- I might remake this video in the future once the game fully comes out.
For now this will suffice to show difference between the style of the 2000 designs and the upcoming 2021 one from Takashi Takeuchi. Looking forward to it!

The art is way better on the new ones but the designs are more generic in some cases, mainly Arcueid and Ciel. They could easily have done UFOTable quality art but with at least some of the unique elements of the original (Arcueid's spiky hair and baggy clothes, Ciel's hairstyle and tattoos) to make them not look like Saber and Blue Mashu
I personally prefer Ciel's older hairstyle better but I think overall, the newer art style feels more crisp, clean, and modern, and really appealing overall while the older artstyle does give more feelings of nostalgia even though I've never played the original

And they changed Arcueid's long skirt to mini skirt so it's more suitable to modern days , but i prefer the long skirt tho, i'm already used to it
Old designs are better in every aspect except for feeling more dated due to Tsukihime's art being made in 2000, and 2008 melty blood designs fix that for the most part, melty blood really was peak takeuchi art.
Shiki, Hisui, Kohaku and Akiha are absolutely better in the new designs. Rest is debatable.
@@simulacrumpilot2777 After looking at them again, I have changed my opinion somewhat. Hisui, Kohaku, and Akiha's designs are fine, mainly because they barely changed. I can never agree that Shiki's new design is better. The Takeuchi tilt is especially apparent in his new design, bro just looks like gudao 2.0 . He just feels like a different character, and not in a good way imo.

i will admit that the eyes for the old designs feel more genuine but as someone who has played through the original in its entirety I will say that these new ones are way better overall

Totally agree, Kohaku's old eyes had that look like there was something beneath them, but the new look just doesn't give that feeling.

I'm more of a modern guy myself but I love the cleanliness of Takeuchi's newer artstyle. Some of his older work is nice too though! He really knows his stuff about character design, and that's why I always look up to his art

I like most of the new designs with the Exeption on Arcuied.
The longer skirt and slightly longer hair looked better in my oppinion.

The skirt, the Hair and the loose fitting clothes shows that old Arcueid does not care about anything but hunting dead apostles while new Arcueid top priority is to look good.
after reading through the remake vn, yeah no, the remake designs rock as hell. At first I was pretty taken aback by Arcueid's redesign (AKA, no grandma skirt) but got used to it pretty quick the moment I started reading through the Arcueid Route. I personally think neither design look superior, and that at the end its just peoples preferences.
What I would like to say though is that people seem to talk a lot about an artist's 'soul' into their work, while I personally believe that yes artist impart their passion and feelings into drawings, I don't believe its up to us to really define whether or not the art itself has a soul or no soul at all. From my own perspective, the redesigns don't look bad, in fact, they're just like the old designs except polished and modernized, as for the soul, well, I've played through the game and have seen multiple cg's off the same characters, and honestly, every version was utilized very well, and worked well with the vn's writing.
All I've got to say about the designs is they look great, is great once you played through it, and I like it.

@@Lemuel928 Nope. Mashu is just a re-used concept Nasu had for FSN. In FSN a Shielder servant named Tachie was supposed to appear. But she was scrapped during development. Then Deen was supposed to make an anime about her, but they weren't able/willing to pull it off and settled for the FSN 2006 adaptation. It wasn't until FGO that the Shielder concept was executed with Mashu Kyrielite. Ciel had a way different design in OG. She looked like a blue haired Akia Seo from KnK. Remake Ciel clearly takes some nods from Tachie and in extension, Mashu.
Appreciate the Mahoutsukai no Yoru OST.
I miss Ciel's old design
I‘ll be honest, I prefer the original artstyle. While the new one looks better I think it lacks the personality it had before. I had these problems with the UBW adaptation as well. If you would take the colour from all these picture basicly every female character would look pretty similar.
Shiki just looks like a black haired Shirou from UBW here and Arcueid looks like Saber, Akiha like Rin etc, which makes it look like it came after Fate and not like 4 years before the original Fate VN.
I feel like modern anime often have the problem that many characters look the same and that makes them forgetable
for example as much as I love the babylonia adaptation I feel like every character has Ritauka‘s face with different hair.

Just my opinion though and that is not saying that I‘m not super hyped for the Remake and wish that it‘ll have a global release. This is just my nitpick that I prefer the older more distinct style

If you watch Sleepy Crest video on " The True Beginning of Type Moon: Alliance of the Illusionary Eyes Analysis" video at 5:36 - 6:35 how he likes the old picture designs that has that spark charm look to his old designs. And I do like Takeuchi's old designs than his newer ones from FGO where every face has turn into a Saberface stoic look with no emotion. Or a Rin face and Mashu look and also Shirou look. Shiki, Arcuied, Ceil and Akiha are the only ones look a little bit off. And so is Arcuied's hair being little too short. Hisui, Kohaku and Satsuki look great nothing off from them.
These new designs are clean AF , I haven’t played both of them but i love Visual novels so ill gladly try it whenever i have free time

Though, even beyond what I post below, I really do think Ciel's hairstyle is iconic to her. The change there affects her look overall much more than the different outfit. That, and the glasses being a different shape. Not to say the outfit change has no effect at all, but Ciel has a very unique hairstyle that's associated with her.

