Song: Kingdom of Bards - Adrian Von Ziegler - Zábava
“Ready for bed, sweetie?”
“Can’t mom, there’s a god under my bed”
He is the most reliable god he just goes around and uses his godly power to make people feel bad about themselves
How are they related to The Bogieman as we know him today?
Hob goblins:we are friends now until it’s time for war
Bugbears: *bIg NaP*
“spite he who dishonors his cow”
-hobgob scriptures
My bugbear lived up to his racial name and was mauled to death after trying to get the jump on a sleeping bear.
Well if you got to go, ironically is the best way to do it.
I guess he really shouldn’t have... bugged the bear
@@idrisabdullah3492 NO! None of that shame on you
Hello I'm running a campaign soon do you think 1 bugbear would be good for completely new players I can help but I don't want a tpk
Bugbears gave me the fantasy dream of being Chewbacca.
Not Chewbacca, hairy Yautjua, aka The Predator
Both of you, very true
As a fun side note, Bugbears are involved in one of the dumbest Fighter builds: Bugbear Battlemaster with the Tunnel Fighter style, Polearm Master, and Sentinel
The combination of those words made me throw up.
So you have been witness
@@BR4IN1N4J4R Explain please!
@@maaxorus
So because with the Tunnel Fighter style (UA) you can spend your bonus action to take a stance and make any Opportunity Attacks not use your reaction, combined with Bugbear's Reach, Sentinel, Polearm Mastery, and a Reach Weapon essentially you create a 15' radius aura that limits movement and essentially becomes a better Spirit Guardians, if a smaller radius. And it is difficult to stop, since Disengage doesn't work (Sentinel), and just running is futile (reach, sentinel). It's teleportation (a la Misty Step) or bust, and then, that's essentially a 30' bubble of death that can move.
It's cheesy as hell, and I DO NOT CONDONE THIS BULLSHIT.
Important to remember the bugbear only gets bonus reach on its turn, so not during opportunity attacks.
give a bugbear a polearm, make them a battle master with the lunging attack, give then the polearm master feat, and they can take out anyone within 20ft and hit anyone that gets passes within 15ft.
"Are you going to play ranged or melee?" "Ranged melee."
I'm in a campaign where I, a bugbear, weild a glaive and am partners with a wizard that uses Grease, which has a 15ft radius. I can stand outside the grease and melee anyone that has likely fallen down in it.
This is technically not right, but it's way funner to do it this way.
1 level dip into Immortal Mystic for that +5 range

