    Loved watching this. I'm a pet groomer and I've never once had a client ask for this cut, and I doubt I ever will. I also have a standard and I don't care to maintain such a cut on her. But I very much enjoy watching how it's done! Lots of great tips for poms and scissoring that I will definitely remember!

    Thank you ❤️ I will be saving this video. Went to my first dog show ( akc) and seeing those beautiful standards has inspired to finally try a "poodle" cut on my standard poodle. I always keep him in an Asian fusion type of style.... Edit: finally finished his cut, using this vid as a guide, perfect!

    Lienke, Thank you so very much for all of this information. I am new to the poodle conformation world and have been practicing for 2 years on my poodles. I have 2 standards that I am learning the Continental on. I have watched every video, talked with handlers, groomers, breeders, and read every book I could find. I want to tell you that I learned more comprehensive useful guidance in your video than in all of the above mentioned resources. I groomed my poodle step by step while watching and pausing your lecture demonstration. Both of my poodles came out very balanced and impressive. I asked several groomers, handlers to evaluate them and they were impressed.
    Thank you again for willingly putting yourself out there. You have fabulous presentation skills and deep knowledge of the poodle ,it's history and the Continental cut. I had never heard of you before and feel very fortunate to have come upon this training video. I am interested in knowing if you have any others to share?
    Stay well and keep teaching.

    While I don't plan on doing a full continental clip, I found your tips on where to use body point references super helpful! I now feel like I'll get a better look on my future dog (black standard people!) Thank you!
    Also, your to on not using oil directly on the fire is super useful. Like you, I plan on let my dog be a DOG with trips to the beach and romps in the woods.
    What conditioning spray do you use/recommend? My dog won't be a slow dog, but I want a soft and healthy coat.

    This tutorial is awesome! How do you determine how long the jacket hair should be on the sides? I am afraid to take too much off as I am worried I will make the dog look weird from the front view. Also don’t want it too long so he doesn’t look fat!

    • @LienkeLuthart
      @LienkeLuthart Před 3 lety +1

      I never make them to long, to much coat dasn't make the poodle elegant in my opinion, it have to be in balance with you dog and your topline aswell. Try to look at your dog when he is walking around you during the week en evaluate it. I can't say how long or short it have to be on your poodle, that is not on every poodle the same unfortunately.

    • @TheTarablee713
      @TheTarablee713 Před 3 lety

      It's best to blend the jacket in with the top line. So it helps to have the spray up done. Then blend together with the "mid zone"(?) Lol I never cut above the horizontal line from the chest to the hip points until the spray up is done at the show. If you want to shape before and without a hair lacquer, you can use a texturizing spray like thick and thicker to simulate the spray up, then blend.

    • @peccantis
      @peccantis Před 2 lety

      Not professional or trained groomer, just do my own medium silver and friend's pets sometimes. I show under FCI so no sprays or wiggies for us. I use the elbows, top of the chest (bottom of the shave), and waist as my anchor points to set the bottom and front lines of the jacket. Then I set the topknot up a bit to get a feeling of how high and wide it will be, and set the main lateral/side lines for the jacket accordingly. The exact dimensions depend a lot on the coat you have to work with, what's trendy at the time in your neck of the woods (just look at the differences between BIS Poodles from different decades), and your personal preference of course, as well as what suits the dog's size and conformation. Generally the better the coat's texture and density, the more larger and rounder your shapes can be. I like a mostly oblong front profile on my dog, slightly larger at the chest. He has excellent coat on his topline, so keeping the sides a bit shorter not only highlights that but also makes his clip suitable for our woods-roaming general utility dog lifestyle. It also doesn't underline his rather slender bone as much as a bigger jacket would.

What I wanted to ask was: you said you go to the beach with your dogs in that clip and that is what I intend to do, too. It interests me, how do you care for the continental coat during summer, when the dogs are bathing in the sea? I thank you in advance for your answer and whish you many success in the future. • @LienkeLuthart
      @LienkeLuthart Před 3 lety +1

      You start shaving the rossets square and when you scissor them you make them round. If you will have a nice eagle pigment, make sure you don't change your line before a show, and keep the line in, so try to keep it short on the legs and shave is every 2 weeks.

Easy to give negative comments on a video when this work is clearly a personal view on how to clip continental the way everyone likes for themselves and what fits your dog. Maby we should rest this discussion. You don't have to like it at all, I don't mind. And I have never said that I am the best. I was ask to give a demo of my point of view how to groom a standard poodle in Continental, so I did... This way it works really well for me, otherwise I didn't win any prices at all.. Lol.. and if you have listened to the demo I explain the reason to scissor the chest and rossets that way. But again, that is my view and reason. You can do it a other way you like it.

      @@LienkeLuthart , sure, and I'm doing it my way. But what is your peoblem to get different opinions about your result? Or you wanted just to get something you would like? lol As I said the rossets done too bad, spray up is just terrible and flat chest. I'm sorry if you can't see it yourself. But this is what I have noticed and you should not argue with me. If you call yourself professional - this result was too bad. That's it.
      If you are unable to accept any opinion - do not show your work to the public.

    I really like poodles and want to get one.... but this style is just awful, why do this to a dog (and your eyes)?

      Hello, Very thankful for your reaction . Well indeed, or you hate it or you love it . But , let me have the opportunity to say that the Continental Clip is an official clip for poodle. So, in what model you groom your poodle, is personal. Our eyes love this clip and the poodles are very happy with this clip. Don't judge a book by his cover :-) Kind regards .

      You don't have to cut them like this. You only usually see this in shows or on dogs doing hunting and working somehow with waterfowl or water. There's many cuts you can get on a poodle
