i one a 2013 GC overland, to answer your questions, yes the 5.7 hemi has held up incredibly and I just hit 80k miles without any problems. The air suspension on the other hand has been not so great, alot of the times after being parked for a few hours the car is at a rlly awkward angle even while driving, but when parked its worse, its like the front suspension is at the lowest position possible, but the rear is at its highest, I am not sure why, I got this car as a hand me down when my sister moved for college and I havent asked my dad about it. THis also causes an issue where if you dont give the suspension enough time (4-7 minutes after startup) to rise up and you drive off, your whole car starts bouncing up and down as you drive but it goes away after a few minutes but still kinda embarrassing, this is also where the Remote Start comes in handy. Some other problems are the wood trim peeling and falling right off which has happened on all panels where it has trim and it looks horrendous and mismatched and another thing is a peeling leather dash, which is so bad and so common with the GC that jeep even had to issue a recall, but I was unaware of the recall at the time at the time it was in effect. A part from these issues, it is awesome to drive, especially bc of the Hemi, the interior is really nice with the Brown leather, heated and colled seats, heated steering wheels, its so luxurious for its time and so many safety features too. the looks are also really modern as well.
@@austinblair2057 yes I love it, very good car, just some issues now and then, I actually repaired the air suspension issue, it was two $40 parts that had to be replaced and now it works fine.

I fell in love with it just by driving it around six blocks. Now I can’t stop thinking about getting it. They have V6 engine not the V8 Hemi but I was loving the ride anyways. Nice video thank You.
The leather was “Saddle Brown” and was truly Saddle quality leather. To this day that was the best leather they have ever had. The Laguna Leather and The Palermo leather in today’s summits don’t come close.
Don't do this professionally? Seriously gotta be one of the best and most in depth review of every feature I had questions about. Alot of the dealer sites I'm looking at used ones seem to not mention the pano sunroof or the leveling feature of the car.
Appreciate that John! Nothing I do professionally, just a car enthusiast who also enjoys making videos. Glad you found the video useful and wish you the best in your vehicle search! Through the years I’ve owned two WK2s, this 2011 and a 2015 and both were very reliable. While the 2015 did have the newer interior and 8 speed ZF transmission, my wife and I both preferred the 2011. It seemed to have more interior space and better ride quality. Both had air suspension, the 2015 just felt firmer.
Thank you so much for your detailed review, you covered all the major points, great job man, thanks to you I've made up my mind and this is the vehicle that I'm gonna get
I'm glad you love your Grand Cherokee Zach! We had to replace the water pump on ours as well; Must be a weak link on the V8 engine. Thankfully the repair was covered under warranty.
I have a 13 Overland and it has this same interior. The only difference I noticed was you have different mats, with the brown around the border of the mat..the Grill, and the foglight surrounds being chrome. I'm going to get the chrome bezels too but not the grill. Thinking of swapping to a 2014 grill with the inlay'd paint, FYI The "Haul/Tow" mode is also good for driving in the mountains, limits trans shifting to keep the trans from overheating.
Great video. Odd the first video I pick is a G8 owner. As I watch this my G8 is away for winter also. Hoping to get the wife a 2014 overland but having trouble looking at anything with the V6 in it after driving a G8 for a few years lol.

I guess it would have to depend on your mileage. I purchased it the same day I picked up my Summit 6/2011. The cost of the max care was $2500.00. Considering the standard hundred thousand mile Warrenty was 1500 It didn't seem to be a bad deal. Hope this helps, good luck

Great review!!! I’m looking at purchasing a 2013 Overland Summit edition to go off-roading. Nothing to serious. Did you know the Cherokee is based off the Mercedes ML/GL suv models. I have a GL 450 and it has the same air ride suspension/instrument cluster and window controls. Quadra Trac is Mercedes 4matic system. It’s from the Diamler/Chrysler days. What issues have you ran into with the Summit?
