  • Ingredients
    1. Manathakkali kai (Milagu thakkali kai) - ½ cup
    2. Shallots - ¼ cup (finely chopped)
    3. Garlic - 15 pods (finely chopped)
    4. Tomato - 1 no
    5. Sesame oil - 3 tbsp
    6. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
    7. Fenugreek seeds - ½ tsp
    8. Chana dal - 1 tsp
    9. Cumin seeds - ½ tsp
    10. Red chilies - 3 nos
    11. Curry leaves - 2 spring
    12. Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
    13. Red chili powder - 1 tsp
    14. Coriander powder - 1 tsp
    15. Sambar powder - 1 tsp
    16. Salt to taste
    17. Tamarind water - 1 cup (From gooseberry sized tamarind)
    18. Hing - a pinch
    Method
    1. Wash the Manathakkali kai well.
    2. Heat oil in a Kadai, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds,channa dal, fenugreek seeds. Once it splutters add curry leaves and red chilli.
    2. Add sliced garlic and saute until raw smell goes. Add sliced shallots and saute well until it turns translucent.
    3. Add the manathakkali kai and saute for two minute.
    4. Now add the tamarind juice and mix it well.Add turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder, sambar powder and required salt stir it well.
    5. Cover and cook in medium flame until oil seperates and manathakkali kai gets cooked well.
    6. Our pachai manathakkali kai pulikulambu is ready. Serve it hot for cooked rice along with appalam.