The hobgoblins in my campaign are super martial, they have gained mad respect from their fellow warriors, when they come across wild hobgoblins they always offer them the chance to join their clan and my standing army. But they brutally slaughter bugbears and goblins and see them as a vile blight upon their race. They are some of my favourite characters.
This guy gets everything I love about goblinoids. They are so cool when you take the time to really use their varried physiology, culture, and skillsets to their fullest and can make frightening enemies and even reasonable players (the lawful evil hobgoblin who works with others because he needs to is one of my favorite archetypes to play. Mean spirited and cruel but polite and loyal to a fault and always true to his word)
Hob-goblins should always be capable of being made scary at any level for a party because all hobs do is centered around war and conquest and they are very good at it since they still exist. They're also scary because they are competent.
Thems be a weird way of spelling Gork and Mork.
Begone, False Dragon!
James VerHulst I'm in flames, cause I have touched the light,
It pulls me so.
We shall be one, forevermore.
That's all I want,
It's all I need.
Everything is fixed,
There's no chance, there's no choice.
It's calling me, Saidin
So precious and sweet,
My mind keeps fading away.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!
Era al'Thor i think you‘ ll find it’s mork and gork... right
Dat an’t a god dat a ork
I’m playing a Bugbear Ranger in a current campaign and it’s been so much fun. He’s basically what would happen if Gruncle Stan and Buck from Ice Age 3 were combined and were Australian. The roleplaying aspect alone is awesome and I just love the aspect of big burly brute that is actually VERY competent in stealth.
Oh my god he sounds great
CapyJaffa
He’s been awesome to play so far, and now, thanks to our Wizard making spell scrolls, he has a bat familiar named Tark who hangs out in his hat. So it’s this big scary monster with a cute bat sitting happily on his head.
Ha nice
Idea for a character:
> Outlander Bugbear Paladin
> Oath of Vengeance
> Was known as the softest and laziest of his clan.
> Best friend of the clan's resident priest to their gods. Not that religious, himself. Too much work.
> Fascinated with the nearby human town his clan occasionally raided. Often liked to observe it from afar. Thought taverns looked fun.
> Hobgoblin host comes one day. Demands the clan fall in line.
> Clan refuses. Fight breaks out. Host slaughters the clan.
> PC only bugbear to survive.
> Dying amongst the bodies of his family/friends, calls out to Hruggek and Grankhul to give him the strength to take revenge.
> Drags himself, Revenant-style down to the human village.
> Warns the humans of the impending hobgoblin attack (more out of spite for the host than compassion for the humans).
> Humans evacuate
> Little girl takes pity on PC. Hides him in a farmer's cart. Takes him with her, nursing him back to health.
> Hobgoblin scouts catch up.
> Still half-dead, Bugbear PC gets a sudden rush of strength.
> Fights off, tracks down, and kills every last scout.
> Wins the respect (or at least the tolerance) of some of the townsfolk.
> Takes his sudden strength and fortune to be a sign Hruggek and Grankhul heard his prayers.
> Arms himself and sets out to gather weapons and warriors to take on the host and claim his vengeance in the name of his gods, his clan, and his best friend.
I've wanted to play a hobgoblin war wizard for a while now because it's just so fitting, and also because the idea of not dying after a single hit from a goblin sounds fun.
when you are a warhammer 40k fan but only just learned about bugbears. DATZ ORKY ROIGHT DERE!
"COMMANDER!!! OUR BRAINS!!! THEY'VE BEEN COMPROMISED BY THE OOOooooooorrrkss!!!!! "
"NO! What is that *S C E N T* ?"
"It smells like... man feathers!!!"
I've made two goofy Goblinoids not long now ago. One was a Bugbear inspired by Son Goku raised by a human monk. Of course he was Sun Soul. And I had a Hobgoblin Sorcerer that went around trying to recruit an army to help murder his family. He had a goblin monk as his servant and it was really funny.
Hobgoblins sound and look like a war based race. The armour of the samurai, the efficiency of a roman, and a god who also governs stoic-ness. Perfect!
Once created a hobglobin named Rhad Rhad, known in some circles as “The Immovable.” He wielded a polearm that was enchanted to function as an Immovable Rod.
Many people lived in fear of Rhad “The Immovable” Rhad’s Immovable Rod.
I was once playing as a hobgoblin in a friendly D&D game at my friends house (it was my second time playing the game and my first as a hobgoblin) and I only really knew three traits of a hobgoblin, I hate elves, I punish any disrespect, and I'm a tactician. Eventually a poor robber jumped in the road with a rusty dagger and threatened us to give him our belongings. Obviously my character didn't take this well so after a natural 20 on a strength check, I grabbed his arm and forced him to drop the dagger. My friends just sort of let me go ham on this occasion so I told the robber we would let him go if he gave US all of HIS belongings (which wasn't much, a few silver at most). So after this he understandably asks if he can go so I say "Well yes, but I never said how much of you can go" and proceeded to chop of the arm I was holding, he screamed and bled out as we were walking away.
I wanted to ask if I'm playing my character right so far or if I should make any changes, I'm still learning D&D so I'm happy to take on suggestions
Hobgoblins are very disciplined so you'd probably just make him drop and give you twenty and THEN steal all his silver, chopping off his arm is more of a orc thing
@@donutlovingwerewolf8837 alright then, less violent maniac, more scary drill Sargent.

I look forward to my Hobgoblin Necromancer. All seriousness
These videos are just making me want to play goblins more and more. But especially a bugbear whose only motivation is food.
Oddly enough the hobgoblin race stats are strangely geared to wizards con and int are both good and giving you two martial weapons and light armor when you already have them as a fighter or any other front line class is useless but for wizards it's better than nothing while saving face is useful for everybody so my take away is why aren't hobgoblins primarily by wizards
@JoeRingo118
I feel that they all have nice uses on classes that arent typical for the race. A gloom stalker Goblin, for one. All the sneakiness and evasion with a nice once a rest cunning action. A Hobgoblin Wizard is a little more able to be partially martial if need be, and is one feat away from medium armor and shields. Cant make an argument for Orcs... theyre just bad.
@@sunlightsage2982 with a nice once a rest cunning action.
This is not true. Goblins can use their cunning action lite every turn. The once per rest ability is fury of the small. Letting you do your level in damage to a larger creature once per rest.
Goblins make amazing Rangers
This is good. I like this. Goblins can turn non rogues into Even more rogueish not-rogues. I still stand by bugbears being better rogues tho.
@JoeRingo118 Man, wizards depiction of the gnoll in 5e still pisses me off.
"hey, lets take a race and remove every bit of backstory and fluff we've made for them and use the one interpretation from a single book that no one liked." Still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Bugbears have always occupied that strange spot among the tribalistic monstrous races where they're just a little bigger than orcs but just a little smaller than ogres, and in most cases by the time it's good to use them... you've basically already moved on to ogres. I generally take them in a different direction, with that in mind.
For my setting, Bugbears exist almost exclusively in the shadow of other developed races, scraping out a living by salvaging scraps and robbing anyone foolish enough to wander around the streets after sundown. They're stealthy enough to get around a city unnoticed and powerful enough to take down a guard patrol singlehandedly if it comes to that. For purely practical purposes, this makes hobgoblins great NPCs for urban adventures, such as boss monsters for small time criminal organizations that resort to thuggery more than subtlety, an untrustworthy guide to get into a particular area of the city unnoticed, or as minions and thugs for a larger criminal organization.
Cthulhu is geting impatient, he wishes a guide to The Great Old ones to be released, so his ways may spread even further, increasing the suffering of the human race.
Oblige or there will be consequences.
Hail Cthulhu!

