- The mostly hotly anticipated lens of the century has finally arrived. Well maybe not but still, it was interesting to test out.

if you want phone quality pictures on your mirrorless camera, this is the lens for you!
actually on my Huawei, photos looks 1000x better 🤔
Probably works if you need that look for a movie.
@@yosam.mp4 Yeah. That is exactly the thought I had
@@yosam.mp4 Movie people would slap it on a Red with 8K sensor
Maybe a phone from like 15 years ago
Finally! I can get that "Disposable Camera" look.
Lmaoo
that's harsh
Yeah, the old house is back!
Just this once!
Chris' videos are like my favorite magazine (SoundOnSound), I look forward to every next release!
Hey Chris, so great you reviewed this lens, thanks!
That unusual inconsistent sharpness to the right of center is disappointing.
Aaaa the old building test again, oh the nostalgia :D
This brings a whole new meaning to “junk lens".
Video games bring a whole new meaning to junk life
"Welcome to another of my weird lens reviews!"
I don't think your lens reviews are weird at all ~
No like he does videos specifically called weird ones because the lenses are outlandish. I think a mirror lens and the Holga lenses fell into that category.
@@RealRaynedance whoosh :D
@@rusinsr I've spent too much time on other channels where people actually ignore things rather than being sarcastic. F for me.
I've seen people adapt the olympus9mm f8 to apsc. Would be awesome to see that and the 15mm f8 tested on fullframe and apsc. Including info on whether the edges are pure black from mechanical vignette or just pretty dark but correctable. Also I'd love to know whether sharpness of the fun leader might be better at 1m or3?
Lovely to see the old house again :)
Old day , The Brick Test 😂
Might be usable for video work, although I'd imagine most modern smartphones would outperform the results you'd get. Perhaps if you need something cheap, ultra-lightweight and unobtrusive and are trying to match footage, like for a travel photography situation where you can sometimes bring a larger lens but sometimes need something pocketable? Really racking my brain for use cases, here.
Nice to see the house again!
Interesting lens and another great review! Quick question, where are those houses? My best guess so far is Riverside around Sofia Gardens given most of the houses are build in that sort of stone.
Nice to see that lovely Wall again!
i bought a really good second hand 22mm pancake lens for my M50 to use as the camera cap instead of the blank, that way i always have a lens on it ready to shoot something,
seems like this was a similar idea? but looks like it falls way short.i enjoy the wackadoodle lens reviews
This lens makes any expensive full frame camera worse than my phone lol
So you have a full frame camera are you capable of taking good pictures with it do you know your history photography or do you just have a full-frame camera but you wanted to brag about
@@unbroken1010 Sounds like a comment from an APS-C camera owner
Can you update this one with their newest version which includes a focus ring? Funleader Caplens 18mm f/8.0 Pro
Thanks for the review, would like to see the TTArtisans 11mm f2.8 fisheye review
2 years on from your original review of the Funleader 18mm f/8 Kickstarter lens I bought one in Leica M mount mainly to use on my Ricoh GXR-M mount camera and my Sony A6600. The M mount version is not fixed focus. It has a toggle switch that allows close focusing to 0.45 meter with a click stop at 1.0 meter and a stop at infinity. A much more useful version of the Funleader Cap Lens. I have not tried it on my full frame Leica M, no need to since I have other small lenses for that. But on the Ricoh GXR-M and the Sony A6600 it is a very good performing lens for what it is. Center is very sharp and out to the edge it is more than satisfactory. Slight purple fringing on high contrast subjects such as tree branches against a bright blue sky towards the edges, but again, it is more than tolerable. For B&W it is rather outstanding for street photography in reasonable light, or bump up the ISO.
If you haven't yet, you might want to get a production sample in Leica M mount to test.
Perfect allround lens to carry with you for studio and nature landscapes. It always comes with me. xD
What's the weight? Could be a good lens choice if one is going to put the camera on a gimbal, especially if the gimbal is mounted on a quadcopter.
I had so much fun with Olympus 15mm lenscap! Sure, such lenses don't make any sens, any smartphone takes better pictures, but the whole process is fun enaugh to give it a shot.
