    I love the install Jeff. You’ll notice your CarPlay icons are on the left for LH drive models. There should be a setting to switch them to the right. 😊

    I am glad it all worked out Jeff. You are a brave man. The PCM unit is expensive to replace if you break it. Mine failed under warranty. I had a look at the bill to replace the unit, it was just under AUD$5000.

    For future reference, the vent tabs just need to be squeezed in toward center to release the tabs. Once you do that, they come out without resistance.

    This must be an older version. We got a circuit board from Ali express that fits in like you did ….. but no extra unit or connection to the fuse box. It’s wireless CarPlay we now have in our 2016 Macan. Cost $420 delivered. Yep the vents are hard to get out and I looked around for a Macan without the sunroof …. Harder to find but I didn’t want one having had a cayenne with a sunroof I never opened.

    I invested in a set of plastic pry tools. In the UK you can get them in a pack with a full set of electrical pin pushes for under £15. A lot safer than smashing your vents. Mind you you are impatient and far too rufty-tufty for delicate car parts lol.

    • @Gari.Hughes
      @Gari.Hughes Před 3 lety

      You may of noticed when he removed the passenger panel he has these plastic tools. The vent removal tool is not something you could replace with a plastic pry tool.

    I am pretty sure the marks on the door trim are actually your seatbelt buckle when you undo it… I had exactly the same issue with a Mercedes ML (w166) with aluminum trim inside!

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 3 lety +2

      Not on this car. You can't throw the buckle that far.

    • @NGTR35
      @NGTR35 Před 3 lety

      I also share this idea, as I have the same marks on the aluminum door trim of my Mercedes C W205
      Sometimes (when we are in a hurry) when you are releasing your arm from the safety belt to reach the door handle, you cause a catapult effect and project the buckle against the door trim.

  • @anomamos9095
    @anomamos9095 Před 3 lety +1

    Just a note on those ribbon cables.
    Some of them push in and connect with the spring pressure of the socket alone and others have various types of locking mechanism.
    DANGER.
    If you don’t carefully disengage the locking mechanism which is usually tiny almost hidden and impossible to see or get a tool on you will irreparably damage either the cable the socket or the locking mechanism or all three and if you’re really lucky you will cross wires over and short the thing to death or a broken piece of the locking mechanism will either jamb something or being inexplicably made of metal short something out.

    I would not buy this car. It looks nice but every single minor fender bender to the front will basically cost you to replacing the whole front end.
