Honestly this was the first build where I stopped and said “wait, no I don’t.” Aside from Chorfs, Warriors of chaos is my favorite faction, I just prefer Archeon as a character to Kholek, though he is usually my first confederation target. Because he is still really cool.
I think confederation is definitely a great incentive to play the warhost of the apocalypse over the heralds. I agree.
@@BlakesTakes420 it’s not that Kohlek isn’t cool, because he definitely is, I just like Archeon more. I rarely even play the monopod champions because he’s just that cool.
people can have opinions and preferences to things that might not seem optimal to others. It's why things like four halflings barbarians in BG3 or beating Morrowind with only scrolls (exception being for the two weapons for heart) are so entertaining to watch.

"When all you have is a hammer, every problem begins to look like a nail." And Kholek has a pretty big hammer, and a lot of nails in his way.
The tip for reason 1 is pretty funny using Kholek in ambush stance considering how massive he is. But a great tip is a great tip, the humor in it is just a bonus to such a great and clever scheme worthy of Tzeentch.
Thank you for the lovely comment, I recall in warhammer 1 that Kholek had some debuff to ambush defense chance or something to reference his gargantuan size.
When you ambush Boris and Kholek smash him while the dragon ogres overwhelm the bear riders it is a wonderful satisfaction

The Chaos Gods and their champion hate each other. Of course they get upset when you start conquering the world they want to burn. It's not about destroying the world, it's about being the one who does it.
Kholek's wonky animations are probably one of the main reasons why he sometimes struggles against single entities when on paper he should absolutely demolish them. Big L for CA that they didn't update them as well when Archaon got his new moves in the CoC update.
On another topic, I think Arkhan is a prime candidate for a guide; poor dude is stuck crapstacking in the ass end of Nehekhara with nothing but angry midgets and Frenchmen around him.

yep he could definitely do with a touch up. He does this animation where he rears up on his hind legs , but it bugs and he just cancels it, it's pretty goofy.
Bro they released a completely broken (underpowered) Frost Wyrm for Kislev, and in the hot fix patch they...
nerfed it. Freely updating animations for existing content and having everything just do the job its intended for? Hah.
@@Zwijger They literally made multiple large, free reworks for existing factions in game 3 alone, one of which contained new animations for Archaon. So it's not as ridiculous as you make it out to be.

@@BlakesTakes420 I generally agree with the Nurgle preference, their sorcerers and heroes work the best with monster armies in my experience. I am a bit mixed on Grimgor as a vassal though. Because there's a higher risk than usual of him grabbing a Dark Fortress Site and he doesn't do any trading, I might steer away from him. There have been campaigns where I've left him alone and some where I've destroyed him early. And I think I prefer destroying him early overall.

I absolutely love your "why you suck" videos. The opening and presentation are hilarious to me. Your voice and the tone of feeling like I am being talked down to makes it even more entertaining. Great video, but I have to admit I had to double take when I saw the thumbnail, with the idea that the race that pretty much wins from turn 1 is a struggle after that dlc.

Normally, I hate video titles that make assumptions about me. "10 facts you didn't know about..." "You won't believe..." but I saw one of these in my recommended and for once I'm like, yeah, I do suck with Kolek. Then I scrolled through some more and was like, "Yeah, I do suck with Katarin, I do suck with the Empire, I do suck with Khorne". Then I realized I just suck at Total War Warhammer with the exception of pretty much exclusively (chaos)dwarves and skaven, and even then I'm not great.

This is a very hot take, Mr Blake. It's nice to see we have similar ways of "using" Vassals like Grimgor. ;)
You didn't mentioned save scuming a turn before eye of the gods mechanics is up to run. You can get -50% cost for every gift of chaos so you can get those shaggoths. Another way is to select and unselect some undivided gift of chaos undivided. Each time you sacrifice those souls so you can sacrifice 11k souls while you have those 11k and at least one gift of chaos to select and unselect multiple times.

