I don't understand the negative comments on this thread! "Underwhelming? Flat? Student? No debth" ???? 😧Whaat? I find her performance the exact opposite... emotionally engaging, as she lives through the music with not just her instrument, but her body language and face WITHOUT OVERDOING IT. And she sounds amazing! We all know famous violinists who play technically perfectly, but they are like robots, and are boring to watch. (or the ones who overact and look silly...lol) Sumina is "organic" and extremely entertaining. There is a lot more to entertainment than just perfect technique and not messing up. But what do I know...I am only a beginner. But hey, if you agree, give this a thumb up 👍
She's going to be huge, I know it. I'm not an expert, but I recognize that extra unique something that makes an entertainer stand out amongst the best of the best, and she's got it!

She is a very fine player, and she puts a lot of energy into her performances. It is rare that it would bother me, but having listened to a whole range of her performances, I just don't like what comes out of her instrument. Her fiddle sounds one-dimensional and brittle to me. Very bright but little warmth. Maybe it is the recordings.

People get a feeling of superiority by putting others down while sitting on their couches doing nothing.
She plays all of her performances with such a special personality trait that others playing the same piece just will never be able to replicate. A true one of a kind artist.
Sumina, you should have been in the final. No matter, when you play in Carnegie Hall I'll surely buy a ticket!

her Half Tiger, Half Poet seems to me the most daring and unconventional, and therefore the most connected to the composition. she didn't try to make it pretty. I loved it

Super impressed. She plays with panache, but not to the point of triviality. She has the dash in the virtuoso passages. Her Sautille bow and flying staccato are super impressive. The up-bow staccato she throws in briefly in the Havanaise comes across super organically -- you almost don't notice it -- I'm so impressed that *she does up-bow staccato without calling attention to it*. I could go on. Super enjoyable, musically. Tiny misteps, tiny quibbles here and there, just don't matter. Love it! :)

I feel bad for her on that one part on the half tiger half poem at 21:20. I just feel bad for her, even though my ears were bleeding at that one part, I feel bad for her, but she did very well on everything so thumbs up.

Sounds like a chase scene or a psychological breakdown or a war...
It would fit in a movie, or video game... but not music fit for enjoyment as music... can't tell if she performed it well or not because I probably made some of these sounds first time picking up a fiddle... not on purpose... that's the difference
I enjoy the part after that where she steps away from the stand... it sounds like later in the same piece but music this time

I wanna learn violin so badly, but i am screwed. I cant breathe due to a rare esophageal condition, i have a slight carpal cannal syndrome(could still play though), and i have social anxiety that would prevent me from eye contact with a teacher. I must have done something really bad in previous life, because why could someone not learn this beautiful instrument if she/he wants it so much. This earth is hell.
u dont have to look your teacher in his eye lol if you want to learn it just do it... you just have to look at his hands and his arms. And try to imagine the diffrent colours of music
Don't look at the teacher at all, then. You can maybe start with online classes just showing your left hand and violin. If that seems overwhelming, go in steps. Don't make that stop you from learning an instrument, it's an otherworldly experience

Yes I feel like she sounded dry in most of the Menuhin competition video. Not surprised that she can’t make it to the finals, other contestants are just too brilliants !
