I'm tempting to buy one of these. However I would try to put it in at 180 degree rotation so the black edge doesn't cut into the text but the other end. I don't see why this couldn't fit in that manner. Glad you made a video!
Thanks! You'll need to extend the wiring out a bit to make it fit this way, but you could absolutely rotate it 180 degrees if you'd like. That black strip from the LED refractor is unfortunately unavoidable - any other options would require cutting away at the front panel of the drum machine. I opted to keep it on the left side because there's no real data that you need to see there.
You can find the kit here - reverb.com/item/59845336-hive-mind-roland-tr-505-backlight-kit-bad-lcd-repair-kit . It works for both the 505 and 626, but you'll need to add a little bit of wire (less than a foot) in order to install it in a 626
Excellent job! Probably U can save me!😢 Where can I buy a lightpanel for my suffering 626? And why I need wires, sorry, I didn't understand well on your precious video! Many thanks from 🇮🇹😊-Roman
Good question! That black line is the reflector of the LED panel, which takes the light from the LED itself and spreads it out to fill the whole shape. When developing this I had to make a choice between a thin black bar in an area of the display without text or information, or adding an additional install step that involved carefully cutting away a portion of the TR-505's housing in order to fit the larger LED panel. I decided it was best to go with the first option, as it was simpler and didn't involve any permanent modifications to the housing. This said, if you flip the panel to the other side, you get rid of the bar (but the light isn't as smooth, and there's a hexagon pattern), so there is that other option!
Thank goodness! Just ordered.

Any possibility to order the kit in Europe? Shipping from US is so expensive…

Can a pot be added to dim the backloght?
We haven't tried it, but it could be possible!
Flashy!
