  • Common reasons why your Honda Snowblower will not drive going by simplest reasons first and then working your way up.
i always go by simplest reasons first. Make sure Engaged/Release lever on a hydrostatic drive Honda is in the engaged position. Check oil in Tranny reservoir. Check drive belt. Check drive cable and spring.

Thanks. My hydrostatic drives forward but not backward. I suspected a cable issue possibility and you reinforced that idea. I'll check it out.

I have had my HS622 for 20+ years. The trans had a leak so I bought a new 724. Never serviced it and it sat for the past 5 years. I decided to completely restore it this winter. I started by replacing both trans seals. Changed all nuts and bolts an anything that was rusted. Changer the oil. Painted as needed.
Got it all done and it started first pull.
My problem is that it now only goes forward in I think second gear. No reverse. No other gear. When I rebuilt it I took the shift leaver off l. The shifter moves into each slot. It’s not jammed.
What do you think my problem is.
1st and 2nd gear same speed for both. Reverse none. Neutral none.

Hi Anthony, Our HS828 Drive Clutch Lever is suddenly became loose and stopped working properly so it won't move. Evidently the cable detached but we have no idea what it looked like before this happened. There is no cable dangling. Can you advise what could have happened and where that cable goes from that lever, or where it is even attached to that lever? This machine is 33 years old & has been a workhorse for us here in snow country. Thanks for your help!

post on Honda Snowblower Enthusiasts group also. Like the video suggests , remove belt cover and check cable to spring. also check under right handle where top of cable connects. cable or spring most likely broken. let me know what you find. thx

Great summary across the model range. Are the drive wheel pins supposed to be shear pins?

Hey Anthony, I have an older hs724 and it worked great 2 days ago however it now will not track with the auger engaged or under load. It will only track in the travel position. When down and auger engaged, it will only chatter without moving. Any idea what my problem could be? Thanks for your time!

You ate absolutely right sir. Tipped the machine back and low and behold, big Crack in the gearbox housing. She's an old girl with a lot of hours on her. No shame but with the augers worn out and bow a bad gearbox, time to replace I guess. Thanks for your quick reply!

any tips for a HSS 1332 ATD that intermittenly wont provide much power to tracks....cables are good....pins are good....no fluid level to check....warm and dry it is good, after a while tracks weaken until barely propelling, slowly....tension on tracks is good, not the cog slipping inside the track...any help?

Hi there, OK. I've got the HS928 model and the Transmission Release Lever is stuck in the RELEASED position. Its jammed. I got under it and tried moving the pin that the release lever is connected to and it is totally jammed. Tried to free it with arc joint pliers, but I ended up breaking off the area that is drilled for cotter pin connection. Brought it to my Honda Dealer and they told me "it is seized" and it would cost over $1500 to fix it. I'm having a hard time understanding that - seems they really didn't know enough as to what is really wrong and just said its "seized", which to me is not an adequate explanation. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

1500 seems high unless quote was for service/other repairs. the tranny is around 800 new and 300 labor. i would see if that in/out shaft is seized? is there an oil leak?

How to remove the hydrostatic transmission case? And how to check the internal problem other than the external seals?

    • @HondaSnowblowerEnthusiasts311

Finally my breakage was the metal doll pin that holds the forward/reverse arm on the hydrostatic transmission which was broken, so the transmission remained in neutral. I had to remove the transmission to change this simple doll pin.
