  • Fighting to start up a late fifties Red Star hot bulb tractor after nearly five months of sitting quietly. Built in Budapest by the Hungarian firm of Hofherr-Schrantz-Clayton-Shuttleworth or HSCS for short, these tractors where essentially Lanz clones and shared many similarities with their German counterparts. The company changed it's name in the early fifties to Red Star Tractors after the communist takeover of Hungary in 1947 following WWII. This is their 35hp model. Filmed during the Broxburn One Cylinder Tractor Show in Lethbridge, Alberta.

very cool where was this also why did they use these engines for so long other than the simplicity reason?

That pretty much covers it, they could run on most any fuel and where incredibly easy to maintain.

+Rainhill1829 what about dirty motor oil?

If it was thin enough and filtered to some degree, yes. These engines originally ran on unrefined crude so if it was low enough viscosity to force through the injector port, it would run.

Mostly just needed the metallic gasket between the hot bulb and the head.
