- Skullz reacts to Die Eier von Satan & Pushit by Tool
Lyrical dissection.
Tool is an American rock band from Los Angeles. Formed in 1990... due to Tool's incorporation of visual arts and very long and complex releases, the band is generally described as a style-transcending act and part of progressive rock, psychedelic rock, and art rock. The relationship between the band and today's music industry is ambivalent, at times marked by censorship, and the band's insistence on privacy....Tool has won four Grammy Awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums topping the charts in several countries.

Maynard introduced this song at a 1998 concert like this.........."Ever have someone love you so much that they tried to kill you? Like they're sucking you into a hole, and you have to kill them to get away?..........me either"
Dude, first rule of Tool: Not everything is about Maynard's mom.
Lol Well to be fair, I only connected the last 2 songs to Maynards mom. Partially because of the comments. I should probably try to keep those influences out of my reactions though đŻ I think the abstract nature of these songs are more interesting than anything đ€
I've listened to this song thousands of times over the years, and the line "I must persuade you another waaaaaaay" still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. This is Maynards greatest vocal moment in my opinion. Seeing them do this live a few months back was incredible. I've always told people, you don't listen to TOOL, you experience them. đ
Definitely the highlight of the song! Even the band behind him in that section is just unbelievable đ„
Well...if we start the "Maynard's greatest vocal moment" thing... there will be NO END to this, mate! đ€Ł
10.000 days in the fire's enough - you're going HOOOO-OOOO-OOOME !!!
@@ralfkohler3671 Easily settled. Itâs right here. đ czcams.com/users/clipUgkxuH2djovXgC5vwqEpAFIcmfW8gqGyvDDy
I totally agree...I think that 3-line section together is such an absolutely beautiful little vocal section/performance: "If when I say I might fade like a sigh if I stay, you minimize my movement anyway... I must persuade you another WAYYY!!!!"
The first line is actually a bit tricky to sing, the cadence and the number of syllables feels odd when you sing it... I've been singing it alone in my house for the past ten minutes. So satisfying.
The buzzing is the flies around the shit. "Push it" on me, "put shit" on me. He plays with the phenetics of these words to just show off. Damn genius.
He does this on a few songs but I'm sure you've noticed...
@@toolsannie6625 Too many to name but not too much to listen to.
I agree Maynard is a genius lyricist. The line "Rest your trigger on my finger.." is another amazing line. It has such a different meaning to rest my finger on your trigger.
I seriously tear up at all your reactions. Seeing someone fall in love with and appreciate something youâve loved for so long is a privilege and thank you for sharing it with us.
So happy you're enjoying them my friend! â€đ€đ„
I can't believe I finally saw this song live this year. Maynard still hits all the notes. Classic! Great reaction.
Yeah man, they played in STL last month. It was a nice surprise.
Yep.I went to Chicago without my wife just to hear this song.
it was so amazing
I can die a happy man because I too saw TOOL play pushit live for the first time, and Iâve seen them 5 times since 2001
Was the highlight for my daughter and I in Detroit.
Yep, the version on Salival is outstanding.
We've been, we've been trying something
A little different this tour
We've been looking at one of our songs
From a different angle, under a different light
So we can hopefully kind of
See it almost for the first time
We'd like to try that for you tonight, is that okay?
We're gonna need your help though
We need your help and your permission
So we need you to find a comfortable space
That's not only comfortable, but vulnerable
And to just shut your eyes and go there
And we'll meet you on the other side
-MJK
In a catalogue of masterpieces, Pushit rises to the top. Definitely one of their most immense and thick, sonic experiences. Its them operating at full range. Seeing this live was otherwordly, that middle section was unbelievably hypnotic. THey're sonic warlocks I tell ya
For me personally this is about an abusive relationship, "the gap" is the relationship the other is forcing on him, "choke this infant before me" the abuser is childish, "who am i to judge or strike you down" i act the same way, "staring down the hole again, hands are on my back again" I'm getting pushed back into the relationship, "it will end no other way" i have to literally hurt you to get out of this relationship. Great reaction brother!
This is actually correct
My favorite song. When I was a teen, it released my anger and it always turned bad days into good days. Something about the way it builds and releases musically allowed me to let go of my emotions.
I find the salival version of this song cathartic if I'm having a bad/anxious day. I find an out the way space, plug headphones in and zone out/nap/flat out pass out + start dreaming. By the close of the song I feel like I've pushed a reset button and I can get on with my day
It's so satisfying watching people fall in love with Tool...confused and a little horrified..and thoroughly entertained
My favorite song of all time. Almost 30 years later and I still scream this song alone in my car and Iâm crying by the end.
Hey. This is the best "Push It' reaction I've ever seen. Take a bow.
I appreciate that! Much love đ€
Like everyone else said, I recommend listening to the Salival version, even if you don't react to it. It's a version they played live, a couple years after the original/album version came out. Highly recommend.
A must!! It's sooo good!
Yes yes and YES
Its a must listen, itâs basically a completely different song
I dont like it.
I don't recommend the salival version, but I don't advise against either...
the fact you included "Die Eier Von Satan" was awesome
it's a great recipe for Turkish Hash Balls
In Jimmy, when he was eleven he left his mother to go live with his father, where he remained through high school. His father was a coach with the school. Maynard wrestled some and ran track. After school he went into the army, imagine that. Oh and in case you didnât know, heâs big into Brazilian jiu-jitsu. You need to watch the âfan incidentâ concert footage. Oh his step dad was a bad dude, get from that what you will. He did a great interview with Marc Maron.
Tool in my favorite band ever in the cosmos.
For abused people that gap is real! The live version gets me every time but I love the studio version! I feel both to my core
Today for the first time...I am thinking of Jonny Depp while listening to this song...
Just going to share a quick story. It was July of 1997. I had this album playing for a couple of monthsâŠ.but there was something about PUSHIT that I kept gravitating toward. I remember driving this day in July and the song, finally landed on me like a wall of bricks. I pulled over and balled my eyes outâŠ.still do occasionally. Like you, myself and Maybe MaynardâŠ.I didnât feel alone. Abuse is heavy and music can bring that trauma to the surface and really exercise it.
Kind of crazy actually. I was just thinking to myself, âwhat would I say to myself beforeâ. Itâs really not even a gap as it is two different people. Feels like Iâm only wearing the face of who I was.
@@darenmiller2218 donât stop trying to find who you want to be! Itâs taken me years to even get halfway but itâs so much better. â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
Even if you donât react to it , you should go listen to the live version of push it, because the original is in your head. How they can take a great song and make it even better, crazy.
I was gonna comment on that same thing đ, yes I agree salival, push it is a must after this