Absolutely been loving the videos! This one is great as well! I would like to see an update after the Thrones of Decay DLC.
I did want to say that the strategy in reason 3 has been significantly harder to pull off now that the above Nurgle faction has a new legendary lord with some very powerful heroes ready to take "The Challenging Stone" right after you deal with the Tusked Sunz. May not be entirely consistent but after 2-3 runs it feels like Tamurkhan always destroys your Northern vassal and puts up a very hard fight for your capital by turn 5-9. This fight is mostly hard due to them having Anti-Large Rot Knights and Hero good at killing heroes on every run.

@@BlakesTakes420 and is Tamurkhan's campaign goal to kill, which means the AI is automatically at war with Kholek turn 1. my strategy since then has changed to kill the sunz, give their shit to Dolgan so they stay alive, and then hard pivot north to Tamurkhan and maybe evict Archaon while i'm up there assuming Grimgor is distracted by some random ogres.
I think the advice to keep your sorcerers undivided if people are struggling is a good idea and agree you don't need the other lores. That being said, when you're able to better know where you'll need your caster during battle the chaos warshrines are a big buff for an army (more magic from tzeentch or free mortis engine aoe from slaanesh), and that along with fun lores make the devoted casters quite valuable. Getting to this point for WoC is easier than most factions since you're such a powerhouse and are often best served by murder ball tactics - or close enough for 40m buff at least :).
Yeah the devoted casters are fine but the souls spent I think are better served with your exalted heroes and Lords
Well, I don't know about WH3 but in the 1st game, Kholek was an absolute delight for me to play with and burn down a pretty good chunk of the map! Warriors of Chaos are fun!
I love woc and i do enjoy papa nurgle but i must admit, khorne devotes are my choices for lord simply because our big boy is an angry dragon ogre , i do stills sneak a wizard in every army. But i can see the great senergie with nurgle , thank you for this wonderful guide my good man!

Healing magic synergizes incredibly well with single entity and low number of entity units, so it's not bias. But I do hope he does a video on other Warriors of Chaos factions for some contrast.

For the last tip, never seek alliance with your other warrior of chaos colleagues, just crush them and vassalize them. I rushed K'datha then Archaon province and vassalize him in the end, I had made a peace treaty with the first greenskins ennemy and so never bother going into the mountains of mourn. also for a WoC the general rule of the thumb is to get many fortresss as possible in the early game. And my favourite god to go with kholek was Tzeentch and so basically smash Vilitch 's face and proven that i am the worthiest guy to represent Tzeentch.

I highly recommend using the mod "no diplomatic pentalty for having vassals" when playing WoC, seems odd that other chaos factions would see your vassals and get angry lol
"Why work for him when you could work for me" & Survival of the fittest is pretty fitting for WoC though, plus they infight all the time
for my sins I only play vanilla - I don't like it when I come to rely on a mod and it breaks every patch.

I love vassalised Grimgor as a wrecking-ball, but as kholek I also love being a real big boy and that requires vassals, which Grimgor will steal from me if I’m not careful
I've never had the Summoners of Rage appear, despite owning all the DLC (save SoC, waiting on a sale now that they've added some to it). Very interesting. Turns out I was missing some Total War Access stuff!
So I am not alone with this 😅

A good way to get more undivided souls is by removing a gift, and then turning it back on again on the same turn, although i belive you can only do this once per turn.

Other than the Manticore mount, if i can take the hit i will with a fire sorcerer that i turn into a Tzeetch chosen, the ways you can stack weakness to fire is brutal but other than that, full agree

Tried to follow this tutorial after the maggot lord update and you can no longer keep pushing south since the maggot lord is set on a direct path to your only city
I think this is where the new systems for Alliances would come in handy, as you could order Grimgore to pull back once he weakens up an enemy faction, or point him towards armies that will give him a little trouble to slow him down.

With Thrones of Decay out, I think you'll need to make an addendum for this guide on account of the Maggot Lord breathing down your neck now, and I've seen AI Kholek ALWAYS getting wiped out by Temrukhan, the same goes for Grimgor.

