Innovative Home Design for All Seasons: The Wanaka Urban Retreat | SKI House

This house, located within walking distance of Wanaka's urban center, serves as an adaptable retreat for the client who has lived on the site for over two decades. As Wanaka evolved into a bustling urban area and tourist destination, the client envisioned an intergenerational home adaptable to the town's growth. The house offers a blend of formality and fluidity, with distinct seasonal experiences. In winter, a dark mudroom transitions into a bright, view-filled interior, while in summer, stone steps lead to gardens and a central courtyard. The use of natural materials creates a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces. The design balances openness and privacy through solid geometric forms and a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, making it an urban sanctuary amid Wanaka’s evolving landscape.
