Bravo ! Succese si multa putere de munca!
Rest in peace Mr. Traian. Thank you for the gift of your talents.
I did not realize how many steps go into this process. Very labor-intensive and gives high-quality leather as the finished product. Very nice.
should try the traditional Native American way. I just got done with a deer hide I harvested this hunting season. Salted and dried for 3 days in my shed, oiled with the brain, set to permeate for a day, then stretched and dried for 6 hours before I had soft workable fur on skin. I then turned it into some moccasins for a Christmas gift. You havent worked your hands until you've stretched a hide on a wooden beam. XD
@WoodLandChef damn straight! My wrists, forearms, shoulders and back were ACHING the day after this.
@@Elmarias777 what do you mean "oiled with the brain"?
@markelafrantzi4668 take the animals brain and a little bit of water, 1 part water to 2 parts brain. Mush it all up into a paste and cook it back down a little bit to get rid of the water. I did it over a campfire for maybe 10 minutes.
Then i took the fleshed hide and massaged in the brain paste for several minutes until it permeated the hide. I carefully folded the hide up, fleshed and pasted side in, and set it into a large bucket with a brick underneath so the runoff wouldnt saturate and ruin to fur side. Left it like that overnight

do you sell lambskin hides?
Hey! We sell Lambskin hides.. Do you want to collaborate?
pretty labor intense - never thought it takes so much work to finish a skin
Acum știi .
About two thirds of the work goes into finishing. Which means the hide is useable without all the machinery, except the softening barrel. Very interesting skill to have
This is from BC or AD?
Thanks, wonderful to watch but when did he tan? I saw salt and dry, then relaxing, fleshing, drying, then finishing. Did I miss it?
They didn’t show the tanning part
I think they don’t want to show it , from what I searched they use what they call in the video neophalina and sawdust and neophalina seems to be kerosene in Romanian. So they soak it in kerosene to degrease it (that must be the tanning part ) and on the internet it seems that people also do it with a mix of baking soda and kerosene to make a paste that they apply on the leather, similar to kerosene and sawdust.
(Sawdust probably absorb the oil and kerosene mix before kerosene evaporate and let oil back in the leather )
They probably aren’t proud of it because it’s a chemical part of the process witch doesn’t sound very artisanal and natural
Bună. Cit costă blanita?
Puteți să-mi dați o discriere.. Mulțumesc
Hello, I am doing sheepskin in a good way, but after a period of time, that is, after two or three months, it is torn, what is the reason? Thank you.

So, these are salted hides; not tanned? How well do they wear? How do you preserve them? What would be the shelf life of vests/clothing made from these hides. please? Thanks.
They are salted to prevent rot while storing them .They need to be tanned/ pH needs to be high .The proteins and natural fats would cause it to rot . The outside of the shearling is the meatside do it is like velour leather .If you want a smooth surface then you need a synthetic bound leather
@@jensrb50 Thank you. I did know why hides are salted prior to tanning, that was not my question because I already knew that.....which accounts for my (I thought careful) wording of my original question.
These skins do not seem to be tanned at all during this film. The actual "tanning" process is completely "skipped?" I did not see one part where the hides were tanned or plumped....hence my comment. Salting in itself is not tanning, but I fail to see at which point in the film the hides are actually tanned.
@@payntpot7623 he did indicate they were put into a vat- tanners keep that a secrete, probably alum (low Ph tanning/pickel acid)
That’s what the large rotating drum is for - probably alum or chromium salts.
@@payntpot7623 It looks like an alum tan which unlike chrome tan is not waterproof!

Almost forgot, I got here because I was reading the Bible, The Acts of the Apostles 9:43 where Peter stayed with a tanner and I suddenly became intrigued to discover what a tanner was.
Awesome when you read the Bible like that you see and not just read. keep serving God. God bless you brother in Jesus name Amen!!!!
Must be the King James, new ones corrupt most everything God said.
*Confused atheist noises*
@@dans4270 No, NRSV is more accurate, as most Jewish, Catholic and Protestant Bible scholars agree on. King James is corrupted, especially in Deuteronomy - King James ordered some parts changed so people in England would be pro-monarchy during the conflict between Protestants and Catholics. But all translations are by their nature not perfect. If you really want to read it, study Hebrew and Ancient Greek, or at least read linguistic commentaries.

Hi, very nicely done, just change the naming of your video.
How is he getting them so perfectly white? He must be bleaching the skin at some point... I've done about 6 sheep skins and the skin itself usually ends up kind of off-yellow with a few brownish spots. What really weirds me out is drying them in the sun... which should really be putting weird coloration into them. Pure white wool usually makes for pure white skin, but he had what looked like a brown goat hide in their and it was perfectly white as well.
Soaking in detergent and thoroughly fleshing it keeps it from yellowing. They yellow is from fat, tissues, or natural oils that havent been completed cleared off. Most, if not all hides generally turn white when preserved. :3
The detergent he uses probably has some soda ash and then the tanning solution is likely to be alum based both chemicals aid in bleaching the flesh side of skins.
