    Simply put The Row is Art like Celine is Art both are trail blazers in the way they free the human spirit to defend privacy which is the epitome of human freedom.

      That is indeed beautifully put. But it’s just sent my head into a spin. And I’m aware this is completely off topic.
      In recent years it feels like culturally we’ve been pushed into believing the exact opposite is true. With our obsession of baring all, that sharing ‘our truths’ to the world will set us free. From our thoughts to our bodies. There’s currently quite the ‘main character’ syndrome perpetuated by social media. Celebrity tell-alls and reality tv certainly hasn’t helped.
      I’ve even seen many a comment saying a lack of social media is a ‘red flag’, that it must mean the person is shady or hiding the truth. I’ve seen this comment in regards to dating, to job interviewers and prospective landlords requesting all accounts. I’m quite a private person and rarely use social media.
      When did the concept of freedom flip from the right to defend privacy -because there’s something inherently sacred about that, to the exact opposite? That if you’re not ‘freely’ sharing everything on multiple active social media accounts then it must mean something nefarious?!
      Edit: now that I’ve got my existential crisis out of the way, I really love your videos Mary! You put great thought and time into each one, I really appreciate your perspectives and feel a greater understanding and appreciation of each topic. You’re warm and down to earth style (excuse the pun) feels like I’m listening to a friend sharing and explaining their passion.

      @@batubop651 clear and succinct. It was my point to hopefully send a message with my post that Celine and The Row are Trail Blazers in their esthetic not bring solely about simple lines that exude elegant privacy that also brings fashion forward to respecting individuality not trends. Privacy is freedom. I am so turn off by the over exposure in all forms of social media/ including Fashion week shows and print/ this trend in particular has brought down many a heritage house.

    The Row has never been about trend but on a timeless pieces that a select group of people can afford to wear. The notion around The Row being a recession proof brand might want to go to their nearest high-end mall to see the price. Their exclusivity extends also on not having a boutique - you almost have to look for it, hidden somewhere and you feel as though you need your imaginary VIP card to be part of The Row. In my eyes, The Brand truly defines what luxury is supposed to be which is exclusivity .

    I think your point about the organic shapes and lines IS a testament to The Row's perspective on Art Nouveau - a return to natural and organic forms; movement and asymmetry; breaking through rigid structures. Not necessarily emulating Art Nouveau, but translating the ethos/spirit of Art Nouveau through the filter that is The Row's design philosophy.

    The Row is to American what Hermes is to France (and everywhere else.lol) Exceptional quality, timeless pieces and doesn’t scream “designer” all over it. I have had some of my Row pieces for eight or more years. I mix and match from years ago with todays purchases. I have this weird feeling The Row might get purchased by LVMH or one of the other large luxury conglomerates. Its just a feeling, It would be such a shame though if that happened. Loro Piana was purchased recently by LVMH and I really hope the quality doesn’t suffer. I think it would be interesting if you did a “get to know me” video so your views could better understand your connection to fashion and art. Maybe you have done one already, I’ll have to check to see. you have a strong interest in art, architecture, color and fashion, your videos are very engaging and interesting and multi perspective

    What a fascinating video; I learned so much. I saw an Annie and Joseph Albers exhibit in Vienna, years ago, and the Tate did a terrific Annie Albers exhibit a while ago yet I never really took their use of colour on board the same way I did, say, Van Gogh's. I look at a Van Gogh and think, "Ok, those colours work together" and then use them in an outfit. I am now going to revisit the amazing Albers. Thank you so much for the work you put into your videos. I really appreciate them.

    I love your commentary and exploration into The Row's inspirations! It's such an interesting era we live in that these trending words or phrases (mainly driven by social media) can define such momentary "trends" like recession core (aka anti-trend/fashion), while brands like The Row and many others have been doing anti-trend since their inceptions. Brands that change their tune so quickly to keep up with trends will always get buyers yes, but are constantly having to play catch up and "predict" what's on the horizon. This makes them feel disingenuous and often stale to me, which is why I love the brands we always talk about! I know that even though they may be more so in the forefront now on social media, the lasting clients will remain, and as soon as the next trend cycles around, the people who just bought into the idea of "recession core" will follow whatever their being sold next season.

    • @MarysRoom
      @MarysRoom  Před rokem +1

      1000% Yeah I think while other trendy brands are hoping onto what sells, the real IFYKYK aspect of The Row is what the other brands don't get. It's exactly that, "anti-trend" and why people buy The Row (and other brands like it) is their uncompromising integrity. Thank you so much for watching and so glad I found your channel. It's nice to know there are others that get it ❤ ❤

    Very nice work indeed. Bela Lugosi’s dead is the archetypal goth song. I remember listening to it in the 80s and even then it was kind of so goth it was too goth. I have nio idea how it connects to the Olsen’s deal, but they are clearly very deliberate (who knew?) in all of their choices, so I would assume it is as much of an inspiration as the viauals on their feed.

    I know I am late to the party but thank you for such your thoughtful review of The Row and their overall style and point of view.
    My attraction to The Row is their artistic take on timeless minimalism that lend these pieces to be worn in almost any sequence resulting in flawless styling. I feel as if I am compiling a museum collection of style from which I can pull from to create looks that seem to always work, look chic and are so very current.
    I am also a fan of incredibly well made in Europe pieces that do not attract too much of the wrong attention (I feel this is one of the major reasons for the rise of "quiet luxury") thus making me feel a bit more safe when traveling especially during the current economy.

    I think The Row’s decision not to post video of their collection to social media is absolutely genius. I also love how consistent they’ve been as a brand since inception. The idea that brands have to do something “new” and “fresh” is so laughable and overrated. For example I’ve seen many people complain about Chanel doing yet another tweed jacket or knit piece and I just find that so comical. Consumers want brands they can rely on to keep coming back to for the same beautiful things that make them unique as a style.
