In this episode of BPM we are taking a in-depth look at one of Sean’s Mini Cooper S R53 builds that he has recently finished. Wow, it’s a completely different kettle of fish to the budget BPM build! Sean takes us through the process and what modifications this car has had to get it to this level!
Be sure to check out Sean’s website to understand what he does and what he could potentially do for you if you are looking for parts, cams or to complete a full engine build, not just on R53’s but also all Mini’s, from classic to modern! He can also be found on the R53 owners page on Facebook.

I daily drive a 250+whp R53. Owed it 10 years. I use KW Mini Challenge suspension with 80/100's front & rear main springs. Porsche 911 KW helper springs. 342cm x 32mm disks with Porsche 6 pots.
Took me a long time to find parts that were up to it. I melted the weld out of two Milltek exhaust Manifolds!
Sounds like you have a great build! They are great cars with so many modifications available to them!
@@nswgb69 good weld don't melt 🫠
Got a 2009 jcw mini s,had it for about 3 years still puts a huge smile on my face every time I'm in it.best car ever.
Nice!! Definitely one of the best cars a Mini for the driving experience! We love ours, just need to get out in it more!
Yeah
...
Yeah
😂😂 So many yeah’s.. And that’s with some cut out 🙃🤣
Gotta reheat the gasket on those headlights and get them properly sealed! I know, one of mine is still fogging up after the Joey mod
Yeah we did notice this, I’m sure Sean will sort it!
Awesome cars I have 225whp and it's a weapon on track. Look forward to seeing your guys car progress 👍
Yeah definitely! This one’s got reduced ratio gearbox as well so it feels like it has more power than its got! Awesome little cars for a 1.6L engine!
This is about where my jcw clubman is as far as power is concerned.. hopefully if it doesn’t sell then I continue trying to get it to 300 whp
Nice! Hopefully not, their mint at around 220 who but it’ll be a monster at 300 whp!
I'm Joel from America... This looks like a certified ripper... Sure would love to build my 2006 r53 with some of those amazing recommendations... I too want to start a small grass roots youtube channel... Calling it Gothick Gayrog...
Glad the video is of help for your build! And go for it mate, sounds good.. great name! ✌️
Nice R53! Love my R53 in San Diego CA
I love the sc whine but it's very limited on hp output vs turbo. Sweet car!
Yeah your right, but just can’t beat that noise! 😍
Fun little track car.
They are great little cars for the track!
that sc scream
Like music to the ears! 👌
would you recommend it as a daily drive? i’m about to get one with 80k km engine and a complete engine tuning
Yeah, we’ve all daily driven them in the past! It depends what you need. I struggled with space, but I did have a new born at the time 😅 Fuel economy is not too bad when you aren’t thrashing it everywhere, and I found that they are fairly reliable if servicing etc is kept on top of. Most of all you’ll enjoy every moment & every drive you take!
What a channel 🤪
Cheers for the support joel we really appreciate it 🤙
@@BPMDevelopments 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻 Yeah man
Lovely car
Can you record it all again with decent sound .... that way we can hear what you are both saying. 🤔
Yeah we are planning on another “better” video on it and possibly some of Sean’s other cars if he’s cool with it, as this wasn’t planned so didn’t have the right gear with us 🤦♂️
Hi guys brilliant vid is the final drive kit straight cut 👌
Thanks for the feed back! It isn’t straight cut but it is Semi Helical, so it does whine quite a bit more than the standard box!
Can I have some details please
We can try and get some off the owner for you, cheers! 😊
it's semi helical,
the other 'full' conversion I have consists of straight cut gears, dog engagement and the same semi helical final drive, and is a bit shorter overall again, that one doesn't really need the clutch to shift gear but is a learning curve, it's also a higher wear box as a result
example some might relate to and is easy to observe.... the factory box in 6th for a facelift car will be doing ~23.5mph/1,000rpm
this in the clip will be doing ~20.5mph/1,000rpm, the full (dog) box will be doing closer to ~18mph/1,000rpm (eg tyres 215/45r17)
with the featured box, 1st for instance is only worth ~30mph @7krpm, 2nd is ~45mph @7krpm, I've not looked at 3rd and up tbh, from there the car is away anyway ;O)
@@ExclusiveWorkshops what's the sort of cost for the final drive kit 🤔
Great video guys 👌 Would it be possible to have the dimensions of your trailer please? I need to get one for my track R53. Cheers 👍
Cheers bud, yeah no worries it is;
Load bed Length 3.32m, load bed width 1.65m, overall trailer length 4.60m, overall trailer width 2.10m
A cracking trailer well worth the money!
@BPMDevelopments thanks so much mate 👍 really appreciate it 🙏
@@ModFix No worries mate any time! 👍🏻
Where would i get the vents that say supercharged on them?
I’m sure I saw someone selling them on the Facebook group R53 Owners Club, failing that maybe Mod a Mini or Orrange!
Tiago Ferreira '@CitroMini' (iirc)
Dont suppose you know what that phone mount is? Need a solid one like that for my racechrono phone
We’re not too sure tbh mate, we have a aluminium plate where the radio usually is in ours which we have a phone mount bolted to which doesn’t move at all!
This was my car. It’s just a mount from Amazon I bodged to fit last minute 😄 it’s not really fitted well to be honest.
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Can I get a parts list?🤤 seriously. Putting a new motor in my 2002. Love to sort out the cost.
I can try and get hold of a full spec list off Sean for you! Good luck with the build! 🤞✌️

@@ExclusiveWorkshops Cheers Sean!
I had one of these. It was an absolute shit box. Case in point. You can't remove the exhaust from under the car. You have to go through the boot and remove everything to undo a few bolts.
Not sure why you had to do that! On all the R53’s we’ve worked on we have been able to take the exhaust off from underneath!
@@BPMDevelopments bolts are over the exhaust on cooper s models no? My car was a 2005 model and me and the garage had lots of problems with it. I was under the car myself but maybe I don't have it right.
God knows what was going on there then! All bolts have been accessible from underneath on our ones!
Must just mean it being awkward to remove the header. Rest is straight forward
I've been driving a 2005 since new. No problems if you maintain it properly and know how to work on it.
Those are public roads even when you cover the speedo up.
Very true, but you are assuming there was speeding involved!
looks fine to me
Mexico baby
Shut up.
