Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!" - Zábava
As an Australian, I'm *thrilled* that he's out there debunking that bogus "shrimp on the barbie" phrase. Doing good work. The work of a goddamn hero.
it sounds like shrimp torture, it's horrible. (proceeds to boil crab alive)
Yes, it's terrible - I do not endorse the practice.
Absolutely. Couldn't agree more.
Do Americans sprint up to Australians full speed ahead in tacky Hawaiian shirts saying shit like "CRIKEY, YOU WANNA PUT SHRIMP ON THE BARBIE MATE!" in their worst, hackneyed, impression, of an Australian accent?
Like we need ideas to make ourselves look retarded on the international level.
Yass Liam! Bloody prawns! Not shrimp! Representing us Aussies like a bawse! 🇦🇺👌🏻
Yeah, I'm sure that the whole prawn/shrimp debate is the most valued international debate Australians want to have.
+kanua5 for sure! 😂
It actually is though. That and the proper way to eat Vegemite.
Vegemite is utter shite. Marmite all the way.
It's pretty much the same thing, just the brand name, here in s.africa we get marmite (being unilver I think), as well as bovril, which is like a beef version, watch charlize explain it on fallon
He deserves many more hit movies. Such a wonderful person.
"Prawns in the boiling water" doesn't roll off the tongue nearly as well as "shrimp on the barbie"
"Prawns on the boil" eh?
Prawn in the pot?
but we're not Canadian though. eh
WAs about to type that
To all you Americans Canadians and European’s yes that’s how we do it.
I put shrimp on the barbie... then again, I'm not Australian, and people typically look at me weirdly for putting shrimp on my sister's old Barbie dolls.
funniest comment I've seen so far.
The1AndOnlyGoldenboy listen!!!! I thought that's what he meant, what the title meant, until he fully said barbeque!!! I was so confused!
The1AndOnlyGoldenboy AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA YES
I don't think so, but there is a difference between shrimp & prawns, shrimp are a size smaller being the main difference, as well as a miniscule difference between their actual 'being', genetically, they're not exactly from the same family I think, like there is a slight difference between crayfish & lobster
Had no clue what the fuck was going on until I read your comment and realized that you were joking...I am french Canadian so it's my first time hearing "barbie" did not know it meant barbecue :(
hes probably bored of talking about his brothers
Yeah, he looks annoyed/uncomfortable.
its just the usual questions he gets lol
I'm not so sure, they have a very close-knit, happy family. Would you get sick of talking about your loved ones?
Mia Vigil I expect most good-natured people would accept it as par for the course in the celebrity context. What else could you do except throw your toys out of the pram every time and get labelled a grouch or up yourself?
Livechio they rehearse so the questions are pre approved
"Do you still have the queen on your money?"
"Yeah, we do..."
"Then you're not independent."
Burn.
damn site more tasteful than 200 year old racists! boom!
They're both rather shit.
Typical ignorant arrogance
warmlittlediamond Still better than having Trump leading your country
I'm Australian
his laugh is EVERYTHING
"You gotta fight your way through life..."😂😂😂😂
Prawns on the boiley
Tht guy on u pict watch deep blue sea i cryes
Prawns on the boiley & bangers on the barbie :)
Bangers? ....how about snags?
Thank you Liam! Hearing someone say "Put another shrimp on the Barbie" hurts me more than any of our deadly snakes or spiders ever could
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
YES! 👌😂
They'd be a lot closer with "Put another snag on the barbie"! So frustrating.
+Julie Jenkins totally
Is it sad that I had nooo idea what "Barbie" meant until I put context clues together and realized it could mean barbecue😫😫😫😫 I'm American and never heard of Barbie except for the dolls
“Standing clap” 😂😂😂
Stand and clap 🇦🇺👍
Australians have the best accents
I I we sure do mate
The Kiwi accent is even better. Sorry, I meant Thi Kiwi Iccint Is Ivin Bittir.
Jim awww thanks Jimmy
Yes we do :)
Thanks mate, the Aussies agree (Me included)
liam's laugh is so adorable
I'm Australian and have never heard of anyone bbq'ing prawns. They're boiled and served cold with prawn cocktail sauce. Another popular thing is garlic prawns, but they're fried in a frypan with butter and garlic.
