I think this is so perfect! It hit me that you can add the metal flashing etc. but then over the flashing add wood veneer, heated with an iron, if you want a more rustic look to stain instead of paint. Fantastic idea!!!

Very creative idea. Our dog thinks the tree skirts are for him to play with and has torn a number of them in the past few years so we have stopped using them. I am definitely doing this for our tree come Christmas time. Thanks for posting this!

I want to eventually do the whole project, but this year I think I will get the hoops and use a thick paper in place of fashing. We have a fake tree, so we aren't concerned with water. Thanks for this tutorial. I can't wait to do the whole diy!

      A tape measure.

@@lechatbotte. no she didn’t use a tape measure, if you watch the video again it’s blue. It has a locking pin so can draw an accurate line over the entire skirt

@@ZachS2290 she she used a tape measure watch the video she measures across the top and marks for the knobs. If you mean measuring the circumference for aligning her tape she uses a Kreg locking ruler. You can find them at lowes for 16 dollars on Amazon for fifteen. I just locked my tape measure at the distance I wanted and held my pen against the end of the tape and moved it around.
