Yes. You just need to give the “dirty” safflower oil time for the paint sediments to settle at the bottom. Keep in mind though that old oil turns rancid and will smell. They’re not toxic fumes like solvent, just the smell of rancid oil which is also how your oil paints smell like. Your paints have rancid oil too.
Great idea about recycling OMS. But why is the mulling needed, since the pigments that ended up as sludge were already thoroughly ground when the paint was first made? Still, it's a very good idea and I'll try it. Thanks!
I have found also that my galkd maybe makes the sediment a little sticky …but I haven’t tried this but yes the muck colors can be nice neutrals but neutrals are like easy to make but its hard to get the one you need, you know? Anyway the galkd thing making sticky gunk is a little bit a downer in my jars
Cheryl, a quick search for 'empty paint tubes' yields results with a wide variety of sizes. Looks like simple pliers can be used to crimp the open end. I must say, this opens my eyes to a whole new world of making my own paints while keeping our environment cleaner. Thanks, Jonathan!
I love this, thank you.
That's amazing. I'm so glad I found this. Go you!
Holy cow - this NEVER crossed mind! Thank you!!!
Really clever idea. Thanks for sharing!
That was fantastic!
Never thought to do that..the things we waste as artists...
Great idea, I think you have given me a few good ideas. Thanks
Wonderful! Thank you
That's awesome man, I'm going to do this.
Nice, will give it a go.
Thank you good idea
Can you also do this with the pigment sludge if you used walnut or safflower oil to clean your brushes?

because parts of the pigments in the paint start to crystalize when settling in the gamsol

Jonathan Simon, where do you get empty tubes to put your new made paint?

this is actually what you are supposed to do lol
Sound is very bad. I cannot understand! :-(
