During its existence, the fort was used as a prison 4 times over the centuries. At its peak, it was home to the largest known prison in the world and infamous for its cruelty and inhumane treatment of its inmates and the conditions they had to suffer. Today, it easily makes the Top 5 for tourism sites in Ireland. Join me and explore the Alcatraz of Ireland.

I was locked up on Spike island 83/84, when I was leaving having done my time a guard said to me ,"don't look back because if you do you will be back, well it's been 40 years now since I left and I feel the time is right to go back, but this time as a tourist..PS I did look back as I exited that gate all those years ago.
