I had my IUD taken out 6 months ago. Was it worth it?

- Six months ago, I made the decision to have my IUD taken out after having it in for 4+ years. I was dealing with awful hormonal acne, which was the main driver of my decision.
My skin looks WORLDS better but there have still been some downsides. Heres what I’ve noticed.

I love that you’re so real and share “real people problems”. Also off topic, your eyes are absolutely beautiful!
Aww thank you! That was kind.
@@beth_and_coop you’re so welcome! I have wondered something for a while.. how old was coop when he got his glasses? I’m a sahm to 4 sons, including a set of 26 weeker twins. The twins were discovered to have absolutely terrible vision and are very far sighted, and have one eye that’s started crossing. They’ve had glasses for about 2-3 months and I STILL cannot get them to keep them on longer than a few minutes. They rip them off and throw them down. They’re 2, but a little bit behind due to being so early. I don’t know if I just need to keep trying or what to do. I’m literally at the end of my rope with the dang things and they hate them. The crossing is getting worse and I want to help them but… they don’t listen or care what’s best for them, obviously. They’re 2. Also the dr told me it should only take a week or so to get them to wear them… they haven’t been around my feral boys. 😏
@@kmcc6 he was 2.5 I think! But we went lucky because he was already used to having his cochlear implants on so I don’t think the glasses were as foreign. Plus he really needed them so he liked that he could see and that meant he kept them on. Have you tried various brands? We love our Tomato’s.
I went through a free of cost listening therapy Sura Rahman for 7 days to deal with such issues. It cures amazingly , even last stage cancers of the patients have been cured through it
Thank you so much for sharing this! Everyone talks about the pros of contraceptives but never the cons or the side effects and there are so many side effects (obviously not all women will be affected) but it sheds a light on what could happen. Thank you ❤
Thankfully I see so much information being shared on social media about the cons of different type of contraceptives, with an emphasis on the fact the majority of Gynecologists refuse to provide pain management during IUD insertion and the negative side effects/risks of hormonal b/c
You sound like my daughter and what she went through with "the copper 7"❣️Then that implant in her arm had her gaining so much weight and losing her hair🥺 not to mention the massive mood swings💯Her birthday is on Mother's Day and we finally have things "under control" ☺️btw, she's 35❣️I think you're beautiful 🥰
Beth
You are so honest it’s amazing! When was the last time you had a blood test? You should go to your Primary Doctor for a yearly check up. How are your nails? No ridges going up and down, no cracking hopefully! He can check your hormones also. Or go to your GYN and have him do the blood work. Either way is fine. I’m way older than you but my nails were cracking and my hair was falling out. He did a blood test and I found out I was anemic. I’m on an iron pill manufactured y MegaFood it’s called blood Builder. I bought it
On Amazon. Good luck sweetie and give Cooper a giant kiss for me!!💜🌷💜
Definitely check on iron levels. Nearly 2 years ago I noticed I was always tired, not just a little but a lot, and my hair was falling out in huge amounts. Long story short, I got COVID, which led to shingles which forced me to go to the doctor where I happened to ask about my exhaustion. Blood work followed with a hospital stay because my hemoglobin was critical and I needed blood (4 units)...further testing revealed I was quite anemic...iron pill and multivitamin for the win
You need copper and retional to absorb iron. Most anemic people actually have too much iron that's not being properly regulated due to lack of other minerals.
Might be low or high thyroid hormones too.
Thanks for being so honest and informative 💕
I couldn’t imagine feeling that on my jaw. You’re such a fighter. Love from England ❤❤
Thank you for this! I’m planning to have mine removed in the next few months for similar reasons and I’m happy to hear your experience!
I love that you're so honest and real in your video! I don't have any IUD /acne/child experiences, but I still enjoy your bubbly videos! I have lost some hair from a weight loss rx, and so I went with hair extensions from a salon in Maple Grove, MN. I only got them for myself, and I love them! They really boosted my self esteem, and that's all that that's important. Anyways, thank you for making this video!
I wish my experience was like yours with my IUD. I had very very heavy and long periods (always 7 to 12 days). I was anemic all the time. It caused so many infections. PID is the main reason it had to be removed. It was so bad I had to keep getting antibiotic IV's. It was so painful😢
I had a similar situation with the copper iud. I switched to a hormonal one and it's been great ever since
I never noticed any pimples. You are so beautiful that even a pimple can't change that.