Don't sell every territory you take, the resources can be massively powerful for the warriors of chaos. They stack for every one you get, so the more iron you get, the more +10 armour buffs you get. It's not necessary, and a lot of the buffs are kinda mid, but it's worth taking a look.
Ports are worthless though

While i agree that keeping you´re RoR in reserve Is probebly the smart and more tacticly sound way to handle things in most campaigns be it empire or deamons. That said i personaly find it much more enjoyable to use them, at least a fair few of them, since some of them often have unique abilities or look really ballers so in the name of me enjoying the game i will keep using Regtiments of renown with reckless abandon rather then keep them as a suprise garrison.
Just because I saw you trying to target a spell and it constantly locked on to targets you didn't want, if you hold ALT you can ground-target AOE spells and it won't lock to nearby targets, making casting a precise spell directly between units much easier.

I hope more people speak up to CA about the generic chaos character mounts. All through TT history with Chaos, Marked Lords and heros do NOT lose access to Manticores (Chimera, who are not in the game) or Chaos dragons. Yep, you can even plop a Khorne Lord on a dragon if you choose.
Futhermore, losing one upon marking them is LORE BREAKING. They risk their lives to break these creatures to their will (or risk themselves seeking an unholy alliance with the dragons) and would never ditch them simply because their god of choice finally stuck a mark on them.
Chaos is a faction with extemely limited ranged units (and Khorne is limited with the use of ranged AND magic). They need access to those things that should be at their disposal to fill these holes. I see people complaining how straight forward and lacking in strategies alot of Chaos is, but when they have spent most the games lifespan without most of their units and characters, and now still don't have all their montrous mount units, I can see why people would think so. It limits the players choices and strategies. Putting all that aside, I do hope people make it known that they NEED these options to be a complete and fulfilling faction to play. God touched mounts are cool, but in usefulness, it makes marking champions a DOWNGRADE in most cases. And it shouldnt be that way!
Better yet, CA could reskin these mounts and "theme" them for all 4 gods. Would be a great way to fluff up these chaos DLCs!

Playing warriors of chaos without the fudging vassals mod is an inferior experience. Being able to claim territory taken by vassals, and then selling it back or keeping a conquered dark fortress is divine. .
I think the fact that chaos factions get angry at you for vassalizing other factions is actually really good and kinda lore accurate.
When youre out there vassalizing other people youre doing a good job and drawing the attentions of the chaos gods.
Meaning the chaos gods arent looking at the other guy. Chaos is by its nature very cannibalistic and for the most part it isnt enough for any True Lord of Chaos that he succeeds others around him must fail.

So at least for my runs and maybe it's because I wasn't using nurgle lords and heroes, but the Dragon Ogre Shaggoths always felt like they underperformed compared to the standard Dragon Ogres. While I'm sure following following my ABCs (Always Be Charging) can make Shaggoths shine, being able to turn off my brain and throw standard Dragon Ogres at a problem without worrying about them just getting snipped by ranged units and the higher model count allowing them to really tear through infantry faster always felt more valuable. Giants felt much more reliable given their model makes them fairly safe against Anti Large and they also don't get stuck in infantry blobs as much as the Shaggoths do from my experience. I'll give my next Kholek run a shot with the Nurgle lords and heroes as that might be what it takes for me to see the true potential in the Shaggoths.
Beyond that, only major difference was I really don't like to risk going after Grimgore so early, I usually march into Cathay and get as many vassals as I can before tackling him, so I can be alongside him in the war front down the line to make sure he isn't wiping factions out.
Awesome video! One weird thing I've been encountering though is that I am unable to recruit the Summoners of the Rage at all :(. After capturing the challenge stone, I am unable to see them in my regiments of renown list, and they also do not appear at all in the regiment of renown list behind a lock or anything

Telling ya because I specifically remember ya asked me to tell ya when I dun' made progress with em'. They're essentially a lot like the Oracles of Tzeentch except w/ Skarbrand's Bloodletting mechanic and equally co-dependent economy. Don't have a good name for them yet tho. And their Rivals are essentially a love letter between the Empire, the Skaven, and the Orcs except they're stuck inside a polyamorous marriage. Also need a name lol.
Maybe the name should be Nugle, as in they're smoking all these fire nugs.🔥

I know you aren't promoting mods here but the "trade any settlements" mod allows trading anywhere for anything. Also deals with the vassal issue.

I guess it *kinda* makes sense that the other ruinous powers get mad at you for getting vassals.. I mean.. They all want to be the big boy (or girl), and if you start gathering a bigger following than them, then they will want to knock you down a peg.
