I, Robot - Hitting The Target With the RB-05 Missile

- The Viggen's RB-05 missile is by no means a dumb bomb - but it's also not any smarter than the pilot who has to guide it - which is harder than it looks.

Just keep it between your eyes and the target at all times, making sure your line of sight to the target is obscured by the flare. As I see this is also why it's called the command to the line of sight. MCLOS - manual command to line of sight.
Automatic systems like the Sukhoi-25 Tankovy/Kamov-50's Vikhr paired with Shkval work the same way but just do the pilot's work for him - just put the missile between the viewer and the target automatically by observing the direction of both. ACLOS - automatic command to line of sight.
Meanwhile TOW are SACLOS, so the missile is guided semi-automatically to the line of sight. In this way, the missile guides itself to the center of operator's aimer and operator just establishes what the line of sight to the target is by pointing the aimer to a target. Only needs to automatically measure direction to the missile from the aimer by looking for the light and generating a guidance command from that. SACLOS - semi-automatic command to line of sight.
Just uninformed bookworm takes, no guarantee of accuracy or completeness.
Great vid :D
I had the pleasure of talking to an old Viggen pilot once, apart from the requirement of 1000 launches in a simulator, they also had to do a number of real launches with a slower practice missile before they were allowed to shoot the real deal ^^
Apart from the ground fuse and the sea fuse, it also has a proximity fuse for A-A use. No one quite understood why the attacker variant would ever need to perform CAP or intercept armed with RB05, but the option is there :P
One unqualified guess that I've had is that the missile would probably work quite well to put into a mountain side to bury an invader under an avalanche. I know the army's arctic warfare schools in northern Sweden teach the art of "weaponized avalanches"
Interesting! Thanks for sharing
I’ve used the RB-75 as an anti-helicopter missile, maybe you could use this as the same?
It can be used in the a2a role, but I have not tried it.
Great video again. I really like the way you show the theory, history, and some application. Cool. Too many other content creator lack one or more of this. Especially in the clarity and the practical application. Thanks!
I really appreciate the feedback. That I'd certainly what I'm trying to do. It takes a little longer, but I hope it's worth the effort.
@@Sidekick65 The Mirage is on the shelf or dropped totally?
Not dropped. For sure not dropped. Just competing for space with a bunch if other projects. Is there anything in particular you would like to see?
@@Sidekick65 Nothing particular, just your opinion on the EE.
I will put it on the list.
For some sport, the RB-05 also has an air-to-air mode. Enjoy 🤣
why is only 380p?
Apologies. Uploaded over 6 hours ago. CZcams seems to be having some issues processing the HD version today
I found the missile extremely difficult to control and when I have the option for the RB-75 I just use that. I do feel like I remember using the sight on the right to control the missile instead of eyeballing it like you are doing.
Well, if that's an option it is not mentioned anywhere...
@@Sidekick65 I'll have to do another check and see.
