The meta is very hostile to spice
We see lots of people running very similar teams over and over

Like it or not it’s only going to get harder to climb. The player base is more informed than ever and is playing better than ever. You’re not going to run in to many people over 2300 elo that don’t know how to throw on proper timing and manage energy. On top of that the algorithm is brutal. “Oh you did really bad yesterday? Here’s 5 easy sets.” Next day “here, have 20 out of 25 be hard counter teams.”
i hate the meta, but also charizard counters the counters, and skarmory, it almost always has a place but everyone should have an answer to flyers period

Lol, me to. So often in this season. For example yesterday evening in Ultra L. At 2500 Elo (i was at 2714 and fall down in fu**ing jungle cup). First Set. 5:0. Yeah, fight back. Lets go. Next Set: 1:4. Ok, i hate this game ;) Every Pokemon of my team was hard countered. I dont know what happens, but this Season is so difficult. Today, you wil get 80 Points and tomorrow you lose 100. Others are climbing and yourself stand on the spot. No matter what you play. Best format this season (for me) was ultra L. premier.
Great rant, I always dig your takes Sass. People that have access to scanners also have a massive advantage, then you double that with the fact that scanners are typically only in bigger cities where the spawns are denser... Rural players are at a huge disadvantage. I feel you with the shift from getting worked up to just not caring and good for you for not letting Niantic's constant mismanagement of the game affect you. I'm in the same boat, I used to hit leaderboards consistently now I rarely even want to queue up. Thanks for another season of scald, Niantic 🤡

I stopped caring after COVID. Everything we used to do together in the game got thrown aside to the point that no one wants to really raid in person any more. Trains are by car not on foot like we used be able to do and no one really meets up just to play together, never mind raids. The grind got way too time consuming and I have way more fun things to do...like grind for Yokai medals in Final Fantasy 14 for in game items at the cost of a monthly sub that's worth more than any ticket Niantic has hawked.

Once again you're not a lone... Lol. Im always going 3-2 and 2-3. Once a day ill get a 4-1 or 5-0 and once i do i go 0-5 or 1-4 every fkn time! Absolutely wild. I cant even hardly break vet this season. Idk bro this season is nargly!

@@Sassifrass I don't really play anymore but it always puts on a lit of pressure when I do. Gets its charge attacks so quickly and they disrupt really well

If youre going to try guzzlord, i use guzz, mantine, shadow tentacruel or guzz, annihilape, charjabug

I only like GBL with spicy teams cause then I don't care when I lose. When I play to win like using the top meta pokemon, I begin to HATE it, it gets so boring. Umbreon is so boring to play against, so is Azumarill, Registeel was a bane for me, now I've got my own one, I get hard countered all the time!! ugh
I agree. And Yeah that is a good point. Playing meta gets stale quick, especially in a blind format.
Ive always ran spice and hovered around 2300, but this season im getting put in my place 😅

I’ve used Guzzlord, but with Brutal Swing. What do you make of the tradeoff for the extra energy cost for Crunch?
A bit more damage and a chance to lower defense, haha, but tbh Brutal Swing works!
