Jerome became insane because of what Jeremiah did. Jeremiah was always a psychopath from the start, and he turned his family against Jerome out of self-preservation, and he went away. Meanwhile, Jerome went insane because of what Jeremiah did. All of this because the brotherly love simply wasn't ever there. Sad