Absolutely, I think the salival version is amazing. Too bad they didn't play it this year in Cle
Yes, definitely listen to the Live Salival version of this song. It's really good.
not better to everyone, not better to me. but yeah, he can give it a try.
I was working in my hotel room last night and I came across your channel. I watched everyone of your Tool reaction videos and they resonated with me. The Salival version may be my favorite song. The music is incredible.
Ooooh, I've been waiting for you to get to this one! Pushit is such an incredible song
This song is so under appreciated
Best song in their catalogue
Not by a true TOOL Fan my friend. ;)
Thanks for sharing. I donât always listen to Tool, but when I need it most their music is a healing/coping tool for me to work through different hardships in my life, no other band encompasses that for me. This song is particularly special to me, as well as The Patient, The Grudge & Reflection.
I always took the flies buzzing at the beginning to both be the flies over the "Shit" that's being pushed, but also the flies buzzing over a rotting corpse that is the slowly rotting corpse of the toxic relationship that he's talking about.
Rest your trigger on my finger... possibly one of the greatest lines written
You're gonna love Lateralus (the album. . . well and the song lol) Thanks as always for letting me enjoy these songs with new eyes!
dude, your excitement is contagious! i absolutely enjoy your reactions.
Appreciate it! I've been loving this!
You've got to listen to their remake of this, it's my face and absolutely amazing!
I think heâs speaking to himself here. he sees these past things calling him in again and heâs saying âdonât tempt me or weâll both be goneâ. This is one of my favorite songs. I feel like all of these past versions of himself get clarity after having his third eye opened; which is why Lateralus is so poignant and speaks on the ways to healing these âgapsâ.
"He integrated his shadow..."
PERFECT ANALYSIS!!!
I have been waiting for you to reach this song - one of my very favorites from Maynard.

Yes Maynards humor, its a recipie for deviled eggs in German. And Maynards mother died when he was 11 He is 'jimmy' and has influenced a lot of his works.
T00l covers Led Zeppelin 'No Quarter' is like magic so good to see more people jump down the "rabbit hole" that is T00L and the entirty of Maynard Janes Keenans work
She didn't die when he was 11. She had an aneurysm that paralyzed her for the next 27 years before she passed. Thus the album "10,000 days." 27 years=10,000 days. Not trying to be a smartass here it's just common knowledge in tool history by now. Go ahead and Google that bad boy if you don't believe me. Right on tho, the No Quarter cover is fantastic.đ€

I'm so excited for this. pushit is wanna my favs
One of my all time favorites.
I'm soooo jealous of you hearing this for the first time đ
I tend to think that âDieâ is about our misperceptions. The context in which we hear it recalls Nazi Germany, but once you have the rest of the information, itâs innocuous. We do the opposite as well, by not recognizing the malevolence in a situation because the context with incomplete information makes us feel at ease with it. Feel like Iâm motormouthing. Great work! Keep it up.
it's a cookie recipe. i think
@@robinpaul7268 it has multiple layers. It sounds like nazi stuff on the surface, but its just cookies, but then you learn its a hashish cookie, but then you realize that shouldn't matter. So I think it's this cool seesaw of highlighting these biases
ZimzallabimzallzimâŠ..
German perspective here: as someone who is very analytical and crticical of our history - to ANY German, this would rather sound like a recipe (which eventually turns out to be one for edibles), than something alluding to the 3. Reich. There are really no obvious innuendos or double entendres there.
On a linguistic note: yes, as a German, you notice a slight accent, but it is very minimal.
@@ralfkohler3671 I think perhaps your missing the juxtaposition of the ominous mass production of Nationalism and the frivolity of a hash cookie recipe. It's a drug to the people who feel like they're part of something. Regardless of the consequences they feel good about being a part of something. Or, I'm reading to much into it /shrug.
The salival live album is definitely worth the listen. I really enjoy your reactions to tool albums. I've been a fan for 20 years and it's awesome to see a 1st impression and you a damn good job expressing how the music effects you. Get ready for lateralus... đ€Ż