I have a 2013 GC overland with the powered liftgate. How can I open the liftgate manually in case if there is a problem and the liftgate cannot be opened by remote and by the handle and I want to replace the electric lifter or the air strut? Wow! That is incredible! Thank you so much for sharing this example of excellent reliability. We have owned 2 of the WK2 Jeep's, with a total of ~120k miles driven during our ownership period and neither had any major issues. The only thing that failed on each was the water pump (weaping coolant) but it appears that was a common weak point on the 5.7L. Thanks again!

Sterling, thank you for watching! I'm glad this video was helpful for you! We have actually sold this Grand Cherokee (GC) , but we did drive it for ~75,000 miles and I'd be happy to give you a high level overview of our experience. Overall the GC was a great vehicle for our family and it gave us minimal issues over the 4 years we owned it. As you could see in the video, it had ~70,000 miles at the time of filming and we sold it private party with 145,000 miles. Over this duration the only mechanical issue we had was a failed water pump which was covered on the 5 year/100,000 miles powertrain warranty. Note that this warranty was only offered until 2015, and then dropped for 2016+ units. I had simply noticed the small coolant leak when I was refilling the windshield washer fluid and took it in for repair. It never left us stranded or anything of the sort. Right before the 100,000 warranty expired, we took it in for a full inspection and they found a small leak in the exhaust manifold and replaced that free of charge under warranty. Other than those two issues, it was trouble free over the duration of our ownership. The towing capability of the 5.7 served our needs quite well, it was very smooth on the expressway, and returned respectable fuel economy. We had actually sold this and purchased a 2015 Summit, and found that we enjoyed the 2011 MORE than the 2015 as we felt the build quality actually went down a couple notches. Additionally, we preferred the overall layout of the 2011-2013 interior as the dash was a bit further forward and gave the cabin a more spacious feeling. To answer your question on the ventilated seats, they work fine for what they are. We personally didn't use them very often as the camel interior didn't get too hot in the summer heat. I also found the seats to feel kind of "odd" when ventilation was on. It almost had a feeling like a had wet pants on as your rear end feels cool but the rest of your leg is warm. Hard to explain really! I also wanted to note that the we found the heated seats to be lacking a bit. It would take quite a while for them to heat up, which was odd since the heated steering wheel would heat in ~30 seconds. Please excuse the long response. I hope you found this feedback somewhat helpful. Best of luck in your search for a new GC! I'm sure you're going to love it. Regards, Apex Reviews
@@ApexReviewsOfficial Thank you for the long review! I am a detailed person and appreciate it. I am looking at one listed for 10K but I won't spend that much on it. Very good to know of how you prefer the 2011 more in some ways. Look forward to seeing your future videos --Sterling
I have owned my 2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo (3.6L w/177K) for 2 years,, not as many features as the Summit. I have had spent approximately $5K in repairs (T-case, all 4 blendoor valves, HVAC fan & module, rear diff. pinion seal and a couple other repairs that I’m unable to recall to list). It is a lovely vehicle & it does ride nice (shocks & brakes are still good). Looking at it in a philosophical view, it’s cheaper to hang on to it for a while longer & hopefully I’ll have no more major repairs than to pay $30K-$50K for something newer.
That’s not terrible considering the mileage. I’ve learned that these are very sensitive to not have fluids changed regularly. I changed all fluids every 24k - 30k with mopar fluids. Other than that I’ve replaced a blend door, blower motor, condenser, windshield cowl (rubber windshield seal was drying out), and the driveshaft that I destroyed when I bottomed out.
I would def upgrade the engine oil cooler housing with the newer 2014+ design. You’ll have to use a 2014+ oil filter, but it doesn’t have the wear defect the older design has.
