    At around 35:30 I landed 80 horseman 5 trebs and 20 handcannons in avely's base, got the tc with king inside and hit it to like 60 hp till it got into the landmark. Legally blind indeed haha

    This makes me so hyped, the 8 man FFAs are so fun to watch. For the whole in-game chat maybe you could do like you did in the past and have someone in game provide the chat? There is alot of context to how the game progresses and fun interactions that is missed without it.

    Love the new rules. The mods make this so different from the first one and the inclusion of a king almost makes it feel like a campaign. Loved this match and can't wait to watch more

    Can't wait for this next season! One thing to consider is it is anti-climatic when a player surrenders. I felt this took away from the some of the fun of the games last season and felt the same with Beasty this game. An idea to consider is having a small penalty for player who surrenders before being eliminated or a small bonus at the end of the game for players who didn't surrender (ex. + or - .5 points). The point value should be small but meaningful when it might decide a tiebreaker for who makes the finals. Otherwise, can't wait for the new season to kick off and excited for the new rules.

      Would be cool for king to be a hero like unit. Just like in real life, you get a massive moral boost but if he dies, you lose.

    I am soooo freaking excited. 2 suggestions I have:
    I think that finding enemy kings is way too cheap at 400 gold, it would be good for it to be more expensive.
    50+ population seems insane, someone fighting 200 pop against 250 just has almost no chance late game. I think +30 pop would be plenty of insentive but wouldn't make it completely impossible to come back from. I think without this you will have the players who did well early just taking over the map 1 by 1 and then winning an easy wonder victory against only 1 other player. It's a great insentive but I think it will ruin some of the likelyhood of huge comebacks.

      Completely agree, especially as we've seen multiple times someone getting 2 early kills and almost every game 2 players spawn next to each other, so 1 kill is for sure in feudal.
      Make it 15 pop, it's not insignificant, but you really need like 2 kills for a string advantage.
      Then there should be no option to locate enemy kings whatsoever. Cocroaching was the most fun part of the last tournament for me really and I'd be particularly interested to see how players can creatively hide their kings.
      If there is a payment for it, at least make it to discover a specific players king, not all of them, so there's tactics involved.

      50 pop feels fair to me. You have to consider that in FFA any fight with another player is a lose-lose situation from every aspect. You lose resources not just by fighting but also the potential returns those resources could have given you from investing them into your eco. You open yourself up to getting cleaned up by a third party, who could even sweep both you and your opponent after you've exhausted each other. And then, you also have to consider the aggression you attract from other players for even winning. They know your weakened from the war, that winning could have netted you a bunch of space and resources to gather, and makes it more likely you get teamed up on. Not to mention you'll have gained some precious points, meaning that eliminating you becomes a bigger priority simply so you can't build a bigger lead point-wise.
      Also, it would only be a huge advantage in a 1v1. In a FFA it means less because any cooperation between two players, even just opportunistic attacks, it going to put you at disadvantage. And you would never get to snowball like that, as the other players would recognize what's going on and invoke one of the teaming rules, meaning even with the pop cap you'll be at disadvantage against the teams of players.
      That was something I didn't like in the last FFA - that basically any time someone caused enough of a ruckus to anger two players, they lost. They just can't handle that many units from possibly multiple flanks without a ridiculous amount of defensive structures and even then it's a tossup. Just my thoughts.

    Such a fucking good game/cast Drongo good to see the FFA back! I think 20-30 pop increase for a kill could be more ideal to avoid too much snowballing/lag but the 50 was still super entertaining!

    There could NOT have been a more hype game to promote OO season 2! What a fantastic showing. I think the extra pop from kills should be around 30 though and you should also consider keeping landmark victory as well as having king. Would be nice to have a more raid-boss style king though with a damage buff/reduce aura. Maybe it would be a nice tradeoff between keeping him safe and using him to get an edge in fights

    Haven’t see it just quite yet but I can’t even tell you how excited I am for this game and Outback Octagon 2 My brother and I would watch the games like every time they came out as if it were NHL Playoffs. Go Don Artie, the True FFA King. Much love from Canada.❤
    Edit: just watched the game and while I am sad Giga chat don artie went out third, the new rules feel really cool, although I would like a separate video detailing them, and even maybe a weekly vid covering the leader board. Can’t wait for the real thing but I would like more of these “test games” tbh because this game was so fkin exciting.

    Hey Drongo. So glad to see octagon 2. First part was my favorite aoe tournament. I have some balance suggestions. 50 pop per kill seems like a lot. Makes it very easy to snowball. I'd say 35-40 would be better? Also, one consolation point or so for being alive at the end of the game would be nice. Give some crumbs to the roaches

    Maybe for the subcategory winners you eventually make it a more involved process like voting for the all star game. Instead of "judges", you nominate the top 3 moments by subcategory (sacred site, king snipe,etc) and have 3 voting groups. In-tourny players, Casters/Distinguished members(the equivalent of judges) and the views/community. With some of the bigger streamers getting more popularity votes assuming they are nominated can be a challenge, but that is why you have 3 tiers weighted evenly.

