China Enforces Childbirth: Birthrate Plummets 92%, Aging Might Surpass Japan as World’s Highest

  • Due to financial constraints, young people in China are hesitant to date, marry, or have children. The previously eager Chinese population regarding childbearing has suddenly become one of the least interested groups. Over a mere decade, from 2013 to 2023, China's population has halved, with its birth rate plummeting to the lowest globally.

Yes, I've noticed it of some cultures - as well as China, Europe, Scandinavia, Japan, the Antipodes. Far less children, more young people saying no.
It's not just the very high cost of living, practically unaffordable for Millennials, it's the very obvious and calamitous decline of the environment too.
I don't know how much world news these young Chinese have access to, but they know well enough (through their own news system) that the environment is clearly in freefall.
Who in their right mind wants to bring a tiny child into a world that is overheating in some places, flooding in others, harsh storms in others? It has already been said that the very young and very old are most vulnerable to heatwaves and wet bulb events.
When things get really desperate, and you may have to resort to migration across country or to another country, the last burden you want to bring with you is young children. They always want, always need, cry and scream when they don't get it, must be carried when they are tired, and it's devastating to watch them perish. History is full of heartbreaking stories of children and/or their parents buried by roadsides.

    Life of Chinese children:
You are sent off to schools that are like prison, spending all of your waking hours studying, studying, and studying for tricky and very difficult test questions.
Teachers abuse you if you can't get high enough test scores. Your worth to your parents is what grades you get in school. Anything less than perfect is seen as not acceptable.
Compete against hundreds of millions of students who study as if their life is on the line. Take the hardest college entrance exam in the world, where anything less than a very high score means doom.
Graduate and then there are 800 people applying to the same entry level job. A lot of the applicants have years of experience because they got laid off and will look for any job.

My best friend was conceived in China in 1991 with her parents already having one child.
Thankfully, her parents and sibling were able to immigrate to Australia before her birth! Her parents went on to have a total of 4 children and were incredibly financially frugal for over 20 years. The result of this is that her parents retired quite young and are living in their own beautiful home in Sydney (all 6 of them had lived in a 2 bedroom home behind their restaurant for the previous 20 years!)
I often think that families like theirs are the kind who would have truly benefited China as a whole. Their 4 children became a pharmacist, accountant, engineer and a doctor. Due to the one child policy, China forever lost an incredibly hard working couple, but also 4 incredibly talented young people (3 of which are now parents themselves!)

Politicians are hell bent to cause problems on society because they can validate "our necessity of them", because they sold us not jist the "solutions" of their self inflicted chaos, but the idea that politics is inherently necessarily to resolve problems; in reality they have nothing really valuable to offer and they know it. In short, politicians always dragged us down to their level in the pits of filth.
The least thing we have to give to politicians is trust, which is the source of their "power", we trust they're capable but they are not, we trust they're gonna do their job but they don't, we trust them to make the best decisions and surround themselves with the best people to help them but they are a mafia, and lastly we trust them they'll think on our best interests but over and over again they show how disposable we are to them.

Basically poor people are leaving the responsibility of child rearing to the rich cos they cannot afford to but the rich people are too selfish to raise many children. Not having children is not selfish, it's a personal decision that everyone should be able to make for themselves, regardless of their economic status. Rich people don't owe the state children any more than poor people. What's selfish is forcing others to have children regardless of their wishes because YOU think they should have them.
If governments want people to have more children, they should provide economic conditions where people feel secure and know they won't be left with nothing should something happen (like losing a job or a serious illness in the family); where they can believe in a safe future for their kids (physically, economically and politically); where they know they can still thrive professionally as parents (so childcare and especially incentives for women who clearly invest more time and energy into having a child than their partners, and who still bear a disproportional burden of childcare, which affects their earnings and, as a result, their quality of life when they retire); good healthcare during pregnancy and birth (and of course later for the children); and also they should destigmatise and support single parents and invest in fertility treatments for people who want to have children. Forcing ANYONE to have a child against their wishes is just wrong and cruel, both for the parents in question and the children that are born to them.
