- In our latest Electronic Beats TV video we speak with Marie Montexier, a german DJ with French roots, nowadays she’s based in Berlin and operating as a resident of the WARNING crew. Beyond her residency, Marie is also bringing her energetic, vinyl focused DJ style to many key festival stages and clubs throughout Europe and further afield across the globe and running the Paryia Records imprint which she launched as a platform for a wide variety of people to release their art.
In this episode, Marie discusses the sustainability and controversy that comes with being a vinyl lover, consumer and producer through her imprint, gets a detailed run down of its production from Nick Hoppner at the Objects Manufacturing pressing plant, and shares with us some of the aspects of electronic music that are important to her such as posing questions around diversity and inclusivity on event line ups, musical output and more.

Sustainability and ecology are a main trend today but the problem is that it's way more complicated than it seems. If Djs don't travel to their audience, it's the audience that is gonna travel to them ( and that is gonna take a lot more planes). If your music is printed on plastic, it's not a problem if it's very good music. It's gonna end in a rare collection, the exact opposite of a trash bin. No need of ecology here, ruthless self-judgment works very well. Booking agents should try to group geographicaly your dates but, again, you don't need an ecological calculation for that. Money, time, necessity to rest and common sense do it very well. Trying to calculate the sum of the relations and consequences of every external factor on a specific phenomenon is very complicated and can easily lead to many involuntary mistakes. I don't try to denigrate the impact of the music industry, but as a Dj, I think you shouldn't worry too much. Keep putting the neddles on the vynils and making smile all the little butterflies...
Ich verstehe ehrlich gesagt die negativen Kommentare hier null! Wie kann man es schlecht finden, wenn sich eine Frau (gäbe ja genug Männer, die das tun könnten) für mehr Nachhaltigkeit und Diversität in der Musikindustrie einsetzt? So many old vinyls changed hands over the last decades till today and are "re-used".. despite the shipping of all these it's pretty sustainable I think 😁

Vinyls are no more unsustainable than today's streaming. Bare in mind all the energy required to maintain server halls that store data that might as well be pressed on vinyl and last like forever.
I'm actually quite sure that it takes a lot of streaming until you reach the amount of energy needed to produce one vinyl.
Internet carbon print is very very low and physical medium doesn't last forever, vinyl, cd, casette tapes wears off over time and degrades.

Was gibts da zu lachen? Geht doch um die Möglichkeit wenn sie denn vorhanden und akzeptabel ist und sie redet von sich, nicht von irgendwelchen Champions League DJs.
Machen wir hier übrigens seit Jahren so mit Hotels wenn wir unterwegs sind und übernachten müssen. Spart auch ne Menge Zeit.
@@ElectronicBeatsTV sehr löblich von euch! :) - betrifft nicht nur "champions league djs"! es gibt etliche agenturen, die auch ihre "newcomer" djs nicht in irgendwelchen absteigen (nur weil sie in klubnähe sind) übernachten oder mit dem regionalzug durch die deutsche provinz fahren lassen wollen. so schauts einfach aus! - ihr kennt doch die bücher von nieswandt, oder !? :D
Ist mir zu schwarz / weiß. Natürlich gibts solche und solche, aber ist doch löblich es nach Möglichkeit so zu machen (wenns nicht nur Bla ist).

I came for the Techno! I got a speech on the environment.. All my life since starting going to all types of raves and parties in 1996 the techno and dance scene has always been extremely inclusive totally free be yourself science type of scene when did it suddenly become some issue that people were not included?
I have literally never heard any of my friends, producers or party organisers or partygoers EVER say that a man producers better music than a women or any other person.
We need to stop trying to convince the youth that there is always something wrong and unjust about what they are doing it will drive them crazy.
Enjoy the music..Enjoy the rave and treat people with respect the way the scene has always been.
Die Szene wird zunehmend von politischem Denken überschattet. Egal wie man Diese Meinung vertreten kann oder möchte. Nix ist mehr ,,heilig,, . Auch nicht der Club, der mal der Ort war, wo große Politische Narrative draußen bleiben durften.
ich verstehe diese diskussionen mittlweile auch nicht (mehr). wir waren "in der szene" in den 1990er schon mal viel weiter.... wo ist das problem? ich bin ratlos... oder zu alt? :D
Wenn du dich nach einer gleichgesinnten Szene sehnst wo Geschlecht, Identität und Konsumkritik absolut keine Rolle spielen und wo das Frühere noch "heilig" gehalten wird, dann empfehle ich das Oktoberfest!

Der Club war für mich per se immer ein gänzlich unpolitscher Ort, wo es völlig wurscht war was für eine politische Meinung man hatte, das gab vielen Leuten in der Tat ein befreiendes Gefühl. Das zusammen Feiern, das Erleben voneinander, die befreite Stimmung hatte ausgereicht um die Gesellschaft insgesamt zu einer Besseren zu gestalten und das ganz nebenbei. Habe in den 90ern erlebt wie aus skins weltoffene Menschen wurden, weil wir uns eben gerade nicht von politischen Narrativen vereinnahmen liessen und diese in Grabenkämpfen vor dem dj Pult ausgekämpft hatten. Es geht im Club um viel mehr. Durch die Kunst, durch das reine Erleben der Extase und des Zusammensein kann ein Mensch automatisch zu einem besseren Menschen verwandelt werden. Das geht aber nicht wenn man den Club idiologisch verbarrikatiert. Führen wir doch bitte die Debatten über Ungerechtigkeiten nicht an Orten die keineswegs dafür bekannt sind ungerecht zu sein.

EB Team: Bitte fokussiert euch auf die Musikproduktion von Künstlern; wenn man in dem Bereich zu wenig zeigen kann, gibt es genug andere, weniger bekannte, aber talentiertere Leute, die es können und ihre Talente dort rein stecken als mit den Leuten zu networken, die die guten Connections in Berlin haben, um über grüne Platten zu philosophieren
Es geht nicht immer um Musikproduktion selbst, auch mal um Ansichten. Ich denke du findest genug anderen Content auf dem Kanal. Da kann auch mal was dabei sein was dir persönlich vielleicht nicht zusagt.
Junge, hau ab aus Techno. Gehörst bestimmt zu den Egobabymännchen, die nicht ertragen können, dass es Frauen gibt, die besser auflegen können als du und deshalb krampfhaft versuchen zu verhindern, dass sich Frauen in der Szene auch was aufbauen können.

Wir sollten alle mehr auf unseren Konsum achten. Wir kaufen ein als ob es kein morgen gibt. Warum nicht auch beim Schallplattenkauf an die Umwelt denken. Am besten vielleicht gar nicht erst soviel schlechte Musik auf Platte pressen. Da wäre der Umwelt wahrscheinlich am meisten geholfen.
@@MG9626 ich wage zu behaupten, dass die server-farmen von spotify und co. die umwelt mehr schädigen als die produktion von schallplatten, die man sich als wertvolles sammlerobjekt in den schrank stellt.