@@Cleaning_Hero: thank you for the suggestion. Ironically my oil cooler is leaking and I’m considering replace it in the future with an all metal oil cooler (after market). However what is most important right now is to repair the notorious ticking sound coming from the engine. I’m quite certain that there are failed rocker arm bearings but I won’t know how many until the heads are removed. Hopefully, the camshaft lobes and the lifters are ok, otherwise I’ll have to pour even more money to get it resolved (and it’s becoming quite a piss off). Also as an update, I’m having all of the struts/shocks replaced soon (putting in Bildsteins). I have also had the computer module replaced (TWICE, good thing the second computer module was still under warranty) as well as the alternator) got replaced. As well as the manual door lock needs repair/replacement too.
This is the exact car I am looking for , this or a 2012, if anyone knows which year is preferable,(and why) let me know, but one thing for sure, there are not many of these around. I live in South Florida and the closest one was in Wesley Chapel, Fl. which is the other side of the state, after that I think the closest one was in Virginia. anyway congrats to you, this is a great machine.
Thank you for posting this video I had just bought this vehicle & no manuals whatsoever because it is used. Very helpful indeed. Okay dumb question LOL is there a button for the mirrors if so where is it? Thanks in advanced.
That's pretty funny, we also just got this exact model/color. and traded in our 05 limited with the 5.7. our 05 was the silver tho, and I actually would have preferred that color again. but what are the odds that we both traded in the same thing for the same thing.
the 05 had more room between the front seats, our dogs sit on a pillow there and used to fit well, not so much now, more one at a time. also feels less powerful, and I dont like that it can be knocked into reverse if the dogs slip off the pillow. Otherwise, this was a nice trade and lots more on this. love the heated steering wheel and the cooled seats.
since all gas stations now have 85 gas how does ur vehicle doing also how much do u spend on full gas tank and size of tank and when u are full how many miles per empty u get
I have the same 2011 Jeep GC Overland , mine lowers to the ground for easy exit/ entry mode each evening. I cannot find the option to turn this off so in cold Montana winters the suspension stays up so as not to harm the system. It does not like cold weather. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
I am evaluating this exact model right now. Considering buying it. How has it held up? Any hints on what to inspect in this car as a five year old, 54,000 mile one owner vehicle? TSAVO
I have the lifetime max care. So this will be my 11 yo son's first car lol. I heard the 2014 has issues. If you think about it you bought a M350 Benz for half the cash in the 2011
The 11s are suppose to have lots of issues to but going by personal experience, mine has been fine. I dont trust the only ratings. Jeep manufacturs are large volume of vehicles and most people are only inclined to review them when they wanna complain. We dont see the people that are having positive experiences which are probably the majority of owners.
Because of this video it showed me all the options clearly and now I own a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with 33000 mi. Not summit as I did not need all the extras. I love it. Thanks again for a great video.
do you think this would be a good first car for a senior in high school going into their freshmen year of college? I'm looking for a car that I want to last a long time I'm a big fan of jeeps but I hear they have a lot of problems.
TrendyCaliOG Hello! Thanks for watching the video on our Grand Cherokee! As far as this being a first car, its foundation is great. It's a 4WD, safe and well built SUV. However, with this being the Overland Summit it does have some fairly expensive (and useful) features that are great when they work, but not so great if they were to break. For example, some of the Grand Cherokees have Quadra-Life air suspension. It's a great system and makes for a great ride, however, each tire has a spring/shock assembly that costs over $1,200 a piece. If one goes out, that is a large cost compared to the $200 a normal shock may cost. We did have one of our headlights go out and because they're HID the bulb itself was ~$280 without installation (requires the front bumper to be removed). I guess what I'm trying to get at is the cost of ownership on this model is higher than the Laredo or Limited models (some Limiteds have QL), so you will have to budget for some potentially expensive repairs. If I were you, I would spring for a nicely loaded Limited and wait on the Overland or Overland Summit until you have a higher income. However, you might be fairly well-off and the repair bills may not matter. In that instance, you only live once so why not buy the Overland :)
I saw when you were in aux mode it showed your LG g2 in there with your ipod, my question is you play music from your phone cordless? (through Bluetooth) Thanks!