So what I’m getting from this is: Bugbears worship the twin gods Gork and Mork?

adventures/pcs: welp i know what gonna happen this session
hop goblins: ARHHG HONER RTO MACGLUEBIET
adventures/pcs: AHGHHHHG I WONDER WHAT LOOT WERE GONNA GET
Nice to see the Dar getting more attention 😀
I've always play my bugbear like wookies with the behavior patterns and body language of feral house cats
I've been playing in a gestalt campaign since 2021, before the bugbear rewrite. My bugbears Frost Giant slave name is Hvítr Mús which means bright and colorless mouse in Jotunise (giant speak). Mús pronounced "Meus" is an albino bugbear Yeti (Bear) totem barbarian and Runic Knight. I play the tank/ front line control in my party with glaive/polearm master/sentinnel. When I giant size I stand 16 feet tall and occupy 4 squares. With 15' reach. My favorite surprise attack is called Mús in a box. This is where I hide in a small giftwrapped box that only a small creature could get into and wait to be unwrapped. It's gained so much notariety that the famous minstrel Justin Limbertake wrote diddy of it as a warning to opening gifts with unknown contents. My 37 page backstory can not express how much I love Mús, but my tattoo of him will. Bugbear 4 life people! All of my future character will be from purposefull breeding with Mús lineage. You know the saying, once you go bugbear...
I know this isn't the right video to put it on but I'm so glad you made guides for classes. I was pretty dedicated to one or two classes (Rogue, Paladin) but watching your videos you make all the classes sound really cool and fun to play where as when I read them I just went "Well I don't exactly understand that so I won't play them. You really pushed me out of my D&D shell into trying new things and I've been having way more fun since then! Keep up the awesome videos Davvy!
Every class is fun if you do it right. And things can get real crazy once you start multiclassing. It takes a bit of tinkering to find worthwhile combinations, but it allows for some truly unique characters.
For example, one level of wizard can give you the emergency +5 AC boost of "shield", the "I dont care what its AC is, Imma do damage now" of "magic missile" and some neat ritual spells like "comprehend languages" and "find familiar" (take owl, it works as a recon drone, nightvision goggles, binoculars, etc)
Oh and also some cool cantrips.
Samurai Hobgoblins
Hruggek and Grenkul are cunningly brutal and brutally cunning? Does Games Workshop know about this? The Warhammer fantasy/40k ork gods Gork and Mork would like to have a word with these two.
I run hobgoblins as like Samurai and there’s almost always a Ronin Hobgoblin with a vengeance in my campaigns.
Thruggug and grencool sound like gork and mork with extra steps
OOOOHHH YEAAAAAAAHH
GET THEM KNIFE EAAAAARS
HOBGOBLIN *POWWEEEEEEER!*
You can tell that the Hobgoblins are the organized ones; they're the ones with shoes.
I was 99% sure I was subscribed to you cause I’ve watched all of your videos but I looked in my recommended and I saw a new video so I had to check and turns out I wasn’t but I am now
I expected bugbears to be well some fusion of a bug and a bear. Not mean wookies. As for the hobgoblin, where are the cleaners? You know those charged with cleaning up the battlefield, cleaning up after their brethren makes a mess and the ones charged with keeping the place clean.
Hobgoblins are my favorite monsters to DM.
Now I’m imagining a hobgoblin conquest paladin who is lawful evil and believes in doling out punishment in what could be described as extreme prejudice. Like let’s say for punishment he’s going to hit the offender repeatedly with a club covered in barbed wire and says “I don’t do this out of love” if someone convinces him to not use the barbed club, he’d grimace and pout before begrudgingly putting it away to pull out a flat edge club to spank them into submission.
I’ve recently become fascinated with goblinoids and this video is amazing.
Remember: Not evil, just lazy!
I'm actually going to be running a campaign on Roll20 that revolves around that whole host idea behind the goblins and their subraces. It's gonna be a blast! (I hope)
wait a second...
They ripped off Gork and Mork!

God damn, these monster races are so freaking cool. There is literally no other fictional mythos where every race has this much lore put into them.

I made a Hobgoblin Hexblade who had a direct view of things along with having a big boner towards honor. The party was being threatened by a person who was threatening to kill the party's family with a deadman's switch, my character immediately got the idea to grab her hand, keeping her thumb on the switch, and simply asked, "So if your thumb stays on there, the spell doesn't go off?" He then proceeded to pull out his battle-axe to cut her hand off at the wrist. The DM was sweating bullets because he didn't think that and let out a sigh of relief when my character failed the attack roll.
What about the knobgoblins
Goblinslayer:Gaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwblllllllinssssss
Here's what I'm thinking: A Bugbear rogue who has taken to adventuring because he believes that his gods cursed him with not being lazy, and he is intent on breaking this curse and taking a long nap.
Was that zac effron?
So, murderhobos.
What if hobgoblins come about as a curse upon a person if they are too bloodthirsty, and act upon those murderhobo tendencies?
I am ok with different aligned bugbears, Goblins, and such since if they did exist their is no way, ALL of them would be bad
