    It's called layering. I was fascinated with it back when I was first introduced to Enya's music. After she left Clanad (her family band) she had to find a way to have the sound of many people. From Orinoco Flow to Caribbean Blue, she layered her voice and it was magical. I started experimenting with the idea myself when I was 19, (45 now) but I am far from a singer. I stuck with instruments instead. At least they didn't sound like cat dying. Yeah, I was that bad. Good stuff young lady. Keep up the good work.

    Nicely done! Your choral emulation was excellent. As a bass choral singer, it was interesting to see your process for this. The elderly female vocalist (and I know many) will typically still retain their vocal strength, but their vibrato will slow and the amplitude will increase, becoming more warbley. I love your behind-the-score videos like this. Thank you so much.

    As I was watching your creative technique and demonstration of the process, I had a flood of images of the late, great Karen Carpenter, over dubbing in the recording studio... and you dear, having the advantage of a home studio to implement your ideas, at will. Then, I had an image of you calling it a night.. and with that, your assigned angel slips out of the room and goes to the spiritual cafe to meet up with other angels taking a break. As your angel joins the others, he is greeted by, "Did Malukah nail that pitch she was trying for?" Your angel's reply blew me away, " The child within, assisted with the lower range'.., and then said, "I have the best assignment ever".

    Please forgive me if this question sounds stupid: Wouldn't it be easier to sing in a voice and vocal range you're comfortable with, and then transpose and/or add effects to the recorded voice track to generate the desired choir effect? I know there's some quite good software out there on the market, although quite expensive I assume.
    Not to say the effort you put into this wonderful arrangement isn't appreciated. On the contrary, the song sounds wonderful!

    • @veranet99
      @veranet99 Před 4 lety +1

    • @malufenix
      @malufenix  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey Wolf! Yeeees! well... I don't know if it would be easier, as the processing itself would take time, too. But, I am super curious to try this using software in a future project. There's a setting you can alter called Formants and this changes the harmonics of the sound. I remember years ago I tried it but wasn't happy with the results. BUT, it's something I think I could learn and improve on and definitely curious to try it! Thanks for watching and for asking!!!

    • @wolflone249
      @wolflone249 Před 4 lety

      veranet That thought also crossed my mind. But there does exist a healthy balance between old-school and new age.
      I think what you’re referring to is “auto-tune” which is not what I meant. The principle might be similar yes, but it can also be used to achieve certain effects beyond “singing” correctly. 😉

    • @wolflone249
      @wolflone249 Před 4 lety

      Malukah Nothing is easy at the beginning. I have learned this many times now, most recently with learning to play the piano and also learning Spanish. 😉 One could say that one of your earlier songs were one of the pebbles that started my journey of learning the piano.
      Anyway, I think with today’s software almost anything is possible, assuming one is willing to dish out lots of money for the programs. Heck, even sound design and sound engineering already exist at universities.
      There’s always some pros and cons of digital and acoustic. I do have a Roland Keyboard and a Bösendorfer acoustic grand at home. Yes acoustic generally sounds better, but you can add so many fun and useful things with a keyboard as well.

      @@wolflone249 Yup, that's what I was thinking. Too many pop singers abuse that tool. Thanks for the clarification. 🙂

    Malukah should show up as a bard in some sword and sorcery triple A games. Can some game company turn her into an in-game bard npc??