My average is around 13-14mpg. I drive in the city quite a bit and when I am on the expressway I'm not exactly what you would consider a slow driver so that goes into the average total. I did get that flashlight seated properly after the review!
Hazards, I think I have the GC Summit edition but the upholstery Summit logo and the exterior Summit portion of the Overland badge is missing. I do have the saddle Nappa leather interior though. My grill is black however and my wheels are 20" but not chromed. Thoughts?
Hi Joseph. I believe I mentioned in the video that the Saddle Nappa leather interior was exclusive to the Summit, but it's not. You have a Overland trim, that wasn't equipped with the Summit Package. You would have similar rims but they wouldn't be chromed, the grill inserts would be black and you wouldn't have the summit stitching on the button of your overland logo of the seats (or trunk badge). You can refer to www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_overland_summit.htm to see exact details about the summit package. Also, your window sticker would show the package add on. I believe its around $4,750-$5,500 dollars. Take care!
sold on this! recently moved to the countryside of Australia, requires a beefy vehicle with a beefy motor and some damn luxury, seems like this has it all at a great price. Do you know much about the v6 3.0 diesel? we have that in Australia, probably the better option in terms of fuel economy / towing
cizlol I'm glad you like my video! This WK2 has been a very reliable vehicle for our family, I'm sure you will love it! I can't comment on the 3.0L Diesel as they are not available in the US.
Mine has been fantastic with everything still working. It had some growing pains when i first got it but its been very good to me.
@@austinblair2057 yes I love it, very good car, just some issues now and then, I actually repaired the air suspension issue, it was two $40 parts that had to be replaced and now it works fine.
I own a 2009 BMW X3 3.0XDrive had it
seen 2012. I’m like BMW fan I love BMW.
My wife Aunt came to visit us and let me Drive the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland they just got at a car auction.
One of the best best videos I ever saw
Both had air suspension, the 2015 just felt firmer.
ty I've learned so much just by watching this video and i didn't even know i could watch movies lol
Thank you so much for your detailed review, you covered all the major points, great job man, thanks to you I've made up my mind and this is the vehicle that I'm gonna get
VERY INFORMATIVE
THANKYOU
I HAVE THE 2013 OVERLAND SUMMIT AND I LOVE IT❤
SAME COLOR SEATS AND INTERIOR AS YOURS....
I too drive this Summit edition model since 2011. Absolutely love it ! The only issue that I have had has been the Water Pump and Belt.
I'm glad you love your Grand Cherokee Zach! We had to replace the water pump on ours as well; Must be a weak link on the V8 engine. Thankfully the repair was covered under warranty.
there was a fuel pump relay recall on all 2011 dodge jeep charkee and dodge darango
Great review, Looking at one and this answered a lot of questions . Thanks
Thanks alot i just got the laredo 2011 and love ur video. Thanks again
My dream car,i dont like 2014 model,to flashy for me,i like this one!
Thanks man!
Great video. Odd the first video I pick is a G8 owner. As I watch this my G8 is away for winter also. Hoping to get the wife a 2014 overland but having trouble looking at anything with the V6 in it after driving a G8 for a few years lol.
Great video you explained the car more than keep it self did
nice that two tone looks nice, the whole vehicle looks like uts in good shape
Nice video man I'm used car dealer I sell a lot of Corvettes Chevy trucks and Grand Cherokee's this Jeep is really clean for 70000 miles enjoy your Jeep really nice video kinda long but actually really good you showed great details of that Jeep great video
Thanks George! I bought it from the original owner and he used it for business travel. He said that he never used the rear seats or the rear hatch once. Sorry about the length as well, about twenty minutes into the video I realized I was taking a long time and tried to speed it up. Thanks for watching though!
Incredible video. Very thorough.😅
Great vid... I am picking up my 2011 Overland in two days but I learned quite a bit more from your video than the salesman knew. Thanks
I'm glad to hear that Bob. I hope you enjoy your GC as much as I have. I'm not sure if your aware of the website but check out www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2menu.htm . It has a lot more information about the vehicle as well...
