Just ordered a LG 2017 4K TV. And then discovered the Magic Remote which is an extra. This video was therefore very helpful in explaining the differences of the standard and magic remotes. In the Uk there appears to be limited availability and the an-mr650a (the 2017 version is about £55. Not sure it is worth it for a pointer and limited voice search functionality. Thanks again for the video. You probably saved me spending £55.
What you forgot to mention is that the magic remote is an RF remote and the normal remote is an IR remote. The magic remote works thanks to the RF from almost anywhere. Even if you leave the room and close the door. I wish LG had more remotes working on RF instead of just the magic remote.

Terrible remote, completely unintuitive and I need to turn a flash light on to see where the volume and channel buttons are. I still use my STB remote as it has been designed by someone who has thought about it, unlike the 'magic' remote. Only one remote works at a time, so two people can't have a working remote each.

Universal remote, my arse. I use my BT Youview remote and it is 1,000 times better and it is pretty average. The LG remote might be okay if it was supplied with a torch, I ended up turning the main light on during the film, passing my BT remote on the way, making the device redundant
I dont like this LG magic remote.. Stopped working before 1 year and not even got replaced or repaired.. Ticket not registered by LG customer service team inspite of registering complaint before warranty period..They asked for Rs. 2000 for replacement which is not worth this remote..
hate the amazon button its not even a thing here yet it has its own button on the remote...LG fked up here. LG get rid of it im sure theres a more usefull menu bbutton function on that place they can use. Also the fact a regular remote does not work easely meas the menu is flawed. personally i hate the smart remote as button layout is only friendly for tiny kids hands. the important buttons are to low and i will drop it when i try to use bottom keys or i need 2 hands which is rediculous. the should have move 1-0 at the bottom as noone really uses that these days.

You can also train this remote to replace some of your other equipment remotes. You can use voice to change channels also ie say "channel 158" etc