Melty blood art was Takeuchi's peak. Current takeuchi's art is homogenous and lacks expression compared to his older work.

Art style is nice and all, but the new designs are fucking garbage. Ciel doesn't even look like Ciel. Arcueid is some generic pretty girl from the streets and removing her hair vents is a sin. Same goes for removing Shiki's thin round glasses. His new thick rectangle glasses looks garbage. At least everyone else looks the same from their original designs.

The opening showed what looked to be modern day Tokyo, so I think they're moving Tsukihime up the timeline.

Well, sorta I guess. I love the old designs as well, but I don't think the timeline of Tsukihime was meant to only be in the old days. Tsukihime was always meant to be a modern day fantasy and obviously back then the 2000's were modern.

I don't mind the Saber or Mashu face and everyone besides Arcueid and Ciel are fine, even Shiki but Arcueid slightly longer hair, loose fitting clothes and long skirt showed someone who didn't care about appearance and literally has 1800 conservative view on clothes, Ciel tattoos are self explanatory and the power up garb is not threatening anymore.
Ill make an update to this video once Red Garden comes out. I also got Vegas Pro now so itll be higher quality.

Soul VS No Soul
I think both, the new ones and the old ones, look fine (talking about design/style). But I think I prefer Arcueids old design.
Some were saying that the newer ones seem expressionless or even soulles but I think we need to see the actual novel to say anything definite. Even the artistic choices we don't like right now may fit perfectly well into the new product. Who nows? Maybe I'll end up preferring Arcs new design.

I can understand disliking some of the new designs but old Shiki looks worse than the new Shiki in almost every category imaginable. Old Shiki and his orange Tshirt was an abomination.

It’s a pretty minor thing, but imho Yumizuka should have kept the blue bow tie, it looked better and, for me, more recognizable. Akiha looks ok, her design shows how strict she is, though i would like to see her wearing something like her older design.

So does anyone know if they are going through with the Satsuki route? I know there was a lot of speculation but have they officially come out with a yes or no? (For those who don’t know when tsukihime was orginally being developed they planned on six routes giving Satsuki her own route, unfortunately half way through developing her route they scrapped it due to time and budget constraints, and it has become a running joke in Tsukihime related works like carnival phantasm that she gets forgotten about and left out if I recall correctly Melty bloody is technically a sequel to what they had story boarded for her route even though it has never been released)
As far as i recall(but i could not have all info since i dont know JP to read Nasu blog and etc), in terms of official confirmation at the moment of January 2021 it is a "no", at least for now (she isnt in the cast yet and Opening PV dosnt have that much of her scenes).
But It was indeed teased in Tsukihime Plus Disc, and a bit older Type-Moon Ace's magazines by Kinoko Nasu himself (where he talks about "remake", that he wants to filially include her story), plus 2012 "remake" PV was having her as one of the main heroines. Next Type-Moon Ace magazine with new Tsukihime information will be out in this Spring, and new Tsukihime will in fact have more content, so lets see.
And yes, one of the major Melty Blood's storylines is a sequel to (not yet existing) Satsuki route.

Some people, like me, not really complaining about the art style change tbh. We just compering and telling our opinions (since some of us spend hours in this VN). While i'll just preferring more some elements of old Takeuchi art style (like his old eyes design in general, old Ciel haircut\face, these nostalgic and warm staff), i as well can appreciate new one and can see how better more of new Takechi art style has become in many areas, now its modern (like Shiki closes redesign), cleen and great.
Opinion not always=complain, dont you think.
And yes, its not stupid to have this opinion about preferening something of original Takeuchi art style, cus 1) we can explain it why we like it 2) its JUST an opinion anyway, its not gonna do shit anyway.

The new designs are blessed. Playing through Tsukihime while looking at the old designs was somewhat difficult.

The main problems with the new design is Arcueid's hair and dress. But personally, Ciel's hair is a little bit of a let down for me.

Takeuchi's new artstyle lacks soul. Just look at Akiha when she is looking directly at the viewer. Original Akiha penetrated you with her sigth. New Akiha's eyes look empty to me.

and that is the old one just alot more basic and not as good but the eye look thing might be because well different scene one is that of a bored look and one of a more imitating look

@@kitfisto494 yeah I'd really agree here, I get it's Takeuchi's work and one of his older works he's done for TYPE-MOON. But i'd really loved to see Hirokazu Koyama's interpretations of Tsukihime designs, since his Aoko design was very nice in Mahoyo

The anime adaption had better character designs
Eh...idk. It had quite a weird artstyle (manfaces). But the OST and atmosphere were good. If only it was more graphic and stuck closer to the VN. The only designs I really liked were Nrvnqsr and SHIKI/Roa. Ironically I still prefer this mess of an adaptation over the shiny Fate-pandering Remake. Right now Nasu treats the Tsuki/Melty IP like Disney treats Star Wars lol.
