Gorgeous patio and pond! Thanks for sharing. We use the same method filling pots to save. Is there a video on how you set up the pond?
That's brilliant. I've seen people fill raised beds that way. Don't know why I never connected the dots before and used that method for containers. Thank-you!
I used to use all kinds of things to fill space in my large containers. I switched to using pool noodles a few years ago and this works for me. I can cut them up in chunks or lay them in spirals or even cut them in half lengthwise to go in my window boxes. At the end of the season, I take them out and put them all in a mesh bag and store them and reuse them.
Always find your videos so pleasant to watch, and great information. Great suggestion on composting in place!
Beautiful! Such a tropical relaxing area. Thank you for the tip on filling the pots. Soil is so expensive.
I would really like to know more about how you overwinter your elephant ear plants in the basement. Would you please do an info video on that.
If you search her channel you may be able to find one. I seem to remember her doing a video about it…
Very nice this patio and pond. Love it! The containers are so original and beautiful.
Oh my Yuliya! You are lookin good Momma! 💚🙏💓🤩
I ❤️❤️❤️your patio and pots!! Great job👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
What a peaceful place to be!
I put a sturdy smaller pot inside the pot, upside down to fill the space
Beautiful! Dog is just chillin in da yard😎
💜🙋♀️💕🌟Oregon. The pond is beautiful. Love your music too!
I recently repotted some large pots that the previous owner had partially filled with small plastic pots to save on potting soil. To my surprise the plastic pots were home to several slugs! I'll refill the bottoms of large pots with compost from now on.
This is one my favorite videos by you. love the colocasia collection.
Yay, thank you!
LOVE your patio with the L shaped pool. Thanks for showing it again. What you do to fill your pots is a great idea! I put big and small rocks in the bottom several inches to keep my big plastic pots from toppling over in the wind.
Your plant combinations are so lovely. How wonderful that you use so many varieties:)
You give me plant envy:(
Thank you!!!
Great idea on mulch in bottom of large pot
As usual, you have such great gardening tips. The pots turned out beautifully. We have similar taste in plants; I have Coffee Cups, Mojito, Streptocarpus (a favorite that I cannot keep alive inside ☹️ or keep the bugs outside from eating the blooms), Colocasia esculenta and torenia. I will have to try some of these lovely plant combos. 💚
What a beautiful area that is to sit and relax, well when you get the chance. Do the giant elephant ears stay a bit smaller in the confined space. I can't help but think about that ginormous beast out in garden, maybe a couple yrs ago.
Beautiful plant combinations! 🪴 I put plastic water bottles in the bottom of my large pots to make them lighter and to use less soil, works great.
Beautiful everything's just beautiful
Excellent information! I'm going to try your method of filling planters!
Your patio is beautiful
Love your videos and your plant taste!!! You are the best!
Thank you 😊☺️
Absolutely beautiful!
Beautiful as well as informative. Thank you.
your pots look so gorgeous!
Excellent! Thank you 🌱💚
Thanks. I did learn something new. Using the vegetation for the bottom of the pots. I has medium size I can do that with. Thanks for that info.
I have started doing this also,I will be saving leaves this fall also !
I love your videos, I learned a lot from you!!!
I have been doing this for over 60 years. I never knew it had a name. My father always used weeds and organic matter to start his cold frames.
Gorgeous 🌸💕🌸
This is so inspiring! Gorgeous
Very informative.👍🏼 Thank you
Excellent video!
This video is so on time. We just moved and are now renting and recreating a new garden oasis for myself. There was a lot of clean up so I said where am I going to put all this plant waste...maybe I will put it in my planters to save on soil...I think I am thinking like a gardener now!👏👏👏
Beautiful
Genius idea! In my woodland gardens there are always plenty of dry-rotted twigs & small branches. This will be a marvelous way to break them up smaller & recycle them. I have run out of places to do this among the shrubs, etc. You always show things that help me in my own gardening experience. Thank you!
