    I have never ever worked in my yard and stayed as clean as they did. Usually have to hose off in the yard. Her white shorts looked as clean as when she bought them. All that aside, great job.

    Grass and weeds will always find a way to grow up through crushed rocks; regardless of what fabric barrier you use.

      There are some really thick landscape fabrics available on the market. But, if in doubt, specially in problem areas, I would put down 2 layers on landscape fabric. Taking into considering drainage and overall height of the pathway, I think it would probably work just fine.

    We're doing this around our home living area and live in a high rainfall area (in winter). The ground has yellow clay under about the first 6-10 inches of brownish soil so it drains poorly and turns to mud in winter. Do you think the addition of a perforated drainage pipe just over the landscape cloth at the base of the pathway (perhaps a deeper trench in the middle of the path) would be a good idea?

    • @HughTexJudd
      @HughTexJudd Před 5 lety +5

      Justine, you will get weeds as dirt blows in naturally, falls between the rocks and settles on top of the landscape fabric. The weed seed then blows in, or gets dropped in by birds/bird poo over time. I would consider it optional, many of the pro shops around me do not use it.

    It's a lot cheaper to order from a local mulch supplier..they sell soil, muches, rocks and shells. They will ship it and dump it where you want it and you simply spread it. Lowes is much more expensive. It is a myth that landscape cloth will keep weeds off. Weeds grow regardless..leaves will accumulate and die and become "soil" for weeds. You are still going to kill weeds with landscape cloth.