    Hey Drongo, i think giving everyone’s king an ability to activate a short period of invulnerability might be better (only one chance per game). This way it creates much more plot in the game and allow players to make mistakes. Also when a player’s sacred or wonder count down is activated his king shouldn’t be able to activate this ability

      Also maybe it’s possible to let kings give strong AOE buffs to nearby units when he is not garrisoned? This way players might take that risk and the game is more intense to watch

    Was so bummed to see beasty get done so quick but damn, Averly really held them off. Can't help but feel that Averly should have just produced a scout or 2 before laying down a proxy siege attack on MarinelorD's base. Core's defense was amazing too. Such a cool game.

    As a recommendation, I may say that the king might need some rework... maybe starting with 300/1 armor instead of 200/0 and making him to shadow tech through ages until he have 750/4 or something like that.
    Imperial units vs a 200/0 unit is just insta kill or snipe.

    Beautiful game. Loved the Outback Octagon, and I'm looking forward to Season 2 :) I remember there being a lot of confusion during the final games because of rule changes between games. I hope the rules will be clearer from the very beginning this time, so far they sound good.

    Suggestion: Give the king massive area of effect buffs according to the ages, so that fighting in the imperial age becomes fun!
    Something like
    1. Attack speed 5%/10%/15%/20% or
    2. Meelee armour 2/4/6/8 or
    3. Ranged armour 1/2/3/4 or
    4. Movement speed 0.3/0.6/0.9/1.2 or
    5. Meelee damage 4/8/12/16 or
    6. Ranged damage 2/4/6/8 or
    7. Torch damage 7/14/21/28, etc.
    You can either make them according to different civs or the player can choose at the start of each game.
    It'll be fun since people would be willing to take a gamble in late game. Also increase the health of the king at each age 200/300/400/500.
    This would prevent early snipes and enable the king to fight late game.
    All those who liked the idea please like this comment so that it reaches Drongo!

    I played this mod with some friends and it was super fun. Great concept! We had a slight issue using this mod on Black Forest where a villager for one player and a king for another spawned in the middle of trees.

    This looks fun to play even for casual players. I hope that the modders keep improving it and make it available for all. Anyways, I had a suggestion, I wish that the King gives some advantages while fighting, high risk high reward. I have a crazy idea: Enemy villagers dying in a certain radius of the king respawn as your own villagers in your main TC. And goodluck for the tourney.

    Can't wait to hear more details about what is and what isn't teaming in the tournament, was weird watching MrMunch leave holes in his walls for coRe's traders so they could both rush imp with a non-aggression pact, right before red died he ran his king into coRe's base and core didn't even take the king kill.

      Since I'm not playing in the event I wasn't fully aware of all of the rules. This was a for fun game to test the mod, and I've played FFA's with the crew a bunch of times, and didn't realize Outback Octagon 2 has a 'no alliance' rule. I was playing it like a normal FFA. Core and I negotiated in chat in game that I wouldn't attack his trade, but if I had known about the +50 population rule I would've backstabbed his ass 🙂he had no leverage.
      That being said, the 'no alliance' rule is pretty gray. Not sure how non aggression pacts will be considered.

    Loved this!!! First viddy I felt super duper compelled to comment (mostly b/c my opinion is prolly irrelevant), but the only addition I would have like to see would be some small ability utility from the kings, maybe an invuln or a short speed boost ability? Either way. The incentive given to the players made this sooo enjoyable to watch. Thanks for sharing!

    I like the new rules, I think the pop cap reward is great, if you're concerned about it then could maybe just do +25 per kill or something like that. But honestly that game was beautiful and I think the mechanic would work well, as you said anybody could have attack mlord or Avely right after their first kills and been rewarded themselves

    Super happy to see the Outback Octagon back 👍🏻 Love the new rules, I think 50 population for each kill is a reasonable amount.
    I think it could be nice if your first treason ability would be cheaper and use all your starting gold. That way, you would have the chance to use it at the beginning of the game, scout where other players are and maybe get a better spot. However, you would then be behind because your first age up is delayed...

    I have only one idea as far as the rules go. Once the tournament starts, DO NOT change the rules.
    The last time around it felt like it took all the fun out of it for both the viewers and the players.

    Hi, I love the new rules. 1. What about if you get half the loot of the defeated? Like half their gold. Loot can be distributed amongst the building and landmarks of the defeated. So, by destroying their buildings you get their loot. Kind of like the Mongols. (Mongols will get their standard razing bonus plus loot). 2. Beasty surrendered instead of letting his king die. Does that change how the points are distributed or who gets the 50-pop added? 3. When a player is eliminated the UI and get expanded as we dead players stats become irrelevant. And the UI becomes dead space. Anyhow this is already a hit. So exciting! I can't wait for the tournament.

    The outback octagon match that was mainly a water map with a bunch of islands and people were water trading the entire map length and the giant plus shaped map one that I think was titled snoopa's migration were my absolute favourite pro games I have ever watched if not fav aoe4 games I have ever watched! Would love to see another couple good water maps this time :D, also the map were I think it was Don Artie dug behind a massive forest on the edge of the map and was just hiding back there was also such a memorable one!