Beautiful! The groups of containers really do act as a living wall to lend privacy and a cozy feel and I love the sound of water. So soothing and peaceful.
We filled our 30" tall raised beds with logs, sticks, and whatever weeds and yard debris we could find. Most plants, at least vegetables, only need 8-10 inches, at most. As you said, it's a great way to make beautiful compost that can be used in the garden later, as well as dispose of all those weeds and spent plants. ~ Lisa
Great video! Thx 4 sharing the tips!!! :-)
Love the tips on filling the bottoms of large pots with weeds that will become compost. Potting soil is outrageously expensive. Your designs for the pots are lovely and as a bonus you introduce plants that are new and have unusual foliage. In 8b Central Texas we are in survival mode until temperatures drop below 100 (probably end of September) and we get some rain, which is not even in the long-term forecast. Until fall arrives, we rely on people in more temperate climates to show us their gardens.
ouch, we had days in the 90s with high humidity and I just melted 😬
I love the combinations that you have in those containers, I enjoy adding some of my indoor tropicals to my landscaping also.
Love your patio! Fireplace, pond, furniture, plants, …everything!
Excellent info for pot filling. Wise decision! Thanks, Yuliya. I use pebbles in my tall planters. I see you have the Colocasia teacups. I bought this yr, instead of my Elephant ears. I'm going back to my Statement ears next year!! Miss those beauties. Love all your pots, nice job on the patio and water pond design! Then to top it off, we have Mishka! 🤗❤️
So glad this video came up in my notifications . For some reason I haven't been getting the notifications and just saw that there are at least 5 of your videos I haven't seen! I love your channel and watch them all so am glad you are still making videos and I guess I just need to check instead of relying on the notification. Beautiful patio~ you got me started on elephant ears last year and I added a few new ones this summer!
This was informative, thanks for sharing - potting soil (and everything else these days) is so expensive~ I've always wondered if we could use clumps of grass (that was dug up when creating gardens) in pots like this, do you think the grass would compost down easily? Your containers are beautiful 🙂
Great tip on filling a large container. Patio looks so peaceful with beautiful containers. Thank you!
I too love every elephant ears! So pretty❤️ I only buys large pots now and find I spend more money on soil than plants😂so I also fill them just as you do.
Beautiful, love the patio and pond!
What a great idea for filling large pots! The planters are beautiful and your patio looks like an oasis. Thank you!
Genius! I was one that was putting plastic bottles in the bottom, but my tomatoes started drooping because the roots were just trying to grasp the plastic🤦♀️I had to pull the entire plant out and pour soil into the bottom (after removing the plastic bottles). They were in shock for a few days but bounced back. Now I know what to do for next time! Thank you!!
I am so goi g todo this trick. I have 3 large whiskey barrels on the side of my parents shed. What a great tip.
Thank you so much for this great tip. Everything is beautiful. Enjoy your peaceful spot!!!
Excellent, never thought to add the trimmings and weeds to my pots. We do compost on a regular basis excepts for weeds, but now I know what to do. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
That’s a great idea to fill up large pots. 👏👏👏
Great idea for the filling the pots. Love all the accent plants you chose!
Your patio area is so beautiful. love the different types of elephant ear and begonias. Thank you for the $ saving idea of adding weeds and compost to fill large pots. I am going to start doing this.
As always….another OUTSTANDING video! Thanks for the tip on adding weeds to the bottom of your pots, OMG, why didn’t I know this? I have gone through so much soil over the years! Have a wonderful July! My best, Boston, MA
Beautiful pond beautiful patio
Thank you Yulia, great tip. Patio looks gorgeous, I love the pond 🥰
Always love you’re videos and always always learn something new! Thanks Yulia!!
Beautiful combination of plants!
Always love how you do these containers!
Love this!! Your area and pond is so beautiful!!!
Love all your pots!! So fun and beautiful!!
