How to Tone Extensions to Match your Hair Perfectly!

- How to tone and shade extensions at home. I'm using Bellami extensions, with lace clips. ash blonde in #60 18 inch. Toning shampoo, shimmer lights by clairol. I also recommend the joico toning shampoo.
So In this video I show how to fix one of the most frustrating things to do with extensions. Finding the perfect shade to match your hair. To do so I use a toning shampoo which delivers a lot of purple pigments to leave the hair with beautiful ash tones. This has been what I found works best so thought I would share. It is easier just to put the purple shampoo in a big pot of water (or fill up your sink). Dunk the extensions in there. You get coverage all over. The wefts absorb as well. You can dunk as man times as you need to get the color you want. When I buy really cheap extensions, I let it sit in the sink for an hour or more.

I adore your hair color. I am slowly lightening my hair to get to that color. I love the shimmer lights. It helps keep my highlights fairly bright and definitely helps remove some of the more brassy tones. Just a quick question.... what is the eyeshadow you used in this video? I know it is off topic from what the video is about, but it is so pretty. Thanks! :)
Great video! Can I use the Naissant toning conditioner as well? How long would I leave that in the extensions? You are my guru, Silvia. I would've never even tried extensions if it wasn't for you. Now at 62 years old I'm wearing them for the first time!

Thank god i looked at the comments on this! Alright everyone so not sure if they changed something in their hair product but you ONLY LEAVE THE PURPLE SHAMPOO ON FOR A COUPLE SECONDS MAX!!! Or it will turn your blonde hair purple. Go little by little and if you need to you can always tone it again.
Can I do this on tape in extensions before I put them in my hair?

Hi! I had a question I hope you can help me with! I have extensions that are around a 4 or 5 brown but they have a hue of auburn that I hate. I want them to be more ash. I actually put a 8ash and a 10 neutral ash demi on them last night, it took maybe a tiny bit of the red away but what could i put on them while keeping the integrity of the hair good? Thanks in advance!!

Hi Silvia, wondered if you could answer a tech question for me?? Can you tell me in an "idiots guide" style what, if any, is the difference to oxidant creams and hydrogen peroxide in relation to using it for toners. I have a Loreal Dialight 10.12 and guy at Sallys told me to get the cheap generic 3% HP to use with it but in the instructions it mentions about Loreal Oxidant product. He told me not to get a large bottle as it goes off pretty quick, so more eco to get small generics. Is this right? What is the difference, and is the stuff I got ok?? What is the easiest and best way to brighten hair extensions? I have extensions that have an orange tint to them and they're about a shade dark when I try to use the purple shampoo to tone them. I don't want to damage them by bleaching. Any ideas??
I bought mocha brown hair extensions at Luxy. It's a bit "warmer" than my natural hair. My natural hair is a dark brown, but a little more ashy. What's the best way to fix this problem?
Excellent tips! I use the Shimmer Lights red shampoo on my blonde hair (which I am panicked about as I heard they are discontinuing the red!!!) but that makes complete sense to use it on extensions as well. Great tips. ♥ Elle

The best thing I've found for toning bleached extensions is Roux Fanci-Full color mousse in 2 to 3 different shades of blonde to blend them. It's an old school product but it works beautifully. (not associated in any way). Thanks Silvia, I thought I was the only one having problems matching extensions with toner and color.

My extensions are super bright platinum, but my natural hair is more of a silver-blonde color. So I feel like the extensions stick out like a sore thumb! 😑 Will purple shampoo help tone them down?

Hi I washed my extensions with purple shampoo for three minutes and it turned them grey what do I do?
I've bought two packages of Bellimi hair extensions in the brightest blonde because my hair is almost white-blonde and I cannot seem to tone these properly. I've used both Unite Blonda Shampoo and AG Silver Shampoo. The hair refuses to go to the blonde that I am and I'm using the same technique you mentioned. I'm so lost as to what to do!
I know you put this up FOUR YEARS ago and no one answered you, that is soooooo rude! We follow and share and support to get ignored? So, darling, IF you are still out there, how did you make out? Did Purple shampoo work? Did a specific brand work? I’m not a shimmering lights girl. It’s yucky. Just need to get the brass out and get my extensions to ice vs butter lol. Not only are the extensions not ashy enough for me....I have problems with every brand because my hair is only heavily foiled so there is dimension of other tones throughout my hair from years of foiling mixed with my natural hair color.....solid colored extensions just don't look that realistic mixed in with my hair!! I have tried so many brands. I am taking the newest ones I have to my stylist to see if maybe lowlights and toning will work. Have you done this?? xo
I would suggest giving the extensions a bit of a darker root to match the darkest part of your hair. Lo lighting extensions I think end up making them look a little stringy. Thanks for watching as always, hope this helps

Stephanie Villafana clarifying shampoo should help! just make sure you deep condition afterwards, since it's pretty drying.
iv got #60 real hair extentions which are ashy ..how can I remove the ash?? so they are more a platinum colour??

How do you get your hair like flipped away from ur face?
chelseacoleman22 just realised this is from 5 years ago but better late than never lol. it’s just a straightener and bend it away from your face. so start at the root with the front pieces and bend the straightener forwards while pulling in a backwards motion. it sounds and looks complex but i promise it really isn’t!!

My extensions took all the color in like 2 minutes!!!! They are silvery and don’t match my creamy white hair 😩

I did this and over toned my extensions, my ends are white/grey...how do I add more golden tones back into them?
Wash the extensions with head and shoulders shampoo to correct the color. :)
