- Here's the very first time Sam Crenshaw appeared on TVO in a pilot for a series entitled MUSIC, INC, starring the Canadian Brass. The puppet was designed by Noreen Young, and voiced and operated by Bob Dermer. The character was brought back in 1981 for Today's Special.
Retrontario’s primary mission is the preservation, research and exhibition of rare videotape recordings (1970s to 1990s) recorded off of any and all Ontario (and surrounding area) TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. We also hope to create an ongoing oral history of this content through comments left below the videos. Canada got started the whole educational programming worldwide, saw the Earnie Combs documentary for Mr. Dressup and it brought me to tears, I had no idea we had such an influence.
The Elephant Show, Fred Penners Place, Mr. Dressup, etc etc etc etc etc!
Yes!!!! I loved this shown when I was a kid! I used to have dreams about it when I got older. The mannequin that comes alive when his hat is on. Love this channel.

I thought Sam Crenshaw was a sailor on the Merchant Marines, before he became a security guard/night watchman for a department store on Today’s Special. Here they have him as a handyman, and this was his 1979 TV debut??? Unless he has a twin brother whom he never mentioned of, there’s something fishy about his career history. I am beginning to think that Sam Crenshaw only worked briefly as a sailor on the Merchant Marines for only a year and a half, and before that spend his days as a handyman doing maintenance and repairs for various buildings in the city of Toronto.
Oh cool! I remember him just always being there. I would be soooo mad if I missed what the Special was and made any adult around try to help me figure it out. Haha
