  • In today's reaction video, we reflect on the lyrics of the song Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore by Chris Stapleton. This is a super sad song but a must listen.
We've all experienced the loss of someone we love and this song captures some of that heartache.

Sola Melodica exists to uncover a glimmer of God in the art form of music. We focus primarily on hard rock, metal, punk, alternative, and occasionally outlaw country.
    Good News and Bad News
Typically people want the bad news first.
The bad news is that we are all sinners. You are a sinner and I am a sinner.
God’s creation was perfect. Our original ancestors, Adam & Eve, had direct access to God. He visited them and they would hang out together.
God is perfect and He created a perfect people.
Sadly, sin entered this perfect creation through an act of rebellion. That one act of rebellion threw everything into chaos.
Immediately, they were cognizant of their sin. They worked to cover their nakedness and began to pass blame.
A curse entered the earth and now every person born would be born under that sinful curse.
Many people will argue that at least they are not Hitler or Stalin. Most of us are not serial killers!
We’re in relatively decent shape, or so we think.
    It’s not that simple, though.
As Steve Taylor wrote in his song Jesus Is For Losers, “They don’t grade here on a curve, we both know what we deserve.”
I am guilty of sin and you are guilty of sin. “What sin?” you ask. Lying, stealing, envy, lust, the list goes on and on. Each of which knocks us off of our “pedestal” of perfection.
If we boil this down to a court session we would be proven guilty. The prosecutor would present indisputable evidence of our misdeeds and transgressions.
Our good works don’t offset our sin.
Plus, there is no statute of limitations on our sin.
Justice demands recompense. The verdict would be swift and the judgment severe.
    The Good News
God had a plan all along.
True justice could not ignore these iniquities and transgression. The penalty had to sufficiently cover every sin that was committed in the past and any sin that would be committed in the future.
    Yes, all of them.
As soon as the original sin (thanks Adam & Eve) was committed God put His plan into motion.
Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, came to earth sinless and perfect. He lived His life free of sin and transgression. He healed the sick, raised the dead, fed the hungry, and loved fearlessly.
He was the perfect sacrifice for our sin.
A lamb without spot or blemish was sentenced to die a brutal death on our behalf.
Jesus was tortured without mercy. He was mocked, spat upon, cursed, and deserted by His friends. The beating, according to Isaiah, was so ghastly that He could not be recognized as a human (Isaiah 52:14). He died a horrific death, gasping for air, nailed to a cross.
His death was only one part of the redemption story. The best part was death could not keep Him. He defeated death and conquered hell.
It’s written, “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification” (Romans 4:25).
The resurrection did not transpire until justification (justice), in the eyes of God, was achieved.
The punches, whipping, cursing, crown of thorns, nailing, and betrayal were for you and were for me.
What Jesus endured was more violent and appalling than anything Quentin Tarantino could envision.
The price for our sins has been paid. There is no double jeopardy in the Kingdom of God. Our sin is judged in Christ.
That, my friend, is Good News!
What’s our part to play in this Gospel plan? Not much, actually.
We acknowledge that we’re sinners and in need of a savior. We recognize that we’re incapable of saving ourselves and need a rescuer. We repent of our sin and ask God for forgiveness. Humbly, we accept the atoning sacrifice and redemption that is found only in Jesus Christ.
I recommend that you look up Psalm 51 and read it. It’s about a man who committed adultery and then had the husband murdered to cover his sin. His heartfelt and sincere prayer just might be the inspiration you need to form your own prayer to God.
Everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved!

One of the reasons we chose this song to play at our daddy’s funeral was because this is how my daddy was. He had a wife and three children and he worked two and three jobs to support us. And all three of his children went through those stages of rebellion where we thought we were right and he was wrong. At the end of the day he was right! I was blessed to be with my daddy when he left this world. I love you Daddy!!!

I think you would like "Farther Along" by Leslie Jordan ft. Chris & Morgane Stapleton. You get to see the adorable Leslie, hear Morgane sing a verse solo & then watch Chris stand with his hands in his pockets & burn the room down. BTW during Covid lockdown Leslie did tons of videos for his "fellow hunker-downers" to help keep spirits up. Then he did an album of hymns - duets of him & various singers. This is one of them.

Chris wrote this song in 15 minutes, while his wife was getting dressed for an outing. Amazing! We played this song at my Daddy’s Funeral about three years ago. It was the last song we played before they took his body out to the grave. I love this man and all of his songs!

This song hits me at my core, not because of my birth father but for my mother's brother my Uncle Ralph to whom I owe a lot of thankfulness for making me the man I am. Were it were not for my uncle Ralph I would probably be in prison or long ago dead. His teachings and his teaching by example kept me from taking the wrong path. Nor many people knew my uncle Ralph like I did. It might surprise a lot of people that he was very spiritual and close to the Lord. He studied the bible and every book on the bible he could get his hands on. Uncle Ralph did many things that made some who did not know him think that he was a fool. Uncle Ralph would help anyone who asked him and he helped many who did not ask him. He made a good living most of his life but left this world leaving very few material things behind and he did not live a life of ease. Uncle Ralph would help people that he knew would never pay him back and he never expected anyone he helped to pay him back. This is but one example of how uncle Ralph lived his life by the Lord's word and expectations of his children. Uncle Ralph rarely prayed in sight of others but many times when I would walk by his bedroom door I would see him sitting on the side of the bed with his hands together and his head bowed down in prayer. I followed uncle Ralph's examples and teachings as closely as I could. He did not simply make me a man, he made me a Lord loving man. I am nothing special I did not achieve anything great but, I am thanks to uncle Ralph a man. So one day uncle Ralph did not pray anymore but he didn't need to he was talking directly to the Lord and the Father. My favorite hymns are "In the Garden" and "Whispering Hope".

I have no idea if this song is mainstream but it's a hymn we sang in a small church I grew up in and it has influenced me often the words are "oh Lord help me be merciful to others just as you've been merciful to me. Hear me when I call keep me lest I fall into the pits from which you've set me free oh Lord help me merciful to others just as you've been merciful to me." With this song in my soul I find it easier to walk away from trouble.not to be as judgemental of others and to be a bit more empathetic of another's situations even the ones I'm unaware of but potentially could be there

Thanks for uploading. If you have a second come check out my cover of Dan and Shay - I'm a singer/songwriter and think you may dig my sound. Really appreciate it!

@@Heather-jj9sk! I will never respect any religion! Anymore than I would anyone or anything that believes in that which is pure nonsense! Would you respect someone who stated that the earth is flat! If you believe in the supernatural you are an idiot!

      J. Whisper, I am not asking you to respect any specific religion. I asked that you be respectful to others that do believe. I am far from being an "idiot" as implied; I am actually well educated. A weak comparison/argument was given on yout behalf. It just sounds like you have a deeper hurt, so praying for you I will continue to do. Have a fabulous day.
