  • Hi there!
It's been 5 months since my last video (it's been a pretty busy summer at work).
This is my arrangement of the traditional English ballad "Scarborough fair" for 21 string harp guitar.
This instrument was custom built for me by Italian luthier Mauro Marchesini, it's fun to play but very challenging, especially for the right hand but sounds like an orchestra!
The tuning I chose for this tune is (low to high):
    D F G A B C D - D A D G A E - D E F G A B C D with
a capo on the 5th fret.
Recorded at home and mixed and mastered by Jordi Gil at Sputnik Studios.
Please press the HD button for a better audio and video quality (best with headphones for a stereo experience).
This song is dedicated to José María Viejo and his son Darío.
Enjoy and feel free to share!
    Javier

      As
      Sound enters
      Takes its rightful place
      The journey of serenity
The Pluck s of melodious beauty
      Rolling the waves of
      Appreciation
      Swelling the heart with delight
      Of this gift that
      Is ours ... to savour

Is anyone else amazed by the sheer amount of hand-eye coordination this man is showing off here. I mean he's literally playing three different and differently tuned instruments all in one body. and he has to keep track of all of them AND he's finger picking with his entire right hand. This is mental...

I have always held that a great performance isn't one that has the crowd cheering even before then, that has them surging to their feet immediately at the end of the performance with wild abandoned applause. A truly great performance is one that leaves the audience in totally shocked silence, unable to know quite how to respond to the magnitude of what they had just been transformed to witness. At the end of this rendition of Scarborough Fair, I sat in silence. Bravo.

This has to be the most beautiful version of "Scarborough Fair" in the key of D minor, I ever heard. It sounds like a Medieval composition from old England. The harp guitar is such a wonderfully created type of guitar. I would think if you already know how to play a regular guitar, you can certainly play this one also. The sound is so heavenly. This version can sound nice on the piano too. Very nice job Javier!!! Many blessings!!!

I grew up with my parents listening to the simon and garfunkel version of this song on easy listening radio back int he late 70's early 80's. I always thought the song was called rosemary and thyme. This is a wonderful rendition-very beautiful sound on that harp guitar.

Wow. Absolutely beautiful. I can always tell if I really like something when I have to listen to it several times over. Nice instrument, great playing, and a superb arrangement. I especially liked the high register strings that aren't on most harp guitars. I didn't even see them there until you played that middle section. Thanks for sharing this!
