    Every. Single. Time. I see one of JPs videos showing some sort of lick or phrase I end up pausing it, going into some weird zone and end up improving my playing technique and speed by a percentage point or two. By the end it feels like my left hand is on steroids and it's almost impossible to hit a wrong note or make an error.
    Thank you John Petrucci for being such a decent, likeable guy with zero ego.

John you are the best. Thank you.

  • @myworstenemy680

    These comments critiquing John's tone are Hilarious! Listen to what he is saying, understand what he's playing and choose to use it or don't. In the context of a guitar lesson, tone is almost irrelevant.
    Did you expect him to have his tech roll in his live rig so he could show you a simple sequencing exercise?

    • @blackie75
      @blackie75 Před 7 lety +3

      a lot of those type of players do lessons and their guitars sound like fart in a jar, not sure why they do that....

    • @majav15mg
      @majav15mg Před 7 lety +1

      MyworstEnemy I don't think tone is irrelevant. It's as relevant as having the guitar in tune... so pretty damn relevant I would say. If I want to see a guitar lesson, I think it's a given to expect a pleasant tone as well.
      Besides, no one is expecting him to have his whole rig present with him. But damn. Is that they best they can do with whatever they have at hand? I can get a much better tone using my used $180 practice amp. I think the little Fender Jaguars that go for maybe $100 can also do much better. There's no way they didn't have the means to provide better tone.
      So the complaint about tone is perfectly justified.

    Really cool tone thing. So reminiscent of Eric Johnson with his distinctive tone. I'm not even the biggest Petrucci fan (nothing against him, just not my personal thing) but I can ALWAYS tell it's him within seconds of hearing him play. Such a cool thing about the truly great players that they stand out in a sea of really great musicians all playing similar things. If I had a year to kill I'd love to learn his style because it would fit so great over other styles of rock and even some blues (I think). Sadly, CZcams wasn't here when I was a kid learning to play and I missed out on this kind of technique and theory building.

    it's worth it. but before you buy it... take a look at some of the smaller custom companies! the BFR is very expensive, you could get a custom for the price with everything built to your taste. for example Mayones, KxK, Ran, BlacKat, Siggi braun, skervesen or Nik huber. but if the JP7 has all the specs you want, you'll get a great guitar as well.

    Have yet to crack speed picking and crosspicking simultaneously. If you are a JP / Al D. / Morse player and insist on picking EVERY note (which is cool AF, don't get me wrong), but HOW do they do it! It's impossible to keep the fluidity of up / down / up / down alt strokes when picking every note going cross string. You WILL eventually do two down strokes / up strokes in a row (pick is on upstroke but next note is a string below). See? Yngwie often stays fluid while crossing strings by hammering / pulling on / off a little, etc. But JP can pick every note at will. Someone explain! Even more amazing, Al D. does not anchor his picking hand .... It floats! THAT is the most amazing thing I've ever seen a "pick every note" player do.