His giggle is too cute
Liam is such a cool guy.
I wish he was my boyfriend!!
Miley Cyrus doesn't deserve him
your body is hoot
WHY ARE YOU EVERYWHERE LOL
+andreaabro And who the fuck are you to say that? Miley is probably a much better person than you'll ever be.
Every Australian right now is just clapping for Liam, thanking him for dispelling the shrimp on the barbie myth
I love liam Hemsworth and Australian accents
On behalf of all Aussies, Thankyou Liam Hemsworth!
Clearing this up for the rest of the world... We hate it when people say, "Shrimp on the Barbie" -_-
“Bless your soul” 😂
Why do I love Australians so much man?
Put another prawn in the boily!
I love Liam. Such a great sense of humor.
hahaha love liams aussie vocab
***** not even bloody close mate
Drabswin definately called the cowards punch.
I've attended countless Aussie barbies. Never seen anyone throw prawns on them. My personal preference is fresh cooked prawns with some Thousand Island dressing, especially on Christmas Day while we try not to melt.
Unpopular opinion: Liam's more handsome than Chris
❤❤❤True..Chris has little eyes.😮
Lmao "I Dont Want To Hear It Anymore!" He Stated Angrily. Thanks For That One Sir Stephen Colbert.
It's actually kinda funny that the whole "shrimp on the barbie" thing was started by Paul Hogan (an Aussie), in an American commercial promoting tourism in Australia 😂
I find it even more funny that as for the marketing agency who were promoting the Australian commercial, they had to use the word 'shrimp' instead of 'prawn' because it was understood that the general American population wouldn't understand what a prawn was.
Had to dumb it down to appeal to the Yanks and make it relatable for them even though we NEVER use the phrase and never have.
Rach Kate damn who’s the dumb and ignorant one being hateful just because a different country doesn’t use the same wording? Shrimps and prawns are two different animals btw 👏🏼
For some ignorant Americans, 90% of all the Aussie stereotypes that they know comes from two sources: Crocodile Dundee and the Crocodile Hunter. So yes, as true as your statement is, it's also very sad, lol.
Kit Marcos yea yea do honestly think people actually believe that aussies just throw shrimps on barbies all day or do you realize it’s a joke
6 years old actor , then 20 years latter Independence Day resurgence 🐎
Now I finally have time to watch this show to hear 👂 actors words .
How awesome 👏
Liam, I'm Australian, living in America for 30 years - and I've ALWAYS told that truth about NO SUCH THING as "shrimp on the barbie" giving that exact same explanation that you did - and Americans look at me sideways. Thank you for spreading the truth!
He finally said it! No one says throw another shrimp on the barbie, ever!
I drink Fosters. So that's true. And we had two death by shark in one week in Perth just last Month.
I have never seen anyone drink fosters ever and live in perth
Ben stevenson I would also like to add, I have never seen a single Australian drink Foster's, and I mean like 90% of us drink lol.
I know, I live here too
his laugh makes me happy
Useful and amusing Aussie slang expression I just found: "FIGJAM: Fuck I'm Good; Just Ask Me. Nickname for people with a high opinion of themselves." Also used ironically when completing a task.
They love slang. Where'd you hear that?
My Physics teacher last year had a mug with that on it. I'm in New Zealand though.
That's not really accurate, there was a song called FIGJAM that stood for that. It was an expression that lasted maybe a year almost a decade ago. I don't think most of my friends would understand if I said Figjam.
FIGJAM is a great expression, though you mostly only hear it as an in-joke (Aussie hip hop)
hip hop my arse, we were saying FIGJAM more than 30 years ago ... shit, I had FIGJAM socks back in 85 and it was an old phrase even then ....
I never understood why they didnt make it "we'll put another snag on the barbie for ya". We say that a lot. Shrimp is not even a word here.
cause we had to target the American audience with something they would relate to hahahh
they dont even know a thing about sausage sizzles,
What's a snag?
