    This is just so amazing to see. Mr. Clifford is a force of nature. He is so tireless and so funny. And Ms. Paul is incredible too. John and Mimi work so beautifully together. Megan is working so hard. You have a whole new appreciation for Balanchine - the intricacies of everything. If only Clifford could have a major role at N.Y.C.B.

    Awesome coaching job by John and Mimi! Really good notes. I saw the clip you posted of you dancing this John and I love the music. You were traveling pretty fast through that whole piece! Really good work by the dancers.

    Clifford's description of the grand jete and jumping is incredible. Mimi and he are both such purists and incredible.

    Beautiful and invaluable record. The Balanchine Foundation should really post more of this series online!

    Oh, John, thank you so much for posting this! There simply is no one on the planet that can pass on such brilliant coaching as only you can ..... this is so steeped in history and authenticity! Loved every second of it!

      Nancy Kaye Thanks. Means a lot just wish I could coach-teach them on a daily basis. Lots of talent there, just misdirected.

    Really thrilling to see the Balanchine teaching "from the horse's mouth" so to speak. Thanks so much.

    My 2nd time watching this... I haven’t seen nearly as much of Mimi coaching as I have of JC. Her enthusiasm (and John’s) has me grinning from ear to ear. Lucky young principals!

      Thanks. That was a one day thing for the Balanchine Archives. Not for the company. These things are just for historical purposes. Too bad the company doesn’t seem to value these as a day to day habit for the dancers.

      John Clifford, Too bad indeed. My wife and I watched hours and hours of archival footage when we were training and dancing. But so little of it was of coaching and teaching. It mystifies me why a valuable resource like this isn’t put to wider use.

    All coaching aside one epaulement of Mimi is enough to to remind you what’s missing on a very basic level. Stick figures compared to the sublime spiral...

      It’s in the opening credits. Megan Fairchild and Jared Angle. Two NYC Ballet principals.

    That developpé added at the beginning was just plain gross, as in yuck. If this is the kind of alteration being done to the originals, I can see why you want to get in there and raise an alarm. Styles change, as you rightly say, but taste ( one hopes ) should not.

    • @jcliff26
      @jcliff26  Před 5 lety +3

      Patricia Goodson Unfortunately that’s very minor to what’s been going on. For over 30 years things have been chipped away in so many of his ballets it’s obviously very disheartening to me. Nothing I can do about it unfortunately.

      I'm pulling for you from afar, and following all this with interest. I only regret I have no influence where needed. Meanwhile I keep returning to your video of Valse Fantaise. Its sublime beauty has given me so very much, and your dancing is phenomenal. I also am grateful that you shared, in another video, what Balanchine said about what is real, as I agree completely. Thanks for all these postings! @@jcliff26