I love the look of this. Which I knew about this sooner. Would like to get an l mount version
I got one of these also. My copy doesn't show the poor sharpness (or lack thereof) that yours does. I quite like it. It's a great, unobtrusive, street photography lens that immediately gives "a look" Vignette is easily fixed in processing if you so desire.
It would probably be an awesome little vlogging lens.
I have the Olympus 15mm one and it is awesome!!! Same kind of lens that's in my childhood Kodak Pocket Instamatic!! Forget film, just use these lenses!
Yeah I have the Oly 8mm which is very useful - great sharpness in the centre and doesn't fall off or vignette too badly in the corners
Interesting! The way to test the out-of-focus rendering would be to use a (very) short extension tube. Though I am not sure such a thing even exists for the FE mount...
Alun now that could make things fun!
Olympus makes pretty much the same lens (or has it made for them) that fits on their m43rds system. I had one, when I shot just for web. It was actually pretty good. I had a PEN-F that was essentially a pocket point-and-shoot. Better than carrying a separate camera on trips for that sort of thing. It wasn't too bad.
ahh I love seeing that building.. 😍
great reviews mate...can you also review 'Tokina 16.5-135mm f/3.5-5.6' cant find much on it please!!
According to Ken Rockwell, it's not very good - and his standards are pretty low generally!
Chris, when I put my glasses during you test, I noticed a dramatic improvement in it's quality. You forgot to advise that to the audience! 😂
looks like good fun, though i lack the steady hand required to safely swab clean my sensor, and the rocket blower isn't always good enough, i'm feeling at a bit of a loss with my Sony mirrorless to be honest.
I have an EM10.2 and used to have an a7ii, i sold the Sony, what a soul less and awful camera to use.
Can you review the 7artisans 7.5mm?
The test chart building has returned 😂
I guess so much for the "f8 and be there."
Yay the old house!!
Reminds me of my 7artisans 18mm f/6.3 cap lens. Same principle, metal construction. Has a decent weight to it, given how small it is.
Do you have an Instagram where you upload pictures or anything about cameras? :)
whats an ima image corners
Did they just make the smart phone glass into a E mount lens...lol?
I've been seeing this lens advertised on my Instagram feed regularly, it does make me wonder how effective it is compared to the Olympus body cap lens (15mm f/8 & 9mm f/8) 🤔
Fun must be always!
Great review. Abysmal lens!
Look s like a good lens to use with infrared. Very nice to see that you don t need that u.v. filter junk.......
Incredible
This is very interesting.
The only lenses I know that could be even flatter are MS optics Perar series. I got a 24mm f/4. Vignetting is horrible wide open but the lens is actually quite sharp.. and it’s only 47 grams :)
Welcome back BRICK WALLLLLLLLL, welcome back dear good old friend :) Ahahaha i am getting nostalgic already, i wonder how were you feeling shooting it again Chris :)
Urgh, TBH I prefer shooting the test chart!
Well that was a waste of money, but I did enjoy seeing that lovely old apartment building again.
Did you try shooting any video with this lens? If so, how did it go?
As you'd expect, really, considering the image quality
That lens glare was very interesting..
On a Canon the 40mm is about the same size. The height is about the same level as the grip but it is a fully functional lens and probably can be bought used about the same price.
Wow that price! Seems way too steep
Olympus has 15mm f8 lenscap lens (with rangefinder style focusing knob!), and fisheye 8mm lenscap. This is the same story, but i think olympus lenses are much sharper than this one, and cheaper. I agree it is much fun to use them - they give nostalgic pointandshoot taste to your images, and have so small size to take your camera everythere
The Olympus body-cap fish-eye lens is really good in terms of sharpness and colour.
reminds me of the PQ "shield" lens
Best as always i want to ask you again what lens is Best for apsc 90d Canon at 100 400 mm sigma or tamron
i just got the sigma 100-400 for my M50, its really good lens, from alot of the reviews i thought it was going to be pretty useless indoors without flash but i took ome images of my cats nose/tongue at 400mm from as close as i could and the pics were epic.
i bought it for wildlife, pulling small birds out of trees and moon shots mostly.
i bought mine new rather than used which there are a few mainly to get the most out of it incase they don't have the lifespan of the top name ones.