@@maeganlozano7058 a sausage sandwich, on bread and bbq sauce
@@kelse2785 shame that they can’t say here’s another word for y’all to learn (prawn) so if you do go to the land down under you will know what a shrimp is called there, I was talking to a primary school teacher over in the states in 1999 and she said it’s a shame that the learn next to nothing about the rest of the world , and because we have so much American TV movies we learn about there country by default
OMG THANKYOU LIAM! lol. I HATE 'Shrimp on the barbie!'. Try steak or snags on the barbie. Prawns are usually drenched in tartare sauce and eaten within moments of deshelling :P
he is actually a vegan - get mad
@@row0111 😆
No tartar sauce for me it kills the sweet flavour of the prawns. Just squirt of lemon juice over them to sweeten the meat. Or if it's Christmas my Mum's rose seafood sauce on the side.
@S Wright Tartar sauce is for fish the best thing to put on chips is a bit of brown vinegar. If still you want something creamy on them. Then try a bit of Japanese mayonnaise it doesn't over power the chips like tartar sauce does.
Someone needed to tell them that we don’t call it shrimp...about time!
1:45 This dude is even too handsome to have a crush on. I just watch him for aesthetic purposes.
🤣😂
"I don't want you to drown in an inch of water" Stephen roasted that poor guy.
Samuel McInerney You,must be joking. Or jealous.
ROTFLMAO! & yet Australia has some of the best surfers & swimmers in the world.
Mate, we say put a shrimp on the barbie as an insult, mate, we know mate... mate.
11 Siblings? Did his family sing "Every sperm is sacred" every time they dropped a new kid? Catholics man
LOLLL "every sperm is sacred" 😂 I'm Catholic myself and that was funny
It's a Monty Python reference.
My mom is one of 10
Damn 11 siblings...?? Damnnn
kariiiinaxoxo I’m Catholic too and this is hilarious! 😂 I’m the third of nine kids in my family!
It all depends on where you live. I was born and raised in Melbourne (in the suburbs) and I have never seen a snake, crocodile or a deadly spider in my entire life. The only spiders I've come across are those daddy long legs ones and they're pretty cool cause they don't do anything. If you live in the country, outback or rural/remote areas, then you will definitely come across them more often.
his humor is so dry, it;s fucking fantastic!! Liam might actually be the best Hemsworth.
Well he did say here that his brothers put him in the dryer so...
2:47 - One of my favourite thing about being an Australia, is our love for bullshitting people (the dangerous wildlife, and dropbears)
Watch the video of old mate getting eaten by the great white off sydney,
Lol I''m just jumping around videos about different late shows and different hemsworth
I'm Australian and I didn't even know what a shrimp was when I first heard the word. So yeah he's right.
I'm from New Zealand and we have both shrimps and prawns. I have no Idea what the difference is between them.
Shrimps are the little ones often used in Chinese dishes. Prawns are what we mostly eat in Oz.
@@carokat1111 Oh, ok. Thanks
I thought a prawn was a bug, or is that south africa im thinking of
I was thought shrimp was a smaller prawn but I don’t eat shrimp and I’ve never ever seen someone put on the bbq ever .
my sister: oh hey it’s thor
me: don’t just don’t
I love his chuckle-y laugh! 😊 U-huh-huh-huh-huh 😃😆😄
I love the Australian phrases and mannerisms 😍💘
dingos ate moi bayyybeee
+Steven Moore omg yes it's ridiculous 😂
OMG, that accent was freaking cringeworthy!! They reckon Aussies are bad at yank accents. Why on earth didn't they get an Aussie to play that role?
slimeronio ...uh i believe *deengoes* is the word you're looking for sir...
Put the prawn in the pot!
Red prawns in the potty
Dont forget we have drop bears that also attack you!😉
Totally missed!! We love our drop bears lol!!
Lol I actually really liked this interview...