I guess it would have to depend on your mileage. I purchased it the same day I picked up my Summit 6/2011. The cost of the max care was $2500.00. Considering the standard hundred thousand mile Warrenty was 1500 It didn't seem to be a bad deal. Hope this helps, good luck
My brother has this exact Jeep, it is a bad ass Jeep he had rockrails installed on it and takes it to Hells Revenge in Moab Utah, and it goes into performance mode at 90 MPH
Durable suv
Great review!!! I’m looking at purchasing a 2013 Overland Summit edition to go off-roading. Nothing to serious. Did you know the Cherokee is based off the Mercedes ML/GL suv models. I have a GL 450 and it has the same air ride suspension/instrument cluster and window controls. Quadra Trac is Mercedes 4matic system. It’s from the Diamler/Chrysler days. What issues have you ran into with the Summit?
Awesome i have the same jeep grand Cherokee overland summit 2012
So with how many years it’s been since you made this, do you still have this vehicle and have you had any major or expensive issues with it?
Great indepth review. Thank you
Very in depth review. Thanks
I have a 2013 GC overland with the powered liftgate.
How can I open the liftgate manually in case if there is a problem and the liftgate cannot be opened by remote and by the handle and I want to replace the electric lifter or the air strut?
Could you please make a video showing that because there is no video on the entire internet showing that till this moment.
Very hardy SUV and reliable !!
I have a request if you are in contact with representatives of a Jeep, then tell them for Russia they made the most reliable jeep!
There is one Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2013 with a 3.6 engine, it has a mileage of almost 800,000 thousand kilometers or 497,096,954 thousand miles !! Not a problem except a broken gearbox !!
Amazing job brother, you literally covered everything. Only thing I do not like about the video, is that I don't own one. I hope you're still enjoying it and many years to come because I know I would!!! I would never accelerate a bad idea, especially being A guy who loves cars, and ALWAYS thinks about resale value. But if you EVER, take it off road, make sure to capture that on camera man!!
Rob York Thanks for the kind words Rob!
Great video man!! The best review of a Jeep!
Appreciated! Thank you!
Beautiful vehicle
the flashlight is still on till this day
Hello. Great review. I was wondering how this vehicle has held up. Any issues? Any concerns? I’m thinking of getting one in 2020. Thoughts?
That air suspension on jeeps isn't the same shit as those from the land rovers? Is it reliable?
This was the most complete review of this car I'd ever seen!
Hello,
Thank you for the video. As it's now 2016, can you provide any updates on the reliability of this SUV, mechanically or otherwise?
Thanks again.

I would’ve ranked this as the greatest auto review of all time if the Jurassic Park Jeep scene had come on during the media demonstration...
the push button can pop out and you can stick the fob or an emergency key in it to start it.
I've had the same car for a month now and I could not be happier. That's for sure.
Yes they did remove it.
@@theblackberrykid is it still working ?
Yes

In 2011 while Chrysler was owned by Diamler Benz they redesigned to grand Cherokee. The 2011 is an amazing SUV. Plus you could buy a lifetime max care warrantee if you wanted
John Stevens Thanks John. I agree, the 2011 Grand Cherokee is a great vehicle. In fact, I will most likely be replacing this one with a 2014 model in the near future. (I might hold off until the 2016 redesign though...)
you can buy that lifetime warranty anytime? even this year on a 2011 model? and how much?
Great review! Do you still own it? If so, how's your opinion on long-term reliability?
Ive had a 2012 since 2011 and its still running great!
@@CaptainBuggy1965 thank you. Helpful feedback
Hey great review man! Exactly what I was looking for. Amazing the review is helping me out 6 years after you posted it. I am going to look at one soon and have some questions:
How is it holding up? What's the current mileage, large mechanical replacements needed, and overall build quality lasting.
How well do the ventilated seats work? I have wanted them for over 4 years now. Do they pump out good flow, or is it stale air and weak?