@Shallow Depths i chose the sigma for cost and lighter weight for hand held
@@messylaura in greece tamron is 730€ sigma 890 but from cristofer's videos i think tamron has better vc better aperture range but i dont know if is ideal for 90d
Long time without seeing your house!
This has the image quality of a camera phone from 2004.
So is it leading in the fun department?
Hi Chris,
Would like to listen from you about FUJIFILM XM-FL 24mm 8.0 X MOUNT lens.
Check out the Konica Hexagon 17mm f16
Hello, can you please consider reviewing the Canon ef 28-300 f/3.5-5.6 L IS USM. Your review of this lens would be great, helpful and well appreciated. Thank you.
It's a very old lens now - no real plans to
@@christopherfrost Thank you
so technically it's like a pinhole cap with lens fitted on it. I have a pinhole cap and i wanted to do something similar but couldnt manage
Thanks to your review I can stop thinking about buying this lens. if I find one at a yard sale or the like I'll buy it on the cheap. Otherwise, it seems best to spend my money on more practical accessories. Merci beaucoup.
There's no proper pancake on Sony full-frame, so for $55 on eBay - why not?! I've been pleasantly surprised. It's pretty fun to use!
Hey bro, any estimate of when you plan on doing the Yongnuo 35mm 1.4? I’m getting more antsy by the day!
I was waiting for the ultrasonic autofocus version but it doesn't seem to be coming - maybe I'll test the original version soon
That’s fine because I can’t afford the ultrasonic version anyway 😛
AstrHori 18mm f/8 Shift is coming!
Looks like the aperture blades are stepped down...
Honestly, if this is gonna go for somewhere in the 100€ range (as it seems to be), I'm down. I'll just use it as a cap that happens to be a lens as well.
But otherwise its like using a full-frame camera to shoot phone pictures.
Super wide angle often r not flat field, should find out if the softness is it just out of focus at infinity....
The house!
I suppose it is sharper than the "Pro" pinhole "lenses". I'll keep using the APS-C AF pancakes on my A7II.
Informative video as always. Thank you. If you'd like to sell your Funleader 18mm f8 Cap Lens please let me know.
🤘😬🤘THE WALL!
If i get this lens i will use it for Black&White just!
What a cool little thing.
It's pretty much just a mediocre-cellphone quality, but as a cap it has the excellent ability to sit in your pocket for a fast as possible "spur of the moment" shot.
Had a nice time around Cardiff? :)
Sure
This actually looks slimmer than the sony lens cap
As others say, though I am probably not going to buy one, this is basically a body cap with a lens on it. For some reason it's in your project and some fantastic thing happens and don't have time to put the lens on I guess this would work....but a phone does the same thing and better
I think the Pentax DA 40mm f:2.8 XS is still smaller and have much better usability 🤔
This takes as good photos as my old Samsung Galaxy S2
where can i buy this lens in italy??
No idea. Google is a good start
@@christopherfrost ..nowhere to be found with the Web...☹
@@Vadaviaiciapp Wish I could help
@@christopherfrost very kind ... maybe I found something on fb 😉
At that point I might aswell use my phone...
Also why are you back at your old testing house facade?
👍🎥
This is ideal to make your $3k camera look like a Cybershot.
But but but what if you stop down?? Stop douuuwn and get to the choppaa!
Me reading the title :🤔
Me after reading the title : WTF
The m mount version let's you change focus.
Nice crepe lens
Why kickstarter was needed, if there is industar 50-2, f3.5. A lovely little pancake that is even smaller. Gives less vignetting and sharper image.
Because they needed to raise money
7Artisans released their BodyCap lens and it is seems to be much better, I have a review is interested.
I used it for a month and sold it yesterday for $86.
Agfa Clack?
Doesn’t seem to be anything like as good as the Olympus 9mm bodycap for m4/3 mount cameras even taking into account that the Oly is fishy
Full-frame to "Chinese phone" conversion kit
00:39 ((( L-MOUNT ALLIANCE!! )))
The Kit lens would actually be better in this case