Oh man I couldnât Wait for you to get to this one!
I remember when I 1st bought this album in 1996. I was already a big fan but this album just blew my mind. Most of my friends were kinda casual listeners so they mostly liked Stinkfist, Anima, and 46 & 2. I loved those songs too, but Pushit, Eulogy, Jimmy, and Third Eye were "my jams". Great song, I love watching your Tool reactions.
Listening to this since 1997 would blast this on my Sony Walkman before football games. Fire.
I was wondering where you were brother ,. Pushit is one of my favs. ,. Keep my feet on the ground

I appreciate that đŻđ I always look forward to Tool Tuesdays!
Love your lyrical analysis! I always thought of it being about an ex...but you made me think it could be about his parents. My simple take on this song is that everyone has a breaking point. We are all patient to a degree and if we are pushed to the point where we snap...then the beast is unleashed and we claw those throats to silence our instigators.
Hell yes! One of their best!
Dier von satan is a chocolate chip cookie recipe yelled at you in German. Donât ask me the meaning of it because I donât have any idea eitherâŠ
Pushit is my favorite TOOL song. It references an abusive relationship. And the cycle of domestic violence. The walking on eggshells phase and explosion phase followed by the honeymoon phase where your abuser tried to make you stay. The music even mimics that. Deep stuff.
There are no chocolate chips in that recipe. It's also not cookies but flour balls (eier von satan = satan's balls, where germans use "eggs" to refer to male genitalia rather than english speakers using "balls")
NO BUTTER
Oh. I stand corrected. Like I said I donât understand it
The climax of DVS is when Mjk screams no butter in german
@@shortbus6560 no butter? Und keine Eier? No eggs.
Butter in german is butter (the u pronounced slightly different)
Where do you folks get those translations from?
I've watched so many other You Tubers try to break down Tool lyrics, and you my friend are at the top of that list. Your making me look at these albums with a whole different lens, I don't know if it's correct but it sounds legit lol, either way you know your shit. Good jobđ

Keep in mind, Maynard often tells stories like he is making a movie etc. It doesnât necessarily have to be something he has actually been through. Like with PRISON SEX, he described the cycle of the abused sometimes becoming the abuser, but he never once mentions in his AMAZING book about his WHOLE life (U MUST READ IT) that he has been abused in any way. He is just such an amazing story teller that people are left to assume that he has lived through whatever he writes about. Love your MAYNARD reactions by the way. I am here for your whole journey. I fell in love for this man when Undertow first came out. I was lucky enough to see him in some fairly small clubs on the Undertow tour. Love seeing you get excited the way I did when I first heard his voice and read his lyrics.
They played in STL back in March. I saw them twice on this album tour and they never played it. It was the best surprise of that show.

The cycles of generational abuse, and how we can learn to fall in love with our pain. It takes everything to change that cycle; the sobering acknowledgment of our faults, and the emotional fuel that must be engaged with to find metamorphosis. The last refrain I feel is aimed inward. Remember the love you have cultivated for yourself, even as the pain of expression (the voice) is torn apart from the effort. THIS is what it takes to heal; a burning of the ships. There is no other way.

this is so fun!! that section in Pushit when you feel like your getting slammed around in a plane crash, then it just breaks down into the weightlessness, you looked straight at us, in the eye, and I think I know what's goin on in there :) thought we lost you for a second then in spacedoutlandia.... that was the deepest I have seen you go inside yourself during a Tool song.

Can't even remember what I was thinking in those moments. I was just immersed đ Wild ride to say the least đ„
Just discovered your channel and your reactions to this song and to H. really made me want to share.
Even though I love Tool since the 90's, a couple of years ago I somehow rediscovered Pushit and it resonated with me in a different way. Back then I was in a long and abusive relationship with a person who has BPD (borderline personality disorder) and this song just so perfectly encapsulated what that relationship was like. "Rest your trigger on my finger" is such a powerful statement about someone who is uncontrollably and inexplicably violent to people they love. The ending of the song has exceptional significence to me, because it somewhat inspired and pushed me into ending that relationship. Survival mode kicked in because if I didn't back out from it, the violence would just escalate indefinitely, all under the guise of "love".
Amazing how we all can interpret songs differently.
This song is great and tool fans arent lying when they say the salival version is even better. Its like they saw its further potential and captured it. All 4 members refined their parts to create a masterpiece.
I think the studio is unbeatable. The song needs the dynamics which the salival version is missing.
@@jensclarberg6419 we must be hearing differently. To me the salival version is more dynamic, subtle, vivid and powerful, but its like maynard advised: it requires a more vulnerable state from the listener.
So many subtle flourishes that the different instruments play off of that werent in the original song.
