      With how good they've made Rangers if they were insisting on releasing old boxed sets (the collector in me rebels slightly though I can see it both ways) then Bugman's Rangers would have been a better bet than the Dragon Company. The 80s ones are armed to the teeth while the 90s ones have big axes, there are reasons to like both.

    I'm looking to get some The Assault Group Dwarf Empire figures to be Imperial Dwarf mercenaries for my Empire army. Hopefully the Empire book will include Halflings as a unit, and I'll have a characterful multi-cultural/racial army with humans, ogres, dwarfs and halflings! Using Wargames Atlantic Ogres and Halflings, using beard-less Warlord landsknect heads on the halflings.

    Spent £0 as intended though will pick the book up at some point. Am slightly envious on some fronts, but couldn't justify buying anything as there isn't really anything there that I really need for my Dwarfs other than versions of a couple of things that I don't really like.
    Things I would have liked to buy:
    Goblin Hewer - way after the time I was involved in Warhammer (only got back into things the last year or two), but I can't help but like the model and the daft idea.
    Slayers - not my favourite ones, but still pretty good - decided that picking up the odd one here and there from Ebay down the line will end up with a better selection.
    Anvil - I feel I would like the option to use one, but I'm not that enthusiastic about it as a concept or as a model.
    Marauder Dwarfs (won't call them 'Imperial' as they weren't and won't ever be to me even if GW are obviously well within their rights to change all that) - too expensive to get a unit and apparently you can't buy enough for that anyway. Not the very best Marauder Dwarfs anyway, would have been more interested in the original Thunderers or Quarrellers. I do like them though.
    I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of your purchases!

    • @Andy2D6

      @@ClydeMillerWynant I think the Dwarfs are the only army I can go all-in on like this. I'd be on the streets if I tried to keep up with any other Old World armies the same way.
      The Goblin Hewer existed during the brief period I was out of the hobby, so it almost took on a mythical quality for me. Like the 80s Organ Gun, I'd seen pictures of it but never had the chance to buy it.

      Agee with you on the thunderers and quarrelers, those are great and I am lucky to have a unit of each. Always disliked those goofy spear dwarves, would not touch them with a life size replica of the spears they are holding.

      @ClydeMillerWynant Před měsícem

      @@walterdimmick653 Those first Thunderers are brilliant. A little jealous as I only have four though at least that includes two out of three of what I think are the very best ones - the guy with the hood in the shooting position and the one with the fur cap and the gun upright. I don't have any of the Quarrellers - think they're a bit of a mixed bag with the best ones being really excellent. I have Perry ones instead, the models are good but they have oversized plastic crossbows which I'm not so keen on. My absolute favourites are the handful of Perry ones with metal crossbows, don't have them either but might try to pick one or two of them up on Ebay as champions for the others.

    I'd be surprised if the Goblobber was rereleased as there's already a grudgethrower in the release. If you want a Goblobber then Ebay can be your friend. It's only really expensive if you want the original box (GW aren't going to sell you that anyway) and all of the crew. The machine itself goes fairly regularly for about £25 and three of the crew are always available at the cheaper end of 80s Dwarfs while the other three are always very expensive. Essentially if you can live without the chef & pig and the guy sitting on the goblin while smoking a pipe then it can be done without going too mad. Easy for me to say as I only needed the machine as that somehow went missing while I still had everything else including the box, but I did look at everything else while I was at it.

    Good luck with your recovery from knee surgery. I completely changed my planned order. Only ordered the arcane journal because in my view the book itself is a colossal design failure and it just killed my enthusiasm for "extra models" for sake of painting and collecting. I do have an extensive painted existing collection from whfb but the terrible rules are just a real disappointment. The only thing that saved the day for me was that one of the local hobby stores was having a hobby "garage sale" event where people could come in and set up their various used games they wanted to sell and picked up a metal chief engineer Burlock Damminson in green blister pack for $20 and metal hammerer command in blister for $15.

      @@walterdimmick653 What were you hoping for from the book?

    • @walterdimmick653
      @walterdimmick653 Před měsícem

      @@Andy2D6 Well I did not have a specific wish list at all. I hoped for some rules or list building options that would make the table top experience more fun for myself and my opponents who have actually been playing warhammer for decades or even a skilled player that has only being playing a few months or a year. Dwarf players in TOW world did not need more rules that are just fluffy. We have plenty of interesting background and obviously appealing models. In order to make the dwarves more dynamic, as you of course know well there must be some combination of rules that make them less static and requires the enemy to engage them with their shooting. Because TOW is played almost exclusively as a kill point game the latter points of failure in the army design are worse than ever in the current game environment.
      I can think of many ways to accomplish the latter points while maintaining the dwarven flavor and I am certain there are many others at GW and among experienced players that could also find many good solutions. The question is: why have they (GW) never really implemented a good set of table top rules for dwarves in the history of the army. There are already plenty of videos about the book, some which I feel were really trying a little bit too hard to paint a rosy picture of the book so I am not going to go into specific detail about units. For me, both of the alternate lists are just awful and the Royal Clan list in particular is an Elon Musk Tesla cybertruck level of design failure. In my opinion it is not fit for the purpose of table top enjoyment for either player. Some of the specific unit rules and unneeded limitations or drawbacks are just criminally stupid.
      I have plenty of armies so its not like I am in any need for the Dwarves to be a top or even near top tier army. After TOW rules first came out and I had reviewed the rules my assessment was that I would use my dwarf army in games when trying to get someone interested in playing TOW. So kind of a training army because they are all painted and lots of people who are not even into warhammer like the whole dwarf aesthetic. After feedback from my opponents I have decided this would not be a good idea. Maybe they will become useful for the first time in AoS or one of my friends will want to try them out for a change up.
      Otherwise until they get better rules they will sit in the glass cabinets looking out over my gaming table while other armies kill orcs and goblins, win renown and glory while heavily intoxicated. The sad little fellows will be doing what they do best, not moving much and crying in their beer on account of what the cruel hand of fate has decreed for them.

    I don't think it's controversial at all to not like that command group. The battle standard is kind of good, but the chap holding it feels like just another standard bearer rather than the second most important Dwarf in your army. The other two are pretty horrible especially the Slayer.
    My view that the Engineers are also garbage might be a bit more controversial, but I really can't get along with any of the Engineer character models even from quite a long time ago. I just find them way over the top. My Engineer is the chap sitting on the goblin from the Goblobber crew that I mentioned in another post and if I need any more then there are other 'Sapper' models from back then that also fit the bill.
    Could probably do with another Runesmith, but I find it hard to get excited about the model in this release. The only one I have is Kragg the Grim who I really do like, finding it hard to pick a second one that is anywhere near as good.
