There are other performances, good performances, to be seen, but Marianne Crebassa brings to this role not only her stunningly beautiful voice, but a dignity and depth of feeling such that one feels the loss, despair, and utter grief of the character she portrays.
In the moment, she is the very soul of Orfeo, and nothing but our tears suffice to salute the accomplishment.

her french is perfectly understandable.. which is rare in bel canto. And that includes french singers, of course
I thought that the only one who has claimed this aria for their own was Kasarova ...until now. She definitely has a rival in Crebassa. What a stunningly beautiful voice.
