I changed out a 42-year-old package AC unit on a mobile home last year. That was my record.

Nice find on them old GE units the Sherman tanks of a/c units. Lots of white roofs to give the glare. I will never forget my first experience with a white roof. It was middle of August on a Dairy Queen brand new roof all I could see for a couple of days was everything was in black and white I couldn’t see color and it felt like I had sand in my eyes. Then everything returned to normal.

Oh man to this day if I forget my sunglasses when I climb to a white rooftop I really wish I hadn't!

I’ve seen a lot of funky curb adapters around here mainly on those new Rheem/Ruud units that look just like Carriers

That has to be from pre-1982. After 1982, they became Trane. I had a customer with a 15 ton trane gas package unit that I replaced one of the compressors in that was from 1985. Was still working when it closed down in 2018 and they turned the space into an IHOP and tore everything off the roof and started over. The compressor I replaced was still working, but it was so worn out, head pressure was like 170 on a hot day, and running over 90 psi on low side (R22 of course). New compressor pressures jumped up to 210, and down to 68 psi low side since the closest 3 phase scroll I could find was slightly higher capacity than the old one. I replaced the condenser motors and fan blades and the filter driers over the years, but the blower motor etc was all still original. Unbelievable that the heat exchanger wasn't rotted out on it.

Yeah i forget exactly when they became trane. I remember some units being the same design that were GE when they started using the TRANE logo. I think that old UA Theater was one.
So I guess these are at LEAST 35 years old.

I found this one place near me still in operation that had about a dozen of those 80s-90s green Carriers with the 2 45 degree fans and not one had been replaced

I think I'm going to start hitting up more Bowling alleys. Make a theme of it and/or add it to my How Ghetto series 👍

I’ve also noticed that Bowling alleys in general usually have some interesting units. Same with movie theaters

Ha ha ha At Macayo’s I was on that roof to pump down two remote units on that cold zone rack, they replaced their line in the kitchen. I laughed when I saw that condenser like that. 🤦‍♂️

A contractor was replacing their old cooks line and they wanted just a pump down because they are abandoning the old equipment and I could see why. It was a mess

That bowling alley is a bad ass find. My local one had two or three large RTU’s. At some point in the 2000’s they replaced them with I just counted 13 small rtu’s.
Would be cool to film those old GE’s on a 100* day

Another bowling alley that had a bunch of old G.E. units was Glen Fair Lanes, also in Glendale. I worked on them in the later 2000's.
But when i sent the drone up there when I first got it I saw they replaced most of them.

Those GE package units towards the front sort of remind me of the Scottsdale rooftop you were working on that had the GEs with reversed ducts causing issues for the newer units that replaced them

They are one of the larger companies from what I understand.
Like most ductless, I see some run 10 years straight with nothing but filter washings and then you find some that just fry boards within months.
Ductless, like VRF, don't take too kindly to any debris etc. No filter driers in them. Just a few strainers that catch larger objects. So they need clean welding (if there is any welding done) and a good evac.