Aww well thank you
Thank you for sharing this ❤
Thanks for sharing Beth. My daughter has been thinking about getting one and this helps as she already gets those awful under the skin cystic bumps so an IUD may not be ideal for her!! Thanks again!!
Girl, I'm so with you. Very similar experience after removing my hormonal IUD of 5 years... I'm a year out, and the excessive hair loss has continued, but slowed down! it's a journey, but I'd also argue worth it:)
(Ps I love your hair)
But I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about the IUD from 2 of my very close friends that had it and some that I’ve read online cuz I was considering doing it but now I’m for sure NOT. Thanks for sharing your story so others can hear about this topic!
You did the right thing! I changed my pills wuth different kind and felt lot better. I was really depressed with first ones, it was like someone lifted veil from my head after I stopped using them.
Thanks for sharing the pros and cons of an IUD
I wonder if it will just take your body a little while to completely reset and then things like your hair will go back to more like it was before? Fingers crossed for you. I remember those stressful years of trying at times almost desperately to find a decent birth control. 😣
When I first stopped taking the pill my hair also started to fall out (I also have a lot of hair like you, so it wasnt too much of an issue). Along with that came a lot of emotions and emotional instability, as well as just fatigue. those things did balance itself out after about 6 months tho. I was scared I would get the pain I had before I went on the pill at 14 (I stopped at 26), but I don't get much pain at all during my period. I mostly get super tired right before and during my period, which I didn't get before. Before I mostly got super emotional in the days before, which I can still get now. My period did get a big heavier, but nothing too crazy. All in all it's worth it. I figured out I'm gay anyways, so I don't need it for birth control, lol. I think the hormones becoming the way they should be also helped in just figuring out who I am and that I'm actually gay and that I do want kids at some point, I just don't wanna carry them.
Ok with your hair falling out like that I'd DEFINITELY get your thyroid checked and check it against previous numbers. Doctors like to tell you it's in normal range, but a huge shift can mean it's off! I tend to do better when my numbers stay right at 1.0 but everyone is a little different (and the "normal" range is something stupid like 0.5-3 or 4, if I'm all the way at like 3.5 I am MISERABLE, but I always have to convince new docs of that fact 🙃)
I was on some form of hormonal birth control from ages 18 to 30. The last one I was on was the arm implant one (nexplanon/Implanon). They all made me gain weight, but the last one was by far the worst. I gained 50 pounds in a year from it. My skin freaked out and I had horrible acne on my cheeks and jaw area. I also had crazy mood swings. My cycle was nonexistent but I still felt like 💩 every month. I had it removed 3 years ago after only having it in for a year. Best decision I ever made. I immediately began to feel better, my skin cleared up, and I dropped some weight. Part of the motivation to get off of it was for TTC, but mainly for my overall health and well being.
Hi Beth! Have your D3 level checked! I was losing excess amounts of hair and extreme fatigue. D3 level was so low! Supplements were a saving grace. And easy fix.
Thanks for posting this. I'm going through something very similar but in reverse. Im peri-menopausal and my GP has put me on low dose HRT patches but ive had to come off my combi pill and go onto a progestogen only pill which is playing havoc with my skin. The thing is im not on the pill for birth control but for painful periods so coming off it isnt really an option. I feel so stuck on what to do.
With your hair thing maybe get some blood tests done but particularly get your thyroid checked.
Ugh hormones are so frustrating! And yes, my thyroid was checked and was good!
@@beth_and_coop they're a nightmare aren't they?! I've never had spots in my life and now I'm nearly 50 and I'm bloody covered in them!!!🤣
Ah that's great to hear👍🏼 Could just be a hormone thing then. I've noticed, since I've changed pills that my hair is falling out more but it also just thins with age. I've got tons of hair like you so nobody notices that it's thinned except me but as you said, if someone already has thin hair it would be really impactful.
My daughter did the same thing and your hair loss is normal . She has has bought of pmdd she feels better off then all
I'm coming to the end of my second mirena IUD. And the difference in side effects and cycle between the two IUDs has been really big. So many more negative side effects with the second one. Having said that I will have a third one as its the best option for me to control my heavy, painful, irregular cycle. But I'm dreading it (not only for the pain of having it done - right up there with kidney stones for me!) but for the unknown of how my body will react to this one this time.