I always look forward to your videos!!! Your garden is so unique and lovely. The pots look great! I want to try the coffee cups variety but I haven’t gotten around to it. Thanks for the look at your patio room! Have a great day!
Peaceful, informative & I enjoyed it!
So cute! I’d love more details on that fish pond. How many fish…what kind? Where did you get them. How do they survive the winter?
I bought three elephant ear bulbs and not one grew... I must have done so wrong. Hopefully you get a bloom or two on the hydrangea that someone pruned. 😅 I am lucky as we have a dumpster at a sungro plant and they throw away all potting soli bags that have a hole or the print on it was wrong so I get so many bags I give them away!!! Love your space and that pond!!
They’re all so beautiful. I love that streptocarpus. Do you keep it as a houseplant in the winter? Or are they fussy indoors?
Thanks for sharing..,love the variety of plants 😁
As always such great expert advice!
Beautiful 🌞
Very nice! After the deer eat my hydrangea, sometimes I get some mini blooms. Maybe there’s hope for the pruned one. 🤞🏻
Lovely patio area. Could you plz explain in a video how you overwinter your elephant ears in the basement. Do you just place them down there in pots? Do you do anything to them? Thx.
Beautiful!!
lively video
i missed you!!
“I’m not going to name names “. 😅😂🤣 code for HUSBAND?😉
Your patio is a beautiful oasis, love 💕 the begonias and elephant ears, great tip on saving money on potting soil in large containers , would I be able to use my kitchen scraps in the containers, too ?
Great video Yuliya, thank you 😊. Could you tell us where you buy your arm protector, it’s so pretty

My mom loved the ajuga that grew wild in the backyard. The lady who lives behind us, did something to kill it…claiming that it makes runners, and was ready to run into her yard and kill her plants. Was this likely, or do you think that was an over reaction?
Thank you for this great info Yulia. With putting weeds in the bottom are they smothered enough that you have to worry about their seeds germinating and growing in the pot?
Yes! Unless you have some super invasive weeds like mugwort, elymus, knotweed. Never place those in composting, they may survive
Wow how lucky + blessed are you to receive rain!! We are dying of a drought in Arizona😲🌵🏜️ What state are you in? Your pots/plants turned out beautiful! Please send us some rain! 😭🌧️🥰
She’s in New Jersey.
@@jgwood10 Thanks 😊
The pot combinations are gorgeous! Do you have to worry about weed seeds being in the new compost?
When you put the weeds in the bottom of the pot they won't grow and overgrow the elephant ears? This is my first plant I have had so I am very new to this thank you in advance. 😊
Do not use invasive weeds with strong roots. Good luck!
How do you overwinter your elephant ears? Love them , but didn’t know they could be overwintered. Thanks again 👍❤️😊
May I ask, is your sleeve a farmers defense sleeve?
Do you have a bagged mulch that you like? I typically get butch in bulk, delivered, but occasionally I just need a couple of bags here and there and I’ve not found one I really like.
👍vaso como adubo. Folhas. Chão
Yulia how do you winterize your elephant ears and coffee cups in the garage? I have an unheated garage and this year I stored my elephant ears (not corms) in a pot with potting soil. I watered them once in February, when the soil became too dry, and they came back for me in June, but just little leaves! Not big, like they originally were. Or should I fertilize them with fish fertilizer to make them grow faster?
I used styrofoam- just last week to pot my elephant ears. I wish I saw this first. What type of light do you leave your tea cups in?
Beautiful plants!!❤️😊 are the fish in the pond stays all season?
where did you find these great pots?
Where do you buy your bulbs of elephant ears. I have not had success
I’ve tried to plant silver dichondra by seed and by trying to root it in soil. No luck. Help please.
Where was your patio set from?
She said it is over30 years old. You won’t find that one anywhere.
Yuli, can we grow vegetables in a large container using this method as well? Does anyone know?
Absolutely!
@@greatgardensforall thank you!