Those are all the questions I have right now, Thank again!

Regards,
Apex Reviews
@@ApexReviewsOfficial Thank you for the long review! I am a detailed person and appreciate it. I am looking at one listed for 10K but I won't spend that much on it. Very good to know of how you prefer the 2011 more in some ways. Look forward to seeing your future videos

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2012, any one can suggest me how I can use apple car play
great review! i appreciate the detail!
Thank you! I'm happy you liked it. I felt kind of bad that the video turned out to be 30 minutes.
I am looking for a used JEEP that is in good condition inside and out with up to date maintenance.
nice vid bro...love it
The jeep sounds amazing!
Thank you for posting this video I had just bought this vehicle & no manuals whatsoever because it is used. Very helpful indeed.
Okay dumb question LOL is there a button for the mirrors if so where is it? Thanks in advanced.
Hi all, Does anyone know if Alpine Sound System came only in summit package or Overland include it too? Thanks!
Got the same model year and same everything! Not exactly sure if the quadra lift would last long tho
Do u think it would be a great buy in 2020 ?
Awesome bro i have the same overland summit 2012
THX FOR THE INFO; NICE REVIEW; ALSO, WAS WONDERING IF THE 2011 STILL HAD A FRONT LOCKER ?
I will have one like this as my next car. But it will probably be a diesel tho since i live i norway. Great video
Outstanding video. Great job.
+ubersedan Thank you! The feedback is appreciated!
My main concern is the gas mileage... we live in Houston, so alot of stop & go.
I am thinking of buying one with 88k miles thoughts>? 2012 v8
since all gas stations now have 85 gas how does ur vehicle doing also how much do u spend on full gas tank and size of tank and when u are full how many miles per empty u get
I have the same 2011 Jeep GC Overland , mine lowers to the ground for easy exit/ entry mode each evening.

+Vicky Merry Thanks for the compliment Vicky! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Because of this video it showed me all the options clearly and now I own a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with 33000 mi. Not summit as I did not need all the extras. I love it. Thanks again for a great video.
+Vicky Merry I'm glad I was able to make your decision a little easier Vicky. Welcome to the family!
Fantastic review. What’s the difference between the regular summit and the overland summit? Seem the same
J B, a breakdown of the differences for the 2011 Overland Summit is outlined on the link below.
www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_overland_summit.htm
I love it but I have overheating problem with it
do you think this would be a good first car for a senior in high school going into their freshmen year of college?
Love jeep
Nice review. What has been your average fuel economy? Did you ever get that flashlight seated properly?
My average is around 13-14mpg. I drive in the city quite a bit and when I am on the expressway I'm not exactly what you would consider a slow driver so that goes into the average total. I did get that flashlight seated properly after the review!
nice video
Does the headlamp on the inner side of the high/dim beam light and parking lights turn on?
Great Video! Thank you! Where is the battery? I didn't notice one under the hood.
Thanks Ron, greatly appreciated. The battery is located under the passenger side seat. There is a carpeted cover over the battery.
Hazards,
I think I have the GC Summit edition but the upholstery Summit logo and the exterior Summit portion of the Overland badge is missing.
Take care!
I have never got 15 city or 22 MPG LOL But I love mine
sold on this! recently moved to the countryside of Australia, requires a beefy vehicle with a beefy motor and some damn luxury, seems like this has it all at a great price.
We would LOVE to have that engine, so if you can source that in Australia I would definitely go that route. This 5.7L Hemi gets about 18-19 MPG on the expressway at 73-75 mph.
How much gas miles do you get in the city
I found the exact same car that you have with zero miles on it and it's 15,000$ cheaper than the 2014.
Do you think it's worth it?
I've had quite a few people tell me that as well. I don't dislike the 2014 styling but I surely don't like it enough to warrant a upgrade.
I have the V6 and avg 19.
Hey do you still own this vehicle and have you had any issues with it since posting this video? I’m asking because I’m interested in buying one