Can’t wait for cooper to be a big brother! 👏🏼💙
hahahhahahahaah
Are you worried about embedding?
@@ctankus what do you mean
I have also been experiencing my hair over-shedding, but after blood work it is believed it is due to high cortisol levels from stress.
I had more than the average amount of hair to begin with like you, but I was shedding about 150+ hairs a day for a while, which is well over what you should.
I seem to have lost maybe 25-30% of my hair now? Any more and it would be noticeable to others. 😢
I had hormonal acne to the point I had to take Accutane. I had a complete Hysterectomy at 29 for Endometriosis, so no more b/c. Severe and/or Cystic Acne is such a painful experience
I had the mirena for 4-5months and I’d get disgusting pains out of nowhere that would have me crunching over on the streets…. Insane. I had horrible smell down there no matter what I did.. and I was SOOOO fatigued. Not for me.
About the hair, did you get your thyroid checked? Or other possible imbalances in hormones
After the excruciating pain I experienced and was subsequently gaslit ⛽ 🔥 about getting mine put in, I'm afraid of what I will go through getting it taken out. 😢
Collagen peptides for your hair. That is what helped me.
Hmm this is interesting. Mine is not coming out because it is part of hormone replacement (perimenopause) but I’ve been getting ridiculous acne on the back of my neck on the hairline. I now wonder if it is IUD hormone related. I don’t think it ever happened before it.
I had my IUD for 5 years and took it out around 7 months ago. The main positive I have noticed is just mood change. I felt like a different person whether I was super happy or crying over nothing. The main negative I got was menstrual migraines now which I never had before. Looking to see if these are temporary while my body figures itself out or permanent. I was hoping to lose weight and clear up my skin but so far didn’t have those happen still happy to be off even if its just for a few years before I go back on it.
YES. The headaches are no joke. I've been encountering that more and more often too.
Are you taking something else for birth control? Im curious if the changes of bc can causw symptoms
beth and coop? a nod to "i love you beth cooper?"
That’s great you chose that for your body! I had been on BC since 15 and made the decision to stop it for good at age 33 and let my body do what it’s supposed to do. My period took a year to start, and it’s irregular to the point that it only happens every other month (I’m April it came at the beginning and end of the month). It’s also at the end of the month instead of the beginning like it was during the very short times I was off it. Making a choice to not put pharmaceuticals in our body is a HUGE WIN. I think people often forget that they can say NO to their doctor, and that there are holistic treatments for their ailments.
You did great choosing to take control of your health. You will find the balance for hell week! Just have the hubby and Coop slip you some dark chocolate underneath your bathroom door to feed the beast 😂😂😂
You are stunning and I la la loooove your channel. One thing I think would be so much more gorgeous is please get rid of the crazy lash extensions.
I think she looks gorgeous just like she is!
Thanks for the unsolicited appearance advice.
What would you recommend for non-hormonal contraceptive solutions, if you don't mind me asking?
Not OP but there are a few different options. There’s a non-hormonal contraceptive pill that I can’t remember the name of, you’ll have to look it up, that’s taken before sex. The only known contraceptive solution with no side effects, though, is natural family planning or fertility awareness methods (they’re technically almost the same thing except NFP relies on abstinence instead of protection) where you time sex around avoiding your fertile window, which when done correctly is as effective, if not more effective than birth control generally. Other than these, I’m unsure, but you might want to research more.
I had my copper IUD and I loved it, other than my periods getting heavier. HOWEVER- the removal was literally traumatic. I’m not kidding. I’m terrified to even go for a pap test because of how painful and horrific the removal was. I was actually supposed to get the IUD switched out for another one, but as soon as mine was removed I got out of there as fast as I could.
It made me realize how disgusting it is that women are not given pain management for gynaecological procedures (which is based on a super fucked up myth that the cervix DOES NOT HAVE NERVE ENDINGS, when in fact it has A LOT.)
Do u think u want a 2nd child that why you took it out
she literally said she didn't...? hello
Thank you for sharing! I had a similar experience after stopping the pill I took to control PCOS for 10 years! Would you mind sharing which type of IUD you took out (copper or hormonal)? I hear so many different opinions on them
Hope your journey rediscovering your cycle is a good one 🫶🏻
I had the Mirena!
