothing

    • @allroaddaily
      @allroaddaily Před 2 lety +1

      @@NaptownTuner yeah mine was burning about a qt per 500mi. It was due to turbo seal and valve stem seals. When it comes to diagnose oil consumption problem, we really have to check all the scenarios and symptoms by testing everything. Smell of exhaust gas, color, smoke, off-throttle braking (engine brake), compression test, leak down test, cylinder wall check, pcv valve, etc. For example, my 2.0t EA888 gen2 burns about a qt per 2500mi after replacing the turbo but that’s when I drive very conservatively. No hard pulls, no engine braking, no downshifting. No smoke after idling for a long time. When I drive in manual mode and use a lot of down shifting and engine braking, oil consumption goes up 10 times faster which explains I still have bad valve seals that let oil into cylinder when vacuum is created at high RPM and 100% of time I can smell oil burning in the exhaust gas and if idle for a minute or two, gray smoke comes out right after I hit the gas. Can’t just solely blame the piston and piston rings/oil rings for oil consumption in my opinion