    Just finished watching, really nice game to watch. My only other comment for maybe a rule is a bonus points for kills within the first hour of the game. Don't know how much a problem it is with the new rules.
    But that was one of my complaints from season 1 was the extra long games.
    Also might need a few more test games to see if 50 extra pop is too much, maybe 25.
    However it dose increases your chance of winning if you do kill someone early so it is worth keeping.
    With the king, is there a way to protect it more in late game so that it's not a 1 second kill with a few units

    A problem I see comes from rewarding points and population for just regicide. Marine lord almost got gypped here. Recon realized he was about to die so he correctly runs away with his king. It’s fun and exciting to watch the chase, but it would have felt cheap if the bombard tower got the kill rather than marine lord. He obviously earned the point and pop space, and both nearly went to another player who did nothing to help.
    Not sure I have a solution for this, but I see it being a bit problematic. Overall this is a much better ruleset, very fun match! As others have said, +50 pop is probably too much, but great change.

      Ya it does feel like one of those things that’s unfortunate but I really don’t see a solution for people sending their king to die elsewhere, as the king is overal a good addition imo.
      I do agree with you and others that 50 is too much, maybe 50 for first blood and then 25-30 for the rest or something.

    my opinion as a AOE inthusest is that the part weir you get 50 additional supply for eliminating another player is unfair will impact the game in a bad way , so what if there is under the table teaming up , that's what makes the game interesting , Example...Betsey is under attack he types in chat (CORE HELP) core answers (YES DAD COMING) that in itself what makes FFA beautiful to watch.

    That’s a lot of rules @drongo good luck making sure the players understand and there’s not too much interference to the game and you can be true to the FFA concept. Hopefully it’s appropriate penalties and judicatory violations are clear and a little flexible to allow the politics between players to come through as this is definitely part of the fun!!
    Would love to see game chat if you can cut it in like last time…also maybe 25 pop not 50 for kill?

      Lenient rather than flexible is probably what is required. Could dock a portion of their $500 based on severity rather than in game penalties?

    Looking forward to the tournament, changes look promising. I think 50+ pop is a bit much though. Also I think some points should still be given for placement. If you're unlucky enough to spawn between 2 players and defend for a long time, you won't take anyone out, but it would still be quite an accomplishment.

    Really love the creative ideas! I am sure Drongo spent a lot of time considering all aspects of the rule changes but 50 extra pop seems almost too generous. Such a disadvantage if you are going up against someone with that advantage.
    I also would just like to see cannon emplacements on towers removed. Tower Defense games are not fun to watch.
    Want to end with how excited I am. Thank you to Drongo and everyone else that works on this, can't wait for the great content.

    Hey Drongo, just 3 pointers for you:
    1) I like the feature of the King
    2) Drama. the Outback Octagon thrives on drama and ranting players. Not having chat, secret teamwork or less likely backstabbers kinda kills the drama and chaos.
    3) 50 pop reward seems like too
    much, 25 pop is more fitting. 50 pop army extra is too much too stop. Incentives to kill are a great move though

      another comment argued that the pop reward should grow proportionally with the max pop of the defeated player, and I think it is a great idea. If he had at most 100 pop, it'd gain between 1/4th and 1/5th so 20 to 25 more population capacity. If he had 300, then the victor gains between 60 and 75.
      It would be much more balanced

    I'm enjoying the new ruleset it's very regicide rumble-esque. The increased price of outpost upgrades works very well for mega random FFA games where there are a ton of resources.

    Great changes to the series, if the population increase becomes a problem you can always decrease it a little. Maybe like 25 population or 40 population increase, but you get 2 points for every kill to still have a great incentive.

    I love that FFA stuff 🤩😍👍👍👍 But I think 50 Pop is realy to mutch for one kill/snipe. Maybe give Players 3 Kings and every kill give you 10-20 more pop. 🤔

    i only play ffa nomad but i get bored if there is just 1vs 1 left as most of the times both dont have enough res to build wonder after intense battles + map is huge and most of the time you are on opposite sides.. so in the end i just quit cause by then youve been playing over an hour and could take easily an hour more of back and forth till the first runs out of res. so if you could find somehow something to intensify the end game, id love that.. like if 1v1 left each get 100k res to go ham quickly

    While not really a fix for the ffa you’re going for, a 2v2v2v2 would naturally solve a lot of the teaming problems since the teaming would be obvious to the players in the game. I would love to watch if you ever decided to do a tournament or series with that.

    Another suggestion, do the Riddick rule (You keep what you kill), instead of fixed 50 extra pop when you kill a player, you gain 1/4 of the player's max pop. So if your target's max pop is 200, you gain 50, but if your target's max pop is 400, you gain 100. This way the players that kill most will become more attractive targets.

    The only thing that worries me is that both the king health being low and bounty of killing a king being a huge advantage in the late game gives too much potential to a player getting lucky in the early game kinda like it happened to MarineLord here. IMO one should change: either the king should have more health, or the bonus for killing a king should be reduced to 25, maybe? Either way, I love the ruleset and am looking forward to the main event!

    Real nice rules, any way to stop people from hiding the king? Still should be able to hide it a bit, but not all game.
    Somehow every 10mins the kings location is shown to all players
