  • I admit it, I slanted the Highlights to make Kobe look good. In all actuality, MJ is a far superior player than Kobe is (Young Kobe or Prime Kobe). From Jordan's Prime (88 to 93) he was BY FAR the best player EVER to pick up a basketball.
Michael Jordan is the Undisputed GOAT.
    Anyways, back to the video.
Kobe vs MJ in there 2nd game Head to Head. Shaq has returned for this Matchup. Jordan Scores 29 and even though Kobe came off the Bench with Limited Minutes, He still drops 20. Lakers win by 25.

Kobe shoots 45% for his career and MJ shot 49%
If you do some simple math if they both took let's say 80 shots Kobe would hit 36/80 and MJ would hit 39/80... It's not that big of a difference... The difficulty of their shots is not factored in as well. For example, 20% of Kobe's shots were from 3... Only 7% of Jordan's shots were from 3... In my opinion Kobe's 45% is more impressive than Jordan's 49% since Kobe shot a lot more 3 pointers

  • @ranon81
    @ranon81 Před 12 lety

Jordan was 33-35 years old during the 2nd 3-peat. His physical prime ended when he retired in 1993 at age 30 to go play baseball.
His numbers during the 1st 3-peat may have been a bit lower because of the defenses back then. Handcheck was legal back in those days before it was eliminated in 1994. Tougher and way more physical defenses back then.

  • @TheChannelThatTimeForgot

And finally after Kobe had that string of big assist games he said to the media 'Hell if I had known this would make the team better I would have done it ages ago' Or something to that effect.
Jordan was admittedly a task master but he was respected by his team mates. Yes, even Cartwright and Grant acknowledged Jordan's greatness despite his demanding attitude whereas players were quick to say the didn't want to play with Bryant.

Isn't it amazing how Jordan can take off 3 years, gain 30 pounds, get his ribs broke in his comeback attempt during training just before the season, play for a shitty team and STILL shoot better from the midrange than a prime 23-24 year old Kobe on similar shot attempts....And doing so on bad knees that needed surgical repair, at the ripe age of 39 and 40 years old??

I agree with a lot of what you say about Wilt. As for the most productive players to play the sport through an entire season, i'd have to go with Mike. Not even Wilt could compare to that guy's playoff numbers or total clutch performances. Wilt is the most dominant regular season player probably ever. But even he'll tell you (which he has) that he didn't have a killer instinct. He just didn't have that overdrive that MJ had.

  • @MonstarCave

  • @TheChannelThatTimeForgot

I've read the books and heard the interviews. I can be objective being a Jordan fan. MJ was notorious for being hard on his team mates, but they all respected him for being what he was - the greatest to ever play the game.
Oh please - Kobe has held onto to the ball so many times in precious situations were he was doubled and refused to give it up to others for a game winner. He only started passing because the media were crucifying him for it.

PACE does play a role in what some would call great defense....

I would state he was in prime condition because of the stable numbers he was giving compared to his first three-peat. And no to mention that even his 2001-03 numbers were still really good considering his age. This just goes back to my claim that MJ defied the common notion that NBA players go through their physical peak during their late 20's.

Then turned right around and had 45 & 10 in game 1 of the Western Finals. He had 93pts & 26reb in back to back road playoff games and nobody remembers!! Thats a DAMN shame. Essentially, people are forgetting that Kobe went from high school to the NBA. Jordan spent three years in University. He also stupidly played baseball for two years. Tack on 5 years of stats and subtract the years on the Wizards. Pretty simple who reigns supreme. Oh, and in case people were wondering, i'm a Bulls fan and ultimately believe Kobe's/Shaq's Lakers won their rings with one of the best benches ever. Not solely by their starters like the Bulls did.

There is a such thing as better career vs better player. It is possible for someone to be better than MJ, but not have a better career than MJ. The best way to judge individual players is by individual production while on the floor, and personal achievements. You can take a mediocre player and put him on a good team, and he'll get more titles than a great player on a bad team. Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain are PERFECT examples.

I'd say anyone averaging 30.4, 29.7, and 28.7 PPG is in their prime. I know when normally we say "prime" we refer to late 20's but MJ aged like a fine wine. So, some would still say the end of his second three-peat was the end of the prime Jordan.

Well truthfully MJ was still playing dominantly from the his last few years including his return from 2001-03 season, but yeah, you can tell the difference in Jordan looking back. But, I think in the last three-peat was really his swan song because those last three finals including the two against Karl Malone really took their toll on Jordan. But anyways I still think that his best year granted he did not win a ring, was his 1987-88 season averaging 35 PPG on .535.

When Lebron starts cranking out the rings, he'll be in the realm of Jordan, Kareem and Wilt. He does everything else and he's ONLY missing the rings. He has good PER and numbers to show his production during his time on the court, all he needs to do is start cranking out the rings. And in order to win rings you need at least another HOF player on the team.

Better scorer, more athletic, slightly better passer stats wise, though he's capable of going "Magic Johnson" at times, more rings as the main contributor. Better rebounder, better in clutch (Kobe has the most game winners, but also has the most misses in general, including game winners, statistically, MJ made about half his shots, Kobe doesn't even make 1 in 3 game winning attempts.). More efficient. Willpower more or less equal. And far more dominant in the playoffs, especially the finals.

Look, i'm not here to argue about Wilt. And I never stated that the playoffs painted the whole picture. I just simply said that between the 2 players, the playoffs is what sets them apart. Jordan had more production in the Playoffs. IMO - Wilt is no.2 greatest player of all time.