This interview was hysterical
Lol true how did 'shrimp on the barby' even start in Australia. We don't even say shrimp. Although sometimes I put prawns on the barby
I post in a FB group with a bunch of Aussies. Once I jokingly asked if they still eat "shrimp on the barbie"...they took the piss out of me. I learned my lesson ;)
Australia basically became Independent in 1901 but technically we didn't. Still, our government doesn't ask for the queen's advice in the matter of law making ect anymore so thats Independent to me
Actually we still get the queens stamp of approval and she had the power to dissolve parliament etc basically she can pull the mum card if we get to mental or she really doesnt like a law or whatever we pass. The governer general speaks on her behalf i think atm its julie bishop anyway shes consider the queens rep and gives the crown stamp of approval but nowadays it is mostly formality and the queen doesnt really exercise the power at all more like a figurehead but you know its not a bad thing and id still say where independant being in alliance under the commonwealth like canada doesnt make us less independant it just makes us smarter not to burn our bridges for the sake of 'freedom' or the illusion of independence. No nation of earth is ever truly independent will all rely on the same earth and people to make our lives worth existing. Our money with the queen on it is the best in the world technologically its easy to use and the hardest to counterfeit.
@@EmmaAppleBerry you need to take another look at our money lol
“ BLESS YOUR SELF 🦦”
If anything it.should be snag on a Barbie as in a sausage. Good old bunnings sausage sizzle is a weekend tradition here.
Handsome with a good personality!
They make us tough in the outback 😂😂
pawn in the boiler!~
AS an Australian I am so happy someone said this
I so agree with him!😅
You tell them Liam 😂❤️
As a fellow Aussie, it rly pisses me off, too how people think we actually say 'throw a shrimp on the barbie'. Like, no they are called prawns for crying out loud. 😂😂
king prawns, now that's where its at!
Bloody Legend
Prawn NOT shrimp! Much love from Brisbane x
Hemsworth , Good looking Brothers!❤️
i love you Liam you're the best!!
PREACH!

MOOSEKNUCKLE
Freeballing. Another Australian way of life.
Prawn on the boil
dude... he's packing...
Hahahahah I really liked this.
Golden prime time opportunity to tell a big chunk of Sepposlovakia that absolutely NO ONE drinks bloody Fosters!!!
hahaha love the Hemsworths... actually went to my secondary school. A little worried about the reunion :s What have you done with yourself for the last 20 years? :s
YESS LIAM ITS A PRAWN NOT A FLIPPING SHRIMP
Lola Jenkinson you speak the American lamguage, in America shellfish like that are called Shrimps, therefore you should call them shrimps, jeez, I wish all these countries using our language would stop making their own words.
Lola Jenkinson Australian call it Prawn and Shrimp
Prawn and shrimp are different
@@stephaniejohnson2404 a prawn is larger isn't it?
Preach it Liam
*These brothers should be called "Handsworth" not Hemsworth because they are handsome and they are worthy.*
I love barbied prawns boiling em cooks the flavour out
AWESOME!
Lol.His accent is so on point I can’t take anything he says seriously 😂
He's partly joking anyway. But to Australians American accents sound pretty funny as do some other accents.
Put a prawn in the pot sounds way cooler
totally agree
Where's the rest of the interview?
His laugh
Yep fellow Aussie here and we don't have shrimps on the bbq. Our barbies consist of sausages steak chicken sticks lamb chops.
We eat prawns but never on the bbq
I'm in Melbourne and it's not that friggen deadly
I went to Melbourne and Sydney in February/2018. I LOVED both cities! The Aussies I met were INCREDIBLY nice and SUPER Down to Earth! BUT I give the edge to Melbourne ;)
@ 0:48 that is an australian condescinding act
He's beardalicious
Sounds way more awesome to say, "Throw some prawn in the boiler!"
STRAYA!!!
I suppose you wouldn't put shrimp on the barbie... until you've experienced the slice of Heaven that is grilled garlic ginger shrimp skewers.
Liam Hemsworth: "We don't say shrimp, we call them prawns. And we don't even barbecue them, people typically boil 'em"
Me: *Toss some prawns in the pot, mate*
you coming the raw prawn mate?
Chris seems a lot brighter than Liam
Well... He's older.
So, "Throw another prawn in the boiler"?
Where’s my aussies at lol
LOEV U LIAM!
Shrimp on the barbie more like prawns on the boiler!
